Farmers Market moving to Midland Road? BY STEVE DREYER The city is proposing that the weekly Poway Farmers Market be relocated from an Old Poway Park parking lot to a closed-off portion of Midland Road. Roadblocks would be set up each Saturday at Edgemoor Street and Adrian Street and traffic would be rerouted along Brighton Avenue, according to the report prepared for the Tuesday, July 16 City Council meeting. Temple Street would remain open. Market hours, currently 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., would be expanded to a 1 p.m. closing. The road would be closed between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. The changes would require the City Coun-
cil to approve a temporary use permit. If approved, the market would move sometime this fall. The Poway Farmers Market was started in 1993 and is held in the parking lot on the southwest corner of Midland Road and Temple Street. According to the staff report, market attendance has increased 17 percent over the past two years (no exact figures were provided) and there is a waiting list of vendors desiring to participate. Moving the event to the closed-off street would provide space for up to 29 additional vendors and a net increase of 26 public parking spaces, the report says. More vendors would result in an extra 25 percent in market See MARKET, Page A8

Next month, Caltrans will be closing the I-805 in both directions, between State Route 54 and State Route 905 from 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18 through 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 19 in order to demolish and remove the East Palomar Street bridge over the freeway to make room for a direct access ramp. “We urge motorists to steer clear of freeways,” said Laurie Berman, district director of Caltrans. “We are asking motorists See LANES, Page A18
Palomar Health to keep Villa Pomerado open BY ELIZABETH MARIE HIMCHAK Villa Pomerado, a 129-bed skilled nursing center on the Pomerado Hospital grounds in Poway, will remain open despite Palomar Health closing its similar facility in Escondido. Palomar Continuing Care Center, a 96-bed skilled nursing facility, stopped accepting new admissions or transfers on July 1. Remaining patients need to transfer by October, officials said. “Palomar Health’s first priority is the safety and comfort of the patients cared for at PCCC and their families,” said Steve Gold, chief officer of Palomar Health’s post-acute care services. “A relocation plan has been created to facilitate the safe and See VILLA, Page A18

RB man invents FakeTV to fool burglars BY ELIZABETH MARIE HIMCHAK A Rancho Bernardo man has created a burglar deterrent to be used in homes when residents are on vacation or just spending the evening out. FakeTV is small device that uses LED lights to give the appearance someone is watching a television. The lights are programmed to mimic the alternating colors and vibrancy common in television shows, news programs and commercials. For now, its two models are only available at www.FakeTV.com. It is $29.95 for a device simulating a 27-inch television and $39.95 for one simulating a 40inch television. It runs on a timer programmed to turn on at dusk and run for four or seven hours. Blaine C. Readler, an engineer and award-winning novelist, said he came up with the idea around 2008. “I was stepping out for dinner and as my routine, was leaving the TV on to indicate somebody was home,” Readler said. “I turned to see if there was a visible signal flickering on the blinds and it came to me that you do not see the TV, just the light shining on the blinds.”
Blaine Readler holding the FakeTV. So he experimented with LEDs to see if he could re-create the look without a steady blink or flicker since that pattern would not realistically mimic a television program. Having worked with LEDs for telephones, cars and radios in fighter jets, Readler said he had “fun” devising the correct pattern, which required him to watch many hours of television. “I was simulating scene changes, camera fade effects ... and the natural dynamic effects of a TV program or video,” he said. The theory was that a device that mimics a television would be more en-

ergy efficient and save the use life of his flat screen television. “When you walk up (to a television) you can feel the heat energy ... this uses essentially none,” he said. It also provides more realism than lights set on timers, he said, since burglars can often become familiar with a light’s programmed schedule. Readler was obtaining the FakeTV patent in 2010 when he first spoke with Minnesota-based Rein Teder, president of Hydreon Corporation. Teder was interested manufacturing another of Readler’s inventions when the latter mentioned his latest project. Readler said Teder immediately saw more potential in FakeTV than the other burglardeterrent and they started working together on ways to perfect FakeTV. Despite working together for the past couple of years, the duo met in person for the first time a couple of weeks ago, Readler said. The distant process worked to their benefit, he said, calling the partnership via email and phone calls “the ultimate in efficiency. It’s a great way to do engineering. It cuts out the trivial conversation.” See INVENTION, Page A18

Barrel Room hosting benefit for vets BY ELIZABETH MARIE HIMCHAK You can help deployed military personnel and their families by eating a barbecue meal this weekend. The inaugural Splash for Cash will be 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 14 at The Barrel Room, 16765 Bernardo Center Drive, Suite O-1 in Rancho Bernardo. Tickets are $30 for those 13 and older, which includes an all-you-can-eat meal plus one drink tickets. Attendees 12 and younger will be admitted for free. Purchase tickets at the event or in advance at http://splashforcash.bpt. me or by calling 858-673-7512. In addition to food, there will be an opportunity to purchase balls for the dunk tank — $2 for one throw or $5 for four — and win opportunity drawing prizes for gift cards and other donated items.
Proceeds will go to Operation Help a Hero, a nonprofit organization that supports military personnel and their families at MCAS Miramar, Camp Pendleton and Twentynine Palms. According to its website, “Our programs support military units and families as they prepare for separation, while they endure the challenges of deployment and as they transition back to the United States. Our projects uplift our military heroes and send a clear message of support to their entire family. Operation Help a Hero connects communities with service members and provides real opportunities to make a difference in the lives of those who serve our country.” Its morale-boosting activities for military families include holiday parties, baby showers, mid-way parties to celebrate a deployment’s half-way mark, spring carnivals for children, banner parties to prepare for return festivities, a Christmas gift program
for families in need and Wounded Warriors, pen pal and care package support plus aid to families in crisis. It also runs Operation Rack Pack — a program to welcome home single Marines who have no one waiting for them, and Operation Bedtime Story — where personnel can record themselves reading a story to their kids and have it delivered during deployment. For more details, go to www. operationhelpahero.com. Lauren Churchill, The Barrel Room’s manager and event coordinator, said she thought of the fundraiser because her father, brother and husband have served in the military and she is familiar with Operation Help a Hero. While the restaurant has participated in past fundraisers, this is the first time it is sponsoring one of its own, she said. If successful, it is likely to become an annual event, Churchill added.
Girl Scout earns Gold Award for assisting disabled teens BY ELIZABETH MARIE HIMCHAK
By organizing a dance for teenagers with disabilities, a local Girl Scout has earned her organization’s highest honor. Ambassador Girl Scout Mahli Hayes’ Gold Award service project — holding a countywide Best Buddies semi-formal dance — was inspired by her involvement with Rancho Bernardo High’s Best Buddies program. It pairs students with disabilities and those without to form friendships, increase understanding and make the high school experience more enjoyable for all. “I have a heart for kids with disabilities and I feel like they should be treated the same as general ed students,” Hayes said. “They deserve a dance of their own.” She added, “(I) had to re-
MAHLI HAYES ally connect with the community and other Best Buddies clubs,” explaining that when she started the project she was unaware of the financial cost to put on a dance. The daughter of Poway residents Doug and Roxanne Hayes graduated from Rancho Bernardo High in 2012. See GOLD Page A8

