For a while, I just didn’t feel like myself, even around the people I love. Then came the chest pain. I was terriďŹ ed, but I felt better the moment I got to Palomar Medical Center. My nurse in the cath lab was Chrysta, my neighbor. Between her caring touch and my doctor’s medical expertise, I knew I was in good hands. That night, my daughter stayed in my room, so we both felt better. Today, I'm not just alive, I’m healthier. And I’ll be around for a lot more hugs.

Merchants gear up for holiday shoppers By KAREN BRAINARD

Keep your holidays happy

W

ouldn't it be horrible to have a burglar "visit" your home this time of year? There's never a good time to be a victim, but it seems worse during the holidays because many people look forward to this time of year as a season of joy and happiness. It's time for our annual reminder to be vigilant about our property and safety as we begin the 2014 holiday season. Deputies at the Ramona Sheriff's Substation will be on alert for those "grinches" who want to ruin the holiday spirit. But they need your partnership to reduce the opportunity for a crime to occur. Most important is that you report suspicious people and/or circumstances that you observe in the community. If you think it is an emergency situation, call 9-1-1. Otherwise you should call 760-789-1200 so a deputy can respond and assess the situation. Don't ever think that your suspicion isn't "important enough" — your information may lead to the arrest and conviction of a criminal. Take the time to call and report. Be sure to lock your doors and windows to prevent easy entry into your home. Could a burglar easily reach through a window and take your brightly wrapped gifts? Can they see into your garage and notice the brand new bicycle that you intended to give a child? Eliminate situations that could tempt a burglar to steal from you and ruin your holiday spirit. Always lock your vehicles — even if they are in the garage. Take out any gifts, computers, ipads, gps', cash or coins — anything that the thieves will take from you and "re-gift" to someone else. Most thieves are lazy and look for the easy route to take your belongings. Let's not make it easy for them. When shopping, be selective about your parking location. Make sure there is adequate lighting and you feel safe. Remember that when you return to your vehicle you may have your hands full of packages or a shopping cart. Ensure that you have your keys/remote control out so you can open the door and not be distracted as you look for your keys. It only takes a second for someone with bad intentions to approach you and put you at the disadvantage. You'll be glad to know that your Ramona Sheriff's Substation Mounted Volunteers will be donating their time to visit local shopping centers to keep an eye on the parking lots during the holiday season. When you see these uniformed sheriff volunteers on their beautiful horses riding in the community, take the time to acknowledge them for their dedication to safety in Ramona. You'll also see the Senior Volunteer Patrol keeping vigilant watch on businesses as you shop — all in the spirit of keeping Ramona an excellent place to live and work. The Ramona volunteers are an outstanding group of Ramonans who care about this community. If you have any crime prevention questions, call Crime Prevention Specialist Barbara Wallace at the Ramona station at 760-738-2425.

Artists invite community to reception for 'The Gift and the Box It Came In' The Tuesday Nights art group invites the community to "The Gift and the Box It Came In," an exhibition of works based on examining the traditions of giving and receiving. The reception will be in the Art Center in Ramona, 1140 Main St., Suite 208, on Sunday, Nov. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday Nights is an art workshop for creative types facilitated by Ramona artist Helen Wilson. Each workshop is built around a project idea. The projects end in an exhibition. "Mostly this is a way to advance creative skills while socializing with others of your artistic ilk," said Wilson. Participants began gifting three months ago by creating small art gifts and leaving them at undisclosed locations around the community to be taken or re-gifted. For each exhibition piece, Wilson asked:

‹>OH[ ^HZ [OL TVZ[ PTWVY[HU[ gift you were given? ‹>OH[ KPK `V\ HS^H`Z ^HU[ I\[ never receive? ‹>OH[ NPM[ KV `V\ [OPUR [OL world needs? The artists were free to interpret the project however their muses directed, Wilson said. One rule was, “keep a sense of play. The artists are Tracy Potter, Lark Burkhart, Deborah Behnke, Helen Petre, Susie Amundson, Ralph Jensen, Cindy Dodson, Antonia Cosentino, Kathe Rothe, Regina Wilson, Ann Marie Heaton, Marsha Cook, John Gardener, Kathleen Beck, Lauren Chiara, Nancy Fergusion, Sarah Gutz, Stephine Hass, Denise Kelly, Paula Riddle, Paula Beck, Rose Goehner, Sarah Spicher, Pamela Underwood, Nancy Winslow and Helen Wilson. Within the group are book artists, quilters, collage artists, glass art-

ists, mosaic artists, painters, mixed media artists, sculptors, educators, expressive art therapists, activists, environmentalists, jewelry makers, librarians and "just plain makers," noted Wilson. Reception Night dress is black and white, "so come in your funkiest formal wear," said Wilson. Attendees can buy a scratch-off ticket to win a planet ornament. Ticket sales will start at 7 p.m. Proceeds will go to the Art Center in Ramona. The exhibition is only three days and the reception is really a closing, noted Wilson. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. from Friday, Nov. 21, through Sunday, ending with the evening reception. Wilson may be contacted at studio@helenwilsonartist.com. The art group can be seen on the blog tuesdaynights-thegameroom. blogspot.com.

