Welcome! A Quality Experience! Welcome to the seventh annual London Creativity and Wellbeing festival of culture and health curated by London Arts in Health Forum. This year we feature over 350 events and our focus is on quality. We are looking at the internal qualities that we feel when we take part in culture; exploring the ways in which artists and organisations can improve the quality of their work; and, most of all, asking how arts and culture can contribute to everyone’s quality of life - especially people whose lives are affected by ill health. This festival reveals the hundreds of artists and organisations working to give people the chance to benefit from the wellbeing impact of culture. At the core of the festival we have curated a series of events focusing on different artforms. On Monday we look at music, Tuesday art and museums, Wednesday theatre and Thursday dance before on Friday we focus on poetry. Thanks to funding from Arts Council England and the support of all our partner organisations, all of our events cost £5 or less. They offer a great introduction to what happens when you bring together arts and culture with health. We are delighted that this year, the Institute of Psychiatry Psychology & Neuroscience at King’s College London has co-ordinated The Arts in Mind series which runs through the festival with events exploring the cutting edge of innovative research in creativity and health. There are also loads of events from exhibitions, performances and debates as well as lots of opportunities to have a go at different creative activities and to learn how it might impact on your own health and wellbeing. As well as the events listed in this brochure there are even more which can be found on the website at www.creativityandwellbeing.org.uk and we will be highlighting lots more on Twitter (@LahfArtsHealth) and on Facebook. For all events please check times and details online. Since we are focusing on quality this year, we are commissioning artists, thinkers and clinicians to share with us their thoughts on the future of culture and wellbeing; specifically how to get the best out of culture for our health and wellbeing. During the week and afterwards we will be sharing more about this on Twitter. We believe in the power of creativity to change people’s lives for the better - and we want more opportunities for everyone to experience the life-enhancing benefits of the arts and culture. Join us this week in a whirlwind of Creativity and Wellbeing!

2018 is the 70th anniversary of the NHS and we are teaming up with creative campaigners 64 Million Artists to write and share Haikus about what wellbeing, health and the NHS means to us. We will be encouraging people to create their own poems all week and then share them via #HealthHaiku on Friday 8 June. A Haiku is a form of Japanese poetry. The poems are short - just three lines long. The first line has 5 syllables, the second 7 and the final line 5 syllables again. They are simple and don’t need to rhyme. Through #HealthHaiku we want to encourage people to use poetry as a fun way to express their creativity and share with others. We will be celebrating the NHS and creativity and wellbeing by sharing haikus. The event will result in a policy paper exploring QI and the role of the arts in the future. Confirmed speakers include: • •
Auzewell Chitewe, Senior Improvement Advisor, East London NHS Foundation Trust Dr Daisy Fancourt, Wellcome Research Fellow, University College London
A quality future for arts in health LAHF is commissioning a series of blogs and think pieces to explore the future of creativity and wellbeing. These sessions offer a no-pressure opportunity to take part in a shared reading session and experience the wellbeing benefits for yourself! A Shared Reading group is a time to relax, make new friends and share stories with others. These groups are unique because the group reads the literature aloud, creating space for people to make connections with ourselves and with others. In March 2018, London Arts in Health Forum helped to launch a new organisation which will provide support and guidance to everyone interested in the different ways that culture can connect to health and wellbeing. The Culture, Health and Wellbeing Alliance is a free membership organisation which will advocate for the importance of cultural engagement for the health and wellbeing of everyone in society. It will provide monthly bulletins on policy and developments in the field, access to resources and research, and will deliver training, conferences and events. Artists, museums, galleries and cultural organisations right across England contribute to health and wellbeing in different ways, often with partners in the health, local government and voluntary and community sectors. The new Alliance will coordinate these efforts across sectors and cultivate effective and ambitious work, leading to far more people benefitting from the impact of high-quality cultural experiences. The Culture, Health and Wellbeing Alliance is an Arts Council England Sector Support Organisation which will be delivered by Arts & Health South West. This new Alliance brings together the National Alliance for Arts, Health and Wellbeing and the National Alliance for Museums, Health and Wellbeing and involves over 50 leading organisations. A key way that London Arts in Health Forum will support the new Alliance is in developing Creativity and Wellbeing. From 2019, this festival will become a national celebration with events across England and beyond. To find out more about this and about the new Alliance, visit: www.culturehealthandwellbeing.org.uk