SDN Chamber launching buy-local effort BY ELIZABETH MARIE HIMCHAK
FAMILY HAS OLD PATRIOTIC ROOTS — Four generations of the LaGrone family marched in Rancho Bernardo’s Spirit of the Fourth parade with the Daughters of the American Revolution Rincon del Diablo Chapter. Rancho Bernardo resident Marge LaGrone, second from right, was joined in the parade by family members from Chandler, Ariz., from left, great-granddaughter Haley Cole, granddaughter Casey Whyte Cole and daughter Susan LaGrone Whyte. They had five ancestors serve in the American Revolution — three in Maine from Marge LaGrone’s paternal family and two in New Hampshire from her maternal family. Her family’s history in what is now the United States started with ancestors who came over on the Mayflower and the family has been in DAR for generations, she said.
San Diego North Chamber of Commerce is launching a campaign later this month that encourages buying goods and contracting services from locals. The “Think Local First” campaign will debut on July 26, with the goal of making chamber members and others aware of how doing business locally benefits the community. “This is not a revenue project (for us),” said SDNCC President and CEO Debra Rosen. “The chamber is looking out for local businesses and keeping money in the region to make the community vibrant.” Part of that is encouraging residents to make purchases within their community so their community receives the sales tax revenue instead of purchasing in another community or online. Rosen said, for example, that as a Poway resident she shops at the Costco in Poway instead of Carmel Mountain Ranch — part of the City of San Diego — so the City of Poway can benefit and use the sales tax money generated by her purchases to repair roads and provide services in Poway. It can be easier for people in Poway or Escondido, for example, to see the direct benefits of their sales taxes funding street repairs and law enforcement than those living in Rancho Bernardo, whose
sales tax generated in RB or other City of San Diego neighborhoods goes to the city’s general fund that can be spent anywhere in the city. But Rosen said they still benefit, even though the money cannot be earmarked for their particular community, because that income provides repairs and services within their neighborhoods. San Diego North’s campaign mentions studies that show for every $100 spent at a locally owned business, $45 to $68 goes back into the community and its tax base. For every $100 spent at a chain store, $14 goes back to the community. In addition, locally owned businesses statistically contribute more to nonprofits than businesses not locally owned. It is not just residents who will learn through the campaign how their purchases help their particular cities, but businesses, school districts and government entities realizing the importance of contracting services and making purchases through others within their community or region to also strengthen employment. For example, Rosen expressed dismay at the City of San Diego’s decision to hire a Chicago-based company to handle moving books and other materials from the old to the new Central Library downtown, especially since its workers are from out-of-state and staying in hotels during the job. She said

that contract could have gone to a local company whose employees live here too. “It is so wrong,” Rosen said. San Diego North will also be working with other chambers in the region, starting with those in North County, so the educational message can be disseminated to a wider audience, she said. While this is a new campaign for San Diego North Chamber of Commerce, the Poway Chamber of Commerce and City of Poway first launched its multiphased “Poway Your First Choice” program in 2007. According to its website, those who live or work in Poway are encouraged to shop and dine locally to not only help the city provide public services, but strengthen Poway-based businesses that are encouraged to hire Poway residents, whose wages are often also spent locally. Poway officials said doing business within one’s community is also good for the environment since it reduces sprawl, automobile use, habitat loss plus air and water pollution. Merchants enrolled in the program give discounts to locals who obtain the program’s free card. According to the “Poway Your First Choice” website, sales tax revenue accounts for 34.5 percent of the City of Poway’s general fund, which pays for roadways, parks and recreation, fire protection, law enforcement and emergency medical response.

Taking several breaks from flying, Vaughn managed the design of training programs for the B-52, FB-11, KC/EC-135, B-1 and B-2 aircrafts. In 1983, Vaughn met his lovely wife, 2nd Lt Mary Prodzinski, in Fort Worth, TX, and they were married on November 23, 1983. At his retirement from the USAF as a Lt Colonel in 1987, they moved to Poway, CA. Vaughn enjoyed his
retirement, playing golf and serving his Lord and Saviour as a ministry leader at the Olive Branch Christian Fellowship Church in Poway, CA. Friends remember Vaughn for his constant smile, Stetson hats and friendliness to others. Vaughn is survived by his wife of 29 years, Mary Butterbrodt of Poway, CA; son, Beau Butterbrodt of Cedar Rapids, IA; grandson, Cole Butterbrodt of Cedar Rapids, IA; brother, Lynn (Carol) Butterbrodt of Mt Pleasant, IA; and nephew, Gage (Katherine) Butterbrodt of Lafayette, IN. He was preceded in death by his precious daughter, Becky Sue Butterbrodt, and his beloved parents, Harlan and Lucille Butterbrodt. A celebration of life is scheduled for Saturday, July 20, 2013, at 1pm at The Cove at the Church at Rancho Bernardo. In the fall, a family memorial will be held at the Butterbrodt family farm at Tipton, IA, where Vaughn’s ashes will be cast on the farm’s fertile soil. If you wish, you may make donations to the Fisher House Foundation at: www. fisherhouse.org. Fisher House provides temporary family housing while their military loved ones are being treated at military
hospitals. Please sign the guest book online at www.legacy.com/ obituaries/pomeradonews.