ina Seashore is the founder and director of the newlyformed Ramona Community Singers that will be performing at several holiday events. Residents can hear the Ramona Community Singers in concert at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, in the Ramona Library Community Room, and during the Christmas Tree Lighting event Saturday evening, Dec. 6, at Ramona Town Hall. In addition to leading the singing group, Seashore teaches private piano lessons and has 20 students in Ramona. >@E8 J<8J?FI< She is also music director at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in La Mesa, is the carillonneur at Balboa Park, leads community singa-longs, and hosts drum parties. Her latest projects are working on an “Around the World With Musicâ€? curriculum for elementary students, becoming a Kindermusik instructor and learning to play ukulele. A Seattle native, Seashore took accordion and piano lessons starting at age 6. She began her commuUP[` T\ZPJ JHYLLY PU [OL Ă„ M[O NYHKL by accompanying the school choir. As a teenager she was involved in community musical theater groups and led oldies sing-a-longs at a nursing home. She attended the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Wash., and focused on marketing and public See GINA SEASHORE page B2

1. What motivated you to start a community singing group? I am always looking for ways to “bring out the musicâ€? in ordinary people. I love helping people learn that everyone has music in them — not just pros. A few years ago, I was talking with a man who told me how much fun he was having playing in a community band. I thought to myself it would be wonderful to have a community singing group. The problem was where to meet? While at a Town Hall fundraiser I happened to mention to someone that it would be a great place for a community choir. A week later I got a call from Sharon Davis (Ramona’s honorary mayor) who told me she heard I was starting a singing group at Town Hall and what was I going to name it! It sort of snowballed from there — we had an interest meeting and started rehearsals back in February of this year. The choir has grown to about 25 members. The group is about music, of course, but I think more than that, it has become a place to make friends, laugh and lighten up for an hour and a half on Monday evenings. 2. What are your favorite songs? I have eclectic tastes when it comes to music. My playlists include everything from classic rock to Native American Ă… \[L [V *\IHU ZHSZH [V QHaa ^VYSK KY\T ming rhythms and more. It’s very hard to for me to narrow it down to a few favorites. Currently the one in my head (other than holiday songs) is “Almost Thereâ€? by Randy Newman. Fun, catchy and easy to sing along to. 3. Who are your favorite vocalists or bands? Again, hard to narrow down but Jason 4YHa 1HJR 1VOUZVU 2HYYPU (SS`ZVU )LU Taylor and Eva Cassidy (unfortunately deceased) come to mind. And I love the Dave Matthews Band, Coldplay, Indigo Girls and Santana. See FIVE QUESTIONS page B2

Players saw triple-digit temperatures this season and even had one Saturday rained out, but the young athletes took it all in stride and continued to put their best cleated foot forward every time they touched the grass. With the guidance of their volunteer coaches, these players are doing things with a soccer ball that they couldn’t do in August. "I've been coming out [V [OLZL Ä LSKZ MVY weeks in a row now and I've been able to watch each and every one of these kids get better, said league president

