Welcome! It is almost hard to believe that this is the fifth Creativity and Wellbeing Week. It is a unique, annual celebration of the different ways that creativity and engagement with the arts can improve health and wellbeing. While it began in London, the Week has grown into a national event with different events happening right across the UK. There are over 200 events happening this week across the country and all of them can be found at www.creativityandwellbeing.org.uk In the words of the World Health Organisation, health is “a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. Creativity helps us feel well, feel in control of our lives and of the world around us and yet lots of people don’t get the chance to be creative - because they are in hospital, find it difficult to get out of the house or because they simply don’t think it is for them. This week is a celebration of creativity and the many different ways it can change our health, our wellbeing and our lives. This is a grassroots festival celebrating the hundreds of small organisations and individual artists who are helping people be creative all the time and using that creativity to help people feel well. This week is a chance to see and hear, walk and talk and sample some of this work. So get stuck in and enjoy!

About us
Creativity and Wellbeing has been organised by London Arts in Health Forum (LAHF). LAHF is a charity dedicated to creating more opportunities for the arts to reach everyone in society – regardless of their health or personal circumstances. We believe that participating in the arts and exploring creativity makes a big difference to the health and wellbeing of individuals and of society as a whole. As well as Creativity and Wellbeing, LAHF produces a fortnightly newsletter with information about arts and health and we provide advice and support to anyone looking to develop arts activity connected to health and wellbeing. We also run events and deliver projects designed to demonstrate the connection between health and creativity. Along with colleagues from around the country, LAHF has established the National Alliance for Arts, Health and Wellbeing which campaigns to increase access to the arts to improve people’s health and their lives. Lots more information about all of this can be found at www.lahf.org.uk

Paintings in Hospitals : Showcase, 2013. Photographed at the Menier Gallery by Mickey Lee
Connect and Connect Strengthening networks, making connections, developing new ways of working together. LAHF and Paintings in Hospitals are joining forces to host two networking events - one in person and one online. Interest in the connections between the arts and health and wellbeing is growing all the time. More and more people are coming to explore the ways in which creativity can support and encourage our own health and the health of our communities. LAHF began as a network of artists and practitioners working to link together arts and health, whilst Paintings in Hospitals has a proud history of delivering pioneering arts in health projects and collaborations. This summer we are maintaining these traditions by offering people the chance to simply meet others with an interest in this area with no agenda, no preconceptions - just a chance to talk and see what happens!
Connect 16 June at 6pm we will be gathering at the Menier Gallery for an evening of nibbles and networking amidst a broad selection of printed, painted, drawn, sculptural, textile and digital artworks from the Paintings in Hospitals collection.
Connect 17 June at 2pm we will be hosting a Twitter Chat to bring together a host of artists, practitioners and thinkers in the field of arts in health to answer questions, to make connections and to offer new ways of thinking about creativity and wellbeing. The Thursday Connect: in person is ticketed - and the Friday Connect: online will use the hashtag #ConnectArtsHealth So whether you are in London or further afield you can get involved! www.lahf.org.uk/weekevents