HELPING BATTERED WOMEN, CHILDREN
New president for Poway Soroptimists BY EMILY SORENSEN Soroptimist International of Poway has named their new president. As of July 1, Tanya Lewis became president of the club, taking over from now-former president April Mitchell. Lewis, who works as a Realtor with Keller-Williams, has been with the Poway Soroptimists for three years and lives in Carmel Mountain Ranch. “So, I’m still learning quite a bit,” said Lewis, who started as corresponding secretar y in the club. As president, Lewis will preside over meetings and represent to the community the spirit and character of Soroptimist Inter national of Poway. “I need to be alert to the changing needs in our community,” said Lewis. Lewis will also continue TANYA LEWIS to spread the club’s main focus of helping battered women and children through their Transitional Housing program. “Our main objective is to improve the lives of women and girls, through programs that uplift them,” said Lewis. This program moves women and children from dependency and abuse to a safe, self-sustaining lifestyle within 18 months. Since 1996, the Poway and Rancho Bernardo clubs have helped over 25 mothers and 60 children. The Poway Soroptimists, teaming up with the Soroptimist International of Rancho Bernardo, raised over $18,000 at their last fundraiser, a high tea at the Rancho Bernardo Inn. The money raised goes to support the Transitional Housing program, as well as to give recognition to girls and women
who have been leaders in their community. Soroptimist International of Poway also donates money to a school in Tijuana. Currently, members of Soroptimist International of Poway are gearing up for their Wellness Madness event, which will be a part of the Poway Days celebration in September. The event was held last year in the Walmart parking lot, and included health care workers, vendors and lots of information on how to get and stay healthy. “It’s still in the planning stages right now,” said Lewis of this year’s Wellness Madness. Soroptimist International of Poway meets 7:20 - 8:30 a.m. the first and third Wednesday of each month at Cafe Merlot, in the Bernardo Winery at 13330 Paseo Del Verano Norte. For information, visit their website at www.sipoway.org.

revenues to the general fund, from $45,000 this past fiscal year to $61,000 for the year that started on July 1. The repor t says having the market on the street is “in keeping with the vision for the Old Poway Park area” and doing so would “create a synergy and interest to prompt market attendees to explore the amenities of Old Poway Park and the adjacent commercial shops in the Old Poway Village center.” (Full disclosure: The News Chieftain office is located in the Old Poway Village center. The office is closed on Saturdays.) The staff report notes that over the past three years Midland Road has been “successfully closed” on Saturday for community events such as the Train Song Festival and Christmas in the Park.
Responsibility for closing and reopening the road will fall on the market management, with city staff assistance during the first 30 days. The city held two neighborhood meetings on the issue, according to the report. Eight people attended the May 30 meeting while no one showed up for the June 24 meeting. In response to issues raised at the first meeting, city staffers said that while they did not have Saturday traffic counts on Midland Road, “it is anticipated the traffic would be less than that generated on weekdays, ...for which the city has records.” The city engineer also noted that Brighton Avenue was designed and improved to be “more than adequate” to handle the rerouted traffic.

The swamp is coming to PowPAC, Poway’s Community Theatre, with its new show “The Sugar Bean Sisters,” opening Friday, July 19 and running through Sunday, Aug. 18 at the theater, 13250 Poway Road. “It’s a Southern Gothic comedy, with dark humor,” said director Rob Conway. “The Sugar Bean Sisters,” written by Nathan Sanders, is the first in an unfinished trilogy about the fictional town of Sugar Bean, Florida, which is located in a swamp near Disney World. The play tells the story of Willie Mae Nettles and Faye Clementine Nettles, two spinster sisters who each have a dream — Willie Mae of finding a good Mormon husband so she can get into the Celestial Kingdom, and Faye Clementine of escaping the swamp — via the alien spaceship she swears she saw 20 years ago, and that she claims is coming back soon for her. The catch is, Faye Clementine has to kill her sister in order for the aliens to return. Despite the dark themes, Conway says the show as “side-splitting humor, but also really poignant moments.” “The story is about dreams, and how everybody has their own dreams,” said Conway. “The audience relates to a lot of moments, and each of the characters in some way.” The play stars PowPAC veterans Kaly McK-
enna as Willie Mae Nettles, Holly Stephenson as Faye Clementine Nettles, and Raylene J. Wall as The Reptile Woman, and introduces newcomers Susan Stratton as Miss Vedellia Sparks and Nick Young as The Bishop Crumley. Staging a swamp in the PowPAC theater has been a challenge, said Conway, but one he feels they’ve met. “[The staging] is a little bigger than we could do on PowPAC’s small stage,” said Conway, “but we did a good job bringing in the swamp.” The set features a small interior set for the Nettles’ home, and then their swampy yard, including an outhouse. The set will include sugar cane planted around the yard, and Christmas lights, because one of the sisters loves Christmas and celebrates it yearround. “[The set is] tight and cozy, but it has everything the story needs,” said Conway. Because of the dark themes, Conway said this play isn’t recommended for children under 13. Show times are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday evenings and 2 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $18 general admission and $15 for students, seniors and active duty military. There is a $2 surcharge for opening night, which includes a post-performance reception with the cast. For tickets and more information, call the PowPAC box office at 858-679-8085 or visit www.powpac.org.