Kat McKown. “Watching them improve and have fun doing it is a lot of fun for me." One of the most exciting weeks of the season is the last one, because that’s when trophies are handed out and team parties commence. The younger divisions (ages 7 and 8) are not scored so that these soccer newbies can get their basic skills down and so every player goes home with a trophy. Once the kids enter Division 6 and up, however, the trophies for the top three teams are what they strive for all season. Time for action The defeat of the school bond in this month's election triggered a range of reactions, some of it angry and directed at personalities. While emotional reactions are understandable, personal attacks are a waste of time that only serve to polarize. It's time for positive action. Two Ramonans shared their ideas in Sentinel commentaries last week. One had supported the bond and one had opposed it. Both had good after-election suggestions. If we divide the district's needs into two camps — WH`PUN VMM [OL JLY[PÄ JH[L VM WHY[PJPWH[PVU KLI[ HUK working on repair, upgrade and maintenance projects — community members, alumni, parents, grandparents, teachers, administrators, support staff, businesses and friends can choose the role they'll play. Not everyone will help, and that's OK. Those of us who do will make a difference. Based on pre-election information, the district owes $32 million. That will grow as interest accrues, and the SVHU JHU IL YLÄ UHUJLK PU PM ULJLZZHY` WLYOHWZ at a lower interest rate. Persons wishing to help pay off [OL SVHU TH` ZLUK JOLJRZ WH`HISL [V 9HTVUH <UPÄ LK School District, with COP written in the memo portion of the check. David Ostermann, the district's business manager, said people and organizations can always donate dollars to the district or to a school. If it receives donations for COP payments, the district will set up a revenue account to track money received, he noted. Two women already have pledged regular donations to the COP account. The bond bid included $8 million for repairs and upgrades. That list could be tackled from top to bottom, and school principals and teachers could be queried about their most vital needs. Interested individuals, groups, organizations and businesses can select projects. Some people don't need to be asked. Mitch Roe, for example, read of a need after [OL ZJOVVS IVUK IPK MHPSLK HUK NV[ I\Z` WH[JOPUN roofs. The district's maintenance supervisor estimates that Roe has contributed about $36,000 in materials and labor in the past two years. -YPLUKZ VM 9HTVUH <UPÄ LK :JOVVSZ -69<: H J UVUWYVÄ [ MVYTLK HM[LY [OL IVUK IPK MHPSLK WHPK HUV[OLY YVVÄ UN JVU[YHJ[VY [V WH[JO YVVMZ ;OLZL HYL UV[ WLYTHULU[ Ä _LZ I\[ [V [OL Z[\KLU[Z HUK [LHJOLYZ who won't have to arrange buckets or move desks and computers when it rains, it's a blessing. Three FORUS members, one a Ramona High School freshman, attended the fundraising dinner at Ramona Elementary Friday evening and found people eager to participate. FORUS plans a community meeting at an as-yet-undetermined date and location. All are invited to hear what this volunteer group is about and to decide how, or if, to get involved. Some contribute money, others contribute expertise. All projects are coordinated with the district. This is a community that works together. While the school board and district tackle issues from their vantage point, we can do our part. What do you think?

Planners develop online tools Ramona Community Planning Group chair Jim Piva and member Richard Tomlinson praised San Diego County's Planning and Development Services' new online tools for residents. Tomlinson said the county updated its Geographic Information Systems (GIS) system so residents can pull up maps and access reports online. "It's awesome," Piva said at the group's November meeting. Zoning and characteristics of properties can be determined on the GIS maps, according to

the county. The new online tools are geared to streamline the county process and decrease billable hours for customers, the department states in its newsletter. Another online tool helps customers prepare plans and documentation to submit building permit applications. "The county's trying real hard," said Tomlinson, adding that county staff appreciated public input. For more information, see www.sandiegocounty.gov/content/sdc/pds. html.

Failla's father played tennis at Long Beach State and USC before spending seven years on the professional tour, and her mother played at Trinity University in Texas and spent two years on the pro tour. "She kind of grew up around tennis," Greg Failla said of their daughter. Her parents had no desire to force their children (She is the oldest of four) into tennis, but in her early childhood her enjoyment included using a wooden spoon to hit table tennis balls and a Ping-Pong paddle to hit tennis balls. A Blood Moon to wait for By HAROLD SCHACHTER Our planet Earth is in the midst of a tetrad. In astronomy, a tetrad is a series of four total lunar eclipses without any partial, or penumbral, lunar eclipse occurring in the intervening periods between total lunar eclipses. ;OL ÄYZ[ [V[HS S\UHY LJSPWZL PU [OL J\Yrent tetrad occurred in the wee hours of Tuesday morning, April 15, 2014. The second and most recent was in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, Oct. 8. The third total lunar eclipse is expected to take place in the wee hours of Saturday morning, April 4, 2015. And the fourth and last in the current tetrad is expected to take place on Sunday night, Sept. 27, 2015, shortly after the full moon has risen over Ramona. The times of these events all refer to [OL 7HJPÄJ ;PTL AVUL A total lunar eclipse occurs when Earth comes between the sun and the moon. Such a precise and perfect alignment of these three celestial bodies is called a syzygy. Syzygy looks like a high-scoring word in a game of Scrabble. It comes from the Greek word meaning "being paired together." The shadow this causes on the face of the moon has a reddish hue because of the refraction of the sun's light that's blocked out by the Earth interposing itself between the sun and the moon. As a result, this reddish moon is