Improving disaster resiliency in San Diego By Rep. Scott Peters
I
n October 2003, the Cedar Fire, the second largest wildfire in California histor y, devastated the northern communities of the cities of San Diego and Poway. Our community faced similar damage again in October 2007, during the Witch Creek Fire. As a San Diego City Councilmember at the time, I remember firsthand the destructive impact of these fires on people’s lives. Together, these fires destroyed hundreds of homes, personal belongings and memories, and recovery costs were in the billions of dollars. In my new capacity representing San Diego in Congress, I am aggressively pushing for the adoption of better preparedness measures. We can’t prevent natural disasters, but we can do more to lessen the costs to human life and property. Over the last two years the federal government has spent more than $136 billion on relief for hurricanes, tornadoes, droughts, wildfires, and other extreme weather events. It’s time that the government stops working in a reactive way to natural disasters and instead gets to work efficiently helping states and localities find best practices to prepare, plan for, and more quickly recover from these events. We know that for every dollar spent now on disaster preparedness and resiliency, we can avoid at least $4 in future losses. I recently introduced the Strengthening the Resiliency of Our Nation on the Ground (STRONG) Act with Rep. Pete King (R-NY) and Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-FL). This bipartisan legislation creates a unified strategic vision for community resiliency efforts in disaster situations, and provides communities with effective mitigation tools through the development of an information clearinghouse for
state and local use. The STRONG Act also achieves long-term savings for taxpayers through the establishment of a federal interagency working group to maximize government efficiency in its support of state, local, and private sector resiliency efforts. We should be doing more to support our local communities with emergency management, communication, public health, and energy reliability in the event of an extreme weather event. And we should be discussing better building codes and stronger infrastructure to lessen the risks before natural disaster strikes. This bill is good governance. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. The STRONG Act is endorsed by over 30 major organizations nationwide, including the U.S. Conference of Mayors and the American Planning Association. According to the American Planning Association, “The STRONG Act is a vital tool for making the government smarter and a better partner with local communities in mitigating the potentially devastating effects of extreme weather and natural disasters.” Legislation like this is not only beneficial to San Diegans, but an example of how strong leadership can bring the parties together in Congress to develop solutions for the common good of all of our citizens. Washington is often far removed from the realities that ever yday Americans face. I will continue to work across party lines to address issues like disaster resiliency that are important to San Diegans. Peters serves the 52nd District of California which covers much of central San Diego County, including Poway, Rancho Bernardo, 4S Ranch, Carmel Mountain Ranch, Sabre Springs and Rancho Penasquitos.

Nice job on fireworks Fabulous July 4 Rancho Bernardo fireworks show! Thank you to the committee in charge of the wonderful, fast paced, and unique fireworks show. What a display! We have been attending for several years (have lived in RB since 1973), and this was the best yet. Loved every minute of the designs, colors, and patriotic music. A job well done.

Next time, check the P.A. system My wife and I just returned from the “Spirit of the Fourth” parade in Rancho Bernardo. How disappointed we were, not by the parade but the lack of the public address system. We set up next to the parade P.A. booth at 9:30 a.m. because we did not want to miss a thing. At 3:40 p.m. the parade started and the P.A. system did not work. Several people seemed to be lost on how to approach the problem to fix it. A big thumbs down. May I suggest two things before next year’s parade? First, check the system several days in advance of the parade and also have a back-up system if problems occur as they did this year. Second, do not have traffic passing on the street on the opposite side of the parade route. People were running back and fourth between traffic sitting on the median areas. Another unsafe spot to sit. We enjoyed the parade but not as much as we would have had the P.A. system worked.

Watch out for the pork Taxpayers beware of the omnibus legislation immigration bill, be you a Democrat or Republican. The current immigration bill contains about 1,200 pages. Why? Because it can be loaded with pork, pork and more pork.
The House wanted to break out each part of the bill separately. The bill lost in the Democratic-controlled Senate. Regardless of party, each party put in pork, like studies for the sex life of ants or why grasshoppers hop or something similarly stupid. Why? Pork. We need immigration reform. But do we need to waste taxpayer money on insignificant pork items for Congress’ pet projects in their districts? If you like the government we are getting, don’t call you legislator. If you don’t like the government we are getting, let you legislator know your thoughts. Do nothing and we deserve the government we are getting. Remember, Obamacare has as many as 1,200 to 2,000 pages loaded with pork. There are also 5,000 pages of amendments or exceptions loaded with pork hidden in the bill. Why? Because it is an “omnibus bill.” Remember, the president said you could keep your current doctor. But he did not say how much it would cost you to keep your current doctor.

Some All-Stars missing Thumbs down to the 4S Ranch Little League for allowing four Juniors players to play All-Stars this season despite the fact they had vacation plans. These four players missed half or all of the 2013 AllStar season. These same players took spots away from four other players who were well qualified to be an AllStar and who would have been available for the entire All-Star season.

Dick Lyles GET REAL from the creative process of storytelling. Similar circumstances describe almost all entertainmentrelated occupational categories. Meanwhile, tenured professors with no accountability for performance teach what they want and when they want, with many teaching as few as nine semester hours and few teaching more than 12. They hold only minimal office hours for interacting with students. They write and moonlight while graduate aides teach many of their classes. I recently met with a tenured professor from a major university’s film school who insists on teaching film editing using methods and practices that have been obsolete for years. The only place those students might ever use these skills is in one of a handful of museums. Yet she and fellow faculty members brag about how she insists students learn the way “real film makers edit.” Although many new colleges and universities are focused on relevance and meaningful intellectual development, this won’t solve the problem of high tuitions. The government has entrenched itself too firmly in mainstream higher education to reverse the plantation mentality and entitlement mindset of the academic elites. They long ago lost focus on serving the common good or on serving society. Until we change the mindset that academia exists to serve the academicians and begin to return to the notion that it is here to serve students and society, there is no hope whatsoever that we’ll be able to create efficient and productive educational delivery systems that provide services at a reasonable fee. Lyles, a Poway resident, is a business/management consultant and best-selling author. Reader comments, through letters to the editor or online at pomeradonews.com, are encouraged.
H
ow ironic that on the same day our “do nothing” Congress let interest rates on federally subsidized student loans double from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent, the Oregon State Legislature passed a bill that will provide higher education for free at their seven state universities. In what’s been nicknamed the “pay it forward” model, Oregon residents will be able to initially attend state universities free of cost. Upon graduating, students will pay 3 percent of their paycheck for 24 years in order to help fund the program for future students. This innovative solution for funding college tuitions comes not a moment too soon. This year, the cost of attending public four-year colleges nationwide went up nearly 5 percent. Recently released data shows that in-state tuition and fees at California’s largest colleges jumped 130 percent on average during the last decade, or roughly five times faster than the rate of inflation. All the while, federal assistance is down and the average student loan debt each borrower carries has risen 30 percent to $23,829. Along with these grim realities for the individual college student comes broader economic implications. Graduates struggling to dig themselves out of a mountain of debt tend to put off getting married, having kids, and buying big ticket items such as cars and homes. In other words, a whole generation of young adults is spending less on consumer goods at a time when a sluggish economy begs for more consumer spending. Recently, our family had the pleasure of dining with Sam Porter, a San Diego retiree who taught engineering for 35 years at Western Washington University where my younger son Spencer attends school. Sam has been kind enough to mentor Spencer, who is majoring in engineering with a concentration in composites. Over dinner, Spencer complained to Sam about not being able to register for the classes he needs for his major due to faculty layoffs and fewer sections of popular classes being offered. If things don’t change, it could take Spencer five rather than four years to complete his degree. Sam tried to explain the dynamics at play telling us that when he began teaching at Western the state legislature
Amy Roost AU CONTRAIRE paid for 70 percent of the cost of running the University. It now provides a mere 19 percent, and the rest must come from student tuition and fees. Sadly, he said there has developed a “terrible disconnect” between the Legislature and what must be done to provide enough faculty to meet student desire and demand for courses. In 1963 — when tuition at SDSU cost $5 — President Kennedy gave the school’s commencement address. During it he said, “One of the most impressive if not the most impressive accomplishments of this great Golden State has been the recognition by the citizens of this state of the importance of education as the basis for the maintenance of an effective free society.” I guess you could call California’s promise as an educational trailblazer unfulfilled as it currently ranks 49th in the nation in per-pupil spending. Reasonable people can and will debate the merits of various college majors or whether there is intrinsic value in the acquisition of knowledge, no matter how arcane. Some will argue that it is not the cost of a college education rather it is “degree inflation” (the increasing perception that people need a college degree to be viewed as employable) that is the real problem. Others, like Dick, claim it is entitled academic elites who have caused the cost of college to skyrocket. But few could argue that less debt raises all ships — with the possible exception of bankowned yachts. It’s time for California, like its neighbor to the north, to get innovative and rededicate itself to the importance of not only education but to the importance of the freedom and opportunity that would come with education were it not for the ball and chain of student debt. industry. A former local resident, she now lives in Solana Beach. Reader comments, through letters to the editor or online at pomeradonews.com, are encouraged.

Resolution urges support of air show SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego City Council unanimously approved a resolution Tuesday calling on the Defense Department to support the Miramar Air Show this fall. Dozens of air shows have been scrubbed around the country this year, the result of automatic federal spending cuts from sequestration. According to a city report, the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar has not received permission from the Pentagon to host the 58th annual air show, which is scheduled for Oct. 4-6. The air show attracts about a half-million people over its three days and is linked to $17 million in direct and indirect spending, according to the report. Councilwoman Lorie Zapf, who introduced the resolution, said the city needed to be “proactive and not reactive in trying to keep something that’s not just entertainment or tradition,
but has a huge economic impact to our community here in San Diego.” Kimberley Miller, a military spouse, and Larry Blumberg, executive director of the San Diego Military Advisory Council, said profits from the air show fund wellness and qualityof-life programs like childcare at the base for service members and their families. The funding would be lost if the air show was canceled, they said. No military officials spoke at the meeting. “I want to make sure that the city of San Diego, this City Council, has weighed-in decisively so the folks back in Washington know that we want to maintain our air show for all the benefits that were mentioned, for the Marine Corps, for San Diego, for our families, our military families,” council President Todd Gloria said.

CRIME LOG
Open garage entices burglar in RB A garage door left ajar for ventilation cost the residents of a Rancho Bernardo home some of their possessions early Sunday morning when their garage was burglarized, San Diego Police Northeastern Division posted on their Facebook page. The burglary took place on the 12100 block of Royal Lytham Row. According to the post, the homeowners went to bed around 1 a.m., leaving the garage door partially open for ventilation and their two unlocked vehicles parked inside the garage. If that isn’t possible, then steer clear of the area completely.” The closures, Berman said, will generate massive traffic congestion and could cause delays up to three hours. While the southbound I-15 express lanes will be open and free of charge during the closure, motorists are still encouraged to avoid the area and take an alternate route to help alleviate traffic congestion. During the I-15 closure, Caltrans will be making drainage improvements to correct a potentially dangerous issue discovered during the last rainy season, said I-15 and I-805 Corridor Director Gustavo Dallarda. Caltrans engineers discovered that due to the natural curvature of the freeway, there is a portion near the Rancho Penasquitos/Poway Road on-ramp where water pools because the incline prevents it from reaching pre-existing drainage areas. While there have not been any accidents from the drainage issue, Dallarda said a big storm could change that. “If we get a high-intensity storm, water will collect and can cause accidents,” said Dallarda. Dallarda said that the new

They took out another patent together and Readler sold the exclusive use to Teder, whose company pays Readler a 3 percent royalty on each unit sold. To date, almost 200,000 have been purchased around the world, with sales picking up in recent months after being mentioned earlier this year in The New York Times. Other promotions appear in random places, such as a friend’s out-of-state utility bill that had a list of energyefficient devices. Though Readler has invented two other items, this is the first selected for manufacturing. “It’s quite a wonderful feeling, holding your manufactured invention in your hand,” he said. “What possibly tops it is holding the first royalty check.” The best moment, Readler said, was when his dad told him a neighbor called to say he left the television on upstairs. That proved the FakeTV was perceived as real.

“The market trends we’re seeing in San Diego, fueled by high demand and tight inventory, are surfacing elsewhere in California and across the country,” said Linda Lee, SDAR’s board president. “San Diego, Los Angeles and Orange County are leading the way because Southern California will always be the place to be. I’m encouraged by the new numbers and I expect we will see more growth as more people get back to work and listings grow.” The strengthening of the market is apparent across San Diego County, particularly in Chula Vista, El Cajon, La Mesa, Carlsbad, Oceanside, Escondido and Rancho Bernardo, according to SDAR statistics. The ZIP codes with the most single-family sales in May: 92009 - Carlsbad, 67; 92064 - Poway, 62; 92128 - Rancho Bernardo, 61; 92130 - Carmel Valley, 60; and 92026 - Escondido, 58.