called a Blood Moon. Tetrads are not that uncommon. Although there were no tetrads in the almost 328 years between July 16, 1581, and June 4, 1909, there are expected to be eight tetrads during this, the 21st century. Another interesting coincidence of these blood moons in the current tetrad is they all occur at the beginning of Jewish holidays. The April 15, 2014, and April 4, 2015, blood moon occur at the beginning of Passover, and the Oct. 8, 2014, and Sept. 27, 2015, blood moons occur at the beginning of Sukkot, the Feast of Tabernacles. The Jewish calendar is a lunar-based calendar, unlike our civil solar-based calendar. Two pastors have ascribed special sigUPÄJHUJL [V [OLZL ISVVK TVVUZ VJJ\Yring at the beginning of Jewish holidays. One of them, John Hagee, has even written a best-selling book about this coincidence,. Hagee asserts that this betokens special impacts on the state of Israel as well as all of worldwide Jewry. To this writer's knowledge, no Jew — layperson, scholar or rabbi — has ascribed HU` ZWLJPHS ZPNUPÄJHUJL [V ^OLU [OLZL blood moons occur, but Hagee and Pastor Mark Blitz have cited passages from New Testament scripture (Book of Joel 2:31 and Acts 2:19-22) as testimony to ZWLJPHS ZPNUPÄJHUJL Estate planning attorney Steven Rudd, =LCC F= JG@I@KÇ8k c\]k# QlckXe ^iXYj k_\ Xk$ k\ek`fe f] X pfle^ ki`Zb$ fi$ki\Xk\i Xk Kfne :flekip I\Xc <jkXk\ Xe[ ?fd\ CfXej [li`e^ k_\ D\iZ_Xekj JX]\ Ki`Zb fi Ki\Xk% 8k i`^_k# k_\ jkX]] Xk IXdfeX =Xd`cp ;\ekXc [i\jj\j lg ]fi ?Xccfn\\e n`k_ ;i% J\Xe =\\cp Xj ;i% >il Xe[ _`j jkX]] Xj d`e`fej# i\gi\$ j\ek`e^ Z_XiXZk\ij ]ifd k_\ dfm`\ ;\jg`ZXYc\ D\% =ifd c\]k Xi\# YXZb ifn1 JXdXek_X JXcbX# ;i% =\\cp# K`]]Xep I\\[ Xe[ D\c`jjX :XdgY\cc2 ]ifek ifn1 N\e[p J_\\$ _Xe# 8eeX N_`k\ Xe[ MXe\jjX :Xjk\ccXefj% Efk g`Zkli\[ `j CXli`\ :c\d\ekj% Sentinel photos Karen Brainard

In summary, unless the reader is awake in the wee hours of the morning (well before the sun rises), the Blood Moon to wait for is the last one in the tetrad, on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2015. NOTICE TO POTENTIAL BIDDERS: If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a trustee auction. p p y Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder's office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call (714) 573-1965 or visit this Internet Web site www.priorityposting.com, using the file number assigned to this case 1351610. Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the scheduled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone information or on the Internet Web site. SUPERIOR COURT OF CALIFORNIA COUNTY OF SAN DIEGO 1409 Fourth Avenue San Diego, CA 92101 Madge Bradley Estate of: RICKIE JANICE GRAHAM, Decedent NOTICE OF PETITION TO ADMINISTER ESTATE OF: RICKIE JANICE GRAHAM CASE NUMBER: 37-2014-00037090-PR-PW-CTL To all heirs, beneficiaries, creditors, contingent creditors, and persons who may otherwise be interested in the will or estate, or both, of RICKIE JANICE GRAHAM. A Petition for Probate has been filed by LEIGH T. LANDRY in the Superior Court of California, County of SAN DIEGO. The petition for Probate requests that LEIGH T. LANDRY be appointed as personal representative to administer the estate of the decedent. The petition requests the decedent’s will and codicils, if any, be admitted to probate. The will and any codicils are available for examination in the file kept by the court. The petition requests authority to administer the estate under the Independent Administration of Estates Act. (This authority will allow the personal representative to take many actions without obtaining court approval. Before taking certain very important actions, however, the personal representative will be required to give notice to

interested persons unless they have waived notice or consented to the proposed action.) The independent administration authority will be granted unless an interested person files an objection to the petition and shows good cause why the court should not grant the authority. A hearing on the petition will be held in this court as follows: Date: 12/02/2014 Time: 11:00 a.m. Dept.: PC-1. Address of court: same as noted above. If you object to the granting of the petition, you should appear at the hearing and state your objections or file written objections with the court before the hearing. Your appearance may be in person or by your attorney. If you are a creditor or a contingent creditor of the decedent, you must file your claim with the court and mail a copy to the personal representative appointed by the court within the later of either (1) four months from the date of first issuance of letters to a general personal representative as defined in section 58(b) of the California Probate Code, or (2) 60 days from the date of mailing or personal delivery to you of a notice under section 9052 of the California Probate Code. Other California statutes and legal authority may affect your rights as a creditor. You may want to consult with an attorney knowledgeable in California law. You may examine the file kept by the court. If you are a person interested in the estate, you may file with the court a Request for Special Notice (form DE-154) of the filing of an inventory and appraisal of estate assets or of any petition or account as provided in Probate Code section 1250. A Request for Special Notice form is available from the court clerk. Attorney for Petitioner: Law Office of Scott C.