IRON WOMAN Poway native excels in endurance races, preps for Hawaii Triathlon
Sue Pope, who attended Poway High in the late 1970s and now resides in Utah, is currently training to compete at the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, this October. Courtesy photos BY ROBERT FULTON Sue Pope has always been athletic. While attending Poway High School in the late 1970s, Pope played basketball, volleyball and softball. After graduating in 1979, she accepted scholarships to play basketball and volleyball at Idaho State, before later transferring to the University of Utah. Even recently she’s competed in a national volleyball masters tournament. So it should be no surprise that nine years ago Pope took to participating in triathlons. “I like the competition for one thing,”
Pope said, speaking by phone from the University of Utah, where she works as a landscape supervisor. “You’re always trying to get faster. I do like the diversity of the different sports so you’re not always going out running every day or swimming or biking. I just like the diversity of the whole sport in general.” Pope is currently training to compete at the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, this October. She first got into triathlons in 2004 as a way to challenge herself and keep active. A group of friends were training for a triathlon and invited Pope along to a swim
class. She hadn’t swam competitively, and star ted slowly in the pool. She first got comfortable completing one length of the pool. Then two. Then three. Then a sprint distance of 800 yards, and now can power through the grueling 1.8 miles required of a full triathlon. “It was one of those things that I figured that if I wanted to do triathlons, I would have to really be committed,” Pope, 51, said. “By taking the class and learning to swim, then I said, ‘OK I’m here, I am committed.’ I’m willing to put forth the effort into it and try to do the best that I can.” The biking component was another mat-
ter. Though comfortable on a bike, Pope owned a hand-me-down mountain bike and couldn’t keep up with her friends on nice racing bikes. A new road bike cost a couple of grand. “If I want to be competitive, I can’t do it on this mountain bike,” Pope said. “I need to really make sure that this is something I want to do. It is a lot of investment in your time and money.” Pope has had a number of successes competing in triathlons at various distances. She recently finished third in her age group in May at the 70.3 Ironman in St. See IRON, Page B4
ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Move to catcher sparks Jones’ love for baseball BY MICHAEL BOWER
Poway National’s Alec Jones.
When Alec Jones was 7, he was not interested in waiting around for a baseball to be hit his way. In fact, his opinion on the game was it was too slow and failed to produce the constant action he needed. But that all changed when Jones strapped on the catcher’s gear and squatted behind home plate for the first time. After that, his outlook on the game changed and a desire to be the best has been fueling him ever since. “I played T-ball and Rookie ball in the beginning and I was not really liking the positions and how slow the game was,” said Jones, who turned 13 last Sunday and will be in the eighth grade this upcoming school year. “But then my coach put me at catcher and I just loved it ever since. I get the ball every play and I love being involved. It is like being the quarterback on a football team.” Jones, who is one of the top catchers in the county for his age group, helped the Poway National Little League Majors All-Star team excel in the District 31 tournament. bashed three home runs through Monday, including two against Solana Beach last Saturday in a game Poway National won 12-3. Jones, who now loves playing different positions, started at shortstop in that contest and helped turn two double plays. He finished with three hits and four RBIs. For his efforts, Jones is the Rancho Arbolitos Swim and Tennis Club Athlete of the Week. “It was a really good day,” Jones said. “Everything was just going right. I have been seeing the ball out of the pitchers’ hand ver y well and ever ything has just been going great.” See JONES, Page B4

DISTRICT 31 LITTLE LEAGUE ALL-STARS
Poway National’s run in Majors’ bracket comes to an end with the winner advancing to play Encinitas in the championship game Wednesday. Encinitas would have to be beaten twice to lose the District 31 banner. If Encinitas lost the first game Wednesday, the winner-take-all title game would be today at 6 p.m. at Poway National Little League Field (check Pomeradonews.com for results). **** 11 All-Stars The 4S Ranch Little League 11-year-old allstar team was slated to play Encinitas in an elimination game Tuesday in the District 31 tournament. If 4S Ranch survived that game, it advanced to face Escondido American in the final Wednesday. Escondido American needs to be beaten twice to lose the title. If Escondido American fell Wednesday, the winner-take-all title game would be Thursday at 6 p.m. at 4S Ranch Little League Field (check Pomeradonews.com for results). The winner of the District 31 tournament moves on to the Section 6 tournament.
BY HANK CAVAGNARO The three-game winning streak by the Poway National Little League Majors All-Star team ended Monday night after a 4-2 loss to Del Mar National at Del Mar National Fields. The PNLL All-Stars won three in a row to fight off elimination, including a victory over cross-town rival Poway American Little league. But Del Mar National was able to deliver the knockout punch to end Poway National’s hopes of reaching the District 31 title game. PNLL played a great game on Monday, putting in the effort all six innings, but struggled with the five-man rotation of Del Mar National. “With five pitchers, they kept us off balance,” PNLL manager Kelly Jones said. “It’s tough when every time you come up it’s a different pitcher and pitching style.” The bats were unfortunately slow for PNLL, as they were only able to scatter nine hits throughout the game. Poway National stole three bases and got to first on three passed balls. The bats appeared to come alive with Connor Oca’s RBI ground-rule double with two on in the fourth. Jaden Caro also recorded an RBI with a single in the third. In the second and fourth innings, PNLL turned a pair of double plays with great defensive efforts by Dylan Schram and Kyle Nevin. But it was not enough to get by Del Mar National. Poway National had quite a journey throughout the tournament. PNLL outscored its oppo-

The team had the tough task of trying to make a run through the losers bracket, after falling to Encinitas National 5-3 in the second round. Poway National appeared to be up to the task, getting three wins in a row to stay alive.

Newman turns in solid year for Arizona PHS grad was only freshman positional player named to Pac-12 All-Conference team BY HANK CAVAGNARO Poway High graduate Kevin Newman turned in a memorable first year at the University of Arizona this past season. College Baseball Newspaper selected the Wildcats’ star ting shor tstop to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American team. Newman was also the only positional freshman selected to the Pac-12 All-Conference team. “I was really excited about both (selections)” Newman said. “But I feel the Pac-12 honors meant more just because the prestige of the conference” Newman gained the accolades by star ting all 55 games and batting .336, which ranked 11th in the Pac-12. He also drove in 42 runs, which was the eighth most in the conference. Newman’s bat wasn’t the only thing that made the season incredible. He
Kevin Newman, a 2012 graduate of Poway High, hit .336 and drove in 42 runs as the starting shortstop for the University of Arizona this past season. Photo courtesy of UOA showed of f his smooth fielding ability, recording 163 assists and helping turn 45 double plays while making just six errors. Newman helped lead the young Wildcats to a 34-21 record this season. He was a quar ter finalist for the
Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year award, which means he was one of the top 25 shortstops in Division I baseball. He was one of just two fr eshmen (LSU’s Alex Bregman) to make it in the top 25.

Newman believes the future is bright for the Wildcats, as they will bring back six freshmen with some sort of experience as a starter. Even with this year being a major success for Newman, he is still looking to get better. “I’m never satisfied with where I’m at and I will always continue to improve,” he said. “I keep shagging ground balls and will do whatever I can to improve.” Newman gave a lot of praise to his teammates and coaches, especially manager Andy Lopez, who he says helped him improve a lot this season. Newman had big shoes to fill, taking over for Alex Mejia, who was the Pac12 Defensive Player of the Year and led the Wildcats to a College World Series title. Newman proved to be up to the challenge and then some.

the weekends. She caps off her distance sessions with core strengthening workouts. “It makes you feel good, once you work out,” Pope said. “If you have a down day at work or something just isn’t going right, you get out and you swim and you bike and you do some type of exercise. It makes me feel much better. I think that’s what keeps you going.” Later this summer, Pope plans to visit her mother, who still lives in Poway. Her father lives in Escondido,
and she has siblings scattered across the west. To prepare for the World Championships, Pope is trying to get acclimated to the heat she’ll endure in Kona “It’s the big world championship event and they have the best athletes from all over the world and I just want to see how I compare to all of the other athletes,” Pope said. “I figured if I have the chance to do it I might as well do it because I might not ever get that chance again. I’ll go and enjoy it and do the best that I can.”

Great things tend to happen to kids who put in as much work as Jones does. He hits at least one bucket of baseballs each day, takes ground balls, works on his arm strength and is always studying the strategy of the game. “There is a lot of natural talent there,” said Alec’s father, Kelly Jones, who was the head coach of the PNLL Majors AllStar team. “But Alec is the type of kid that trains really hard in whatever he wants to be involved with.” Alec already has a fan in one former Major League Baseball player, David Justice. The ex-Atlanta Braves player and threetime All-Star coached Alec when he was 7. “Justice was a big fan of my son,” Kelly said. “He really liked his work ethic and he took a special liking to my son; and that has had a positive affect on him. Alec looks up to Dave.”
“It was a good experience,” Alec said of playing under Justice. “He told us some stories and showed off his World Series rings and gave us some good drills. He inspired us and was a great coach to have.” Alec also looks up to his older brother, Connor Jones. Connor, a left-handed pitcher for the Poway High varsity team, has been helping Alec learn what to expect at the next level. “We will throw the ball around a lot and he gives me pointers on how high school baseball is and how the catchers work with the pitchers,” Alec said. “It helps me a lot to catch him and some of the other older kids.” Alec added he hopes to follow in his brother’s footsteps and play for the Titans in a few years. But for now, he will be concentrating on continuing to improve at the game he has grown to love.

How to choose a home stair lift Dear Savvy Senior, My wife is having an increasingly difficult time going up and down the stairs in our house. We are interested in purchasing a stair lift, but aren’t sure what to get or where to look. Can you help us? — Need a Lift Dear Need, A good home stair lift is a wonderful solution for seniors with mobility issues who have trouble with steps. A stair lift will carry your wife up and down the stairs in a safe seated position, giving her easy access to the second story or basement level of your home. But with so many options available how do you choose one that best meets your needs and budget. Here are a few shopping tips along with some good companies that offer them. Types of lifts There are two basic types of stair lifts that are sold today: straight and curved. The type you need will depend upon the design of your staircase. A straight stair lift is one that travels in a straight line up a flight of stairs uninterrupted by landings, bends or curves, and costs between $3,000 and $5,000 installed. Curved lifts, however, are much more elaborate and will go around corners, bends and changes in direction. Curved lifts are also much more expensive typically running between $10,000 and $15,000 or more depending on the complexity of the installation. Also available through certain companies are weatherproof lifts for outdoor steps, and standing stair lifts (also called perch lifts) for those who have trouble bending their knees. You also need to know that all stair lifts mount to the stair treads, not to the wall, so they are very sturdy and can be installed in almost any home. If your wife is a large person, you may need to get her a heavy-duty lift with a wider seat and bigger lifting capacity — all companies offer them. Or, if she’s tall, find out about raising the seat height during installation. Most stair lifts available today also have seats, armrests and footplates that fold up out of the way, and swivel seats that make getting into and out of the chair easier. They
Jim Miller THE SAVVY SENIOR also come with standard safety features like seatbelts, breaking systems and footrest sensors, push-button or rocker-switch controls located on the armrest for easy operation, and “call send” controls which allow you to call or send the unit to the other end of the stairs. Make sure the lift you choose has all these features. Depending on the company, you may also have the option of choosing between an electric (AC) and a battery powered (DC) stair lift. Battery powered units charge at the base station (some recharge anywhere on the track) are quieter, smoother and better than electric lifts, and will work even if there’s a power failure in the home. Where to shop While there are many companies that make, sell and install stair lifts, the most respected in the industry are Bruno (bruno. com, 866-345-7537) and Stannah (stannahstairlifts.com, 800-877-8247), followed by Harmar (harmar.com, 800-833-0478) and Sterling (handicare.com, 866-276-5438). Unfortunately, Medicare does not cover stair lifts, but many states offer Medicaid waivers that will pay for lifts to those that qualify, and the VA offers cash grants to veterans with disabilities for home safety improvements. To save some money, you may want to consider purchasing a used or refurbished model. Or, if you need a stair lift for only a short period of time, consider renting one. Most companies offer these options, and many offer financing programs too. To get started, contact some stair lift companies who will put you in touch with a dealer in your area. All dealers provide free in-home assessments and estimates, and can help you choose an appropriate lift. Send your senior questions to: Savvy Senior, P.O. Box 5443, Norman, OK 73070, or visit SavvySenior.org. Jim Miller is a contributor to the NBC “Today” show and author of “The Savvy Senior” book.

Light dining options, affordability offered at Mainstream Bar and Grill BY EMILY SORENSEN A longtime Powegian is bringing quality, affordable food to Poway with the opening of Mainstream Bar and Grill, located at 13385 Poway Road, in the former Le Peep location. Harr y Rogers, a former restaurateur and businessman who has lived in Poway for over 40 years, opened Mainstream Bar and Grill a little over a month ago, and has been enjoying success ever since.
“We’ve gone heavy into light dining,” said Rogers of the restaurant’s menu offerings. “We have 30 appetizers, like flatbreads and sliders, which can serve as a light dinner.” Mainstream Bar and Grill also focuses on affordability, with items on the menu ranging from $3.50 to $20. “It’s all good quality food, with nearly everything freshly prepared,” said Rogers. Even the bread is baked fresh, by a private baker. Mainstream Bar and Grill

Hey! Aren’t you hearing me?
ack in my dating days I was told by older, wiser people that women sense desperation and quickly run from it. The same applies to customers sensing that same quality in a salesperson. I was reminded of this when car shopping recently. Our 17-year-old Saturn was dying, and despite serious misgivings about hearing a salesman’s pitch, we visited a local dealership for a test drive. Being from New York City, I’ve seen my share of pushy people. But there’s a very fine line between acceptably aggressive and obnoxious. So, here we were at the dealership with someone whose only concern was making a sale, and wasn’t listening when we told him to back off. According to Forbes Magazine, “When it comes to qualities like honesty and integrity, survey after survey has the auto

Rogers said Mainstream Bar and Grill’s bottled beer is 10 to 20 percent cheaper than anywhere else in town. “We’re trying to stay price effective for Poway,” said Rogers. While Mainstream Bar and Grill is mostly a lunch and dinner place, it is open Sundays for brunch, of fering endless mimosas for $3, as well as

Rob Weinberg ASK MR. MARKETING salesman’s knuckles scraping the bottom of the barrel alongside those of politicians, insurance agents, and telemarketers.” This guy with the hardcore pitch reinforced this perception. Granted, lots of folks are trying to make up for the slow economy we’ve just survived. But ignoring what your sales prospect is saying is not a good way to influence people, make friends, or close a deal. We demonstrated we’d done our homework, were sticking to our budget, and would take no nonsense. When he said, “What will it take for me to put you into a new car today?” I thought the cliché was a joke. No such luck. Round and round we went: “If you promise to buy the car, I’ll give you a price.” “Give us a price and we’ll see if we’re ready to buy.” Disgusted, we finally left, called Bob Worner’s car brokerage, and a few days later had the car with better pricing and no hassles. It’s critical to properly read your audience, regardless of your business. If I say I want X, give me X. Offer me Y too, but back off if I say no — or you may lose the sale. As Forbes suggests, most folks don’t appreciate the “in your face” approach, but can guide you towards what they really want to buy. Be a good listener, and you’re more likely to make the sale. With that said, I wish you a week of profitable marketing. Contact Weinberg at www.askmrmarketing.com.

UNLESS YOU TAKE ACTION TO PROTECT YOUR PROPERTY, IT MAY BE SOLD AT A PUBLIC SALE. IF YOU NEED AN
EXPLANATION OF THE NATURE OF THE PROCEEDING AGAINST YOU, YOU SHOULD CONTACT A LAWYER. Notice is hereby given that RECONTRUST COMPANY, N.A., as duly appointed trustee pursuant to the Deed of Trust executed by PATRICK J DARCY, A MARRIED MAN AS HIS SOLE AND SEPARATE PROPERTY, dated 06/30/2005 and recorded 6/30/2005, as Instrument No. 20050551975, in Book N/A, Page 12627, of Official Records in the office of the County Recorder of San Diego County, State of California, will sell on 08/09/2013 at 9:00AM, SHERATON San Diego HOTEL & MARINA 1380 Harbor Island Drive, San Diego, CA 92101 at public auction, to the highest bidder for cash or check as described below, payable in full at time of sale, all right, title, and interest conveyed to and now held by it under said Deed of Trust, in the property situated in said County and State and as more fully described in the above referenced Deed of Trust. The street address and other common designation, if any, of the real property described above is purported to be: 12897 ELMFIELD LN, POWAY, CA, 920641515. The undersigned Trustee disclaims any liability for any incorrectness of the street address and other common designation, if any, shown herein. The total amount of the unpaid balance with interest thereon of the obligation secured by the property to be sold plus reasonable estimated costs, expenses and advances at the time of the initial publication of the Notice of Sale is $652,963.91. It is possible that at the time of sale the opening bid may be less than the total indebtedness due. In addition to cash, the Trustee will accept cashier’s checks drawn on a state or national bank, a check drawn by a state or federal credit union, or a check drawn by a state or federal savings and loan association, savings association, or savings bank specified in Section 5102 of the Financial Code and authorized to do business in this state. Said sale will be made, in an ‘’AS IS’’ condition, but without covenant or warranty, express or implied, regarding title, possession or encumbrances, to satisfy the indebtedness secured by said Deed of Trust, advances thereunder, with interest as provided, and the unpaid principal of the Note secured by said Deed of Trust with interest thereon as provided in said Note, plus fees, charges and expenses of the Trustee and of the trusts created by said Deed of Trust. NOTICE TO POTENTIAL BIDDERS If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a trustee auction. You will be bidding on a lien, not on a property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the
sale of this property, you may call 1-800-281-8219 or visit this Internet Web site www.recontrustco.com, using the file number assigned to this case 13-0004400. NOTICE TO POTENTIAL BIDDERS: If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a trustee auction. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware
that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call, (714)730-2727 for information regarding the trustee’s sale or visit this Internet Web site, https://www. lpsasap.com/, for information regarding the sale of this property, using the file number assigned to this case, T.S.# 9551-0940. Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the scheduled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone information or on the internet Web site. The best way to verify postponement information is to attend the scheduled sale. If the Trustee is unable to convey title for any reason, the successful bidder’s sole and exclusive remedy shall be the return of monies paid to the Trustee and the successful bidder shall have no further recourse.
