Kohorst returns to manage Ramona Valley Grill By KAREN BRAINARD Joyce Kohorst is back, operating the restaurant now known as Ramona Valley Grill. "I've gotten a lot of good comments from people. They're glad I'm back in the business," said Kohorst. She and her husband, Don, are the original owners of the restaurant. They built it in 1987 with Don as the general contractor, and they hired all local contractors and employees. In March 1988, they opened the restaurant as one in the Sizzler chain. "We ran the restaurant for 12 years," said Joyce. Since 2000, the restaurant has changed hands a few times. When the Kohorsts' son-in-law from Poway operated it, the restaurant became Ramona Valley Grill as Sizzler Corporation was not active in San Diego County, said Joyce. When the restaurant's most recent lessee became ill, Kohorst had a

on banquets and events. The restaurant offers a Sunday brunch buffet with an omelet station from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Ramona Valley Grill is closed on Monday, but that may change, said Joyce. The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Looking about her restaurant, Joyce remembered that they used to have pictures on the walls of airplanes, including
those from World War II and German Aces. Don PZ H WPSV[ ZOL L_WSHPULK That might be something to bring back to the restaurant, she said. Joyce said they really enjoy the community of Ramona. Before moving full time to Ramona, the Kohorsts came on weekends from Glendora to operate a Christmas tree farm on their Magnolia Street property. "We've gotten to know a lot of nice people," she said.

Please repeat your hot dog story Molly Sanborn With pleasure. I ran this story years ago, demonstrating how marketing’s an investment in your I\ZPULZZ · UV[ HU L_pense. It’s as true today as it was then. Once there was a couple struggling to make a living with their roadside hot dog stand. Trucks and cars would whiz by without a glance despite the fact that the hot dogs were tasty and the coffee the best in region. The couple found P[ KPMÄJ\S[ [V Z\WWVY[ [OLTselves and their young son. Then the wife got an idea.

They enlarged the stand and hired many people to accommodate [OL [YHMÄJ ;OL` Z[H`LK open seven days a week, 24 hours a day, and made more money than they ever thought possible. Nonagenarian retires after decades of volunteering By KAREN BRAINARD Harry Palmer was riding his motor scooter to work when he heard a voice say, "Harry, do good while you can." The voice, he said, "came out of nowhere." Two weeks later he heard the voice again with the same message in the same location. Palmer stopped at a church and told a minister about the voice. "He says 'you've had a celestial calling,'" Palmer recalled. That was in 1947 and Palmer took that calling to heart. He has been doing good ever since. The historic Buffalo Soldiers will come to life when Ralph Finnestair comes to the Ramona Pioneer Historical Society meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 17. The meeting will start with a potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m. in the Barnett Barn on the grounds of the Guy B. Woodward Museum at 645 Main Street. The public is invited. Those attending are asked to bring a main dish, salad or desert to serve eight. A member of a re-enactment group featured many times in the San Diego
area, Finnestair will appear in full regalia and will explain the soldiers' living conditions, clothing, equipment and duties. Formed at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, in 1866, the Buffalo Soldiers had a colorful and meritorious career culminating in service during World War I. At various times they escorted the U.S. Mail and various settler groups as they headed west in the 1880s. For more information about the event or the historical society, call the museum at 760-789-7644.

Direct communication ^P[O LSLJ[LK VMÄ JPHSZ MVZ[LYZ VWLU NV]LYUHUJL By GARY HURST Karen Brainard's article in the Jan. 22 edition of the Sentinel about the Jan. 13 meeting of the Ramona Municipal Water District Board (RMWD) was informative and important for several reasons. The board decided not to meet Director Arnie Cares' request for an individual email account so his constituents could communicate directly with him. Currently all email to the directors is managed by the general manager in conjunction with the president of the board. Past abuses of individual email accounts and the need to store all emails were cited as reasons to preserve this system. As Director Cares pointed out, he would like to communicate directly with constituents without intermediaries, who inherently play the role of editors in this information system design. Constituents of RMWD directors also want to communicate directly with our elected directors. This is an essential part of a modern and open communications system. Directors cannot represent constituents if they cannot readily communicate directly with each other. The storage of emails is essential to the fair and equitable operation of such a communication system because it minimizes the "he said, she said" character of verbal communications. Verbal communications represent far too much of current communications — resulting in way too many "back-room" deals. The San Diego Country Estates Association Board (SDCEA) recently made the same decision, apparently for the same reasons. The failure of these boards to provide for open communications directly between elected directors and constituents is inherently dic[H[VYPHS HUK [`YHUUPJHS 0 \YNL IV[O IVHYKZ [V M\SÄ SS promises made by recently-elected directors to open communications with constituents. Outrage over President Obama's National Prayer Breakfast Remarks After listening to President Obama’s remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast, I could no longer be silent. I was totally offended and outraged, as a Christian and an American, at his comparison of the barbaric actions of ISIS to the actions of Christians over 1,000 years ago. President Obama doesn’t seem to know that the Crusades were in reaction to 400 years of systemic genocide of Christians at the hands of Islamic jihadists. It’s OK for him to condemn today’s Christians for things that happened a thousand years ago but not OK to condemn today’s Islamic jihadists for what is happening today. All Ramona middle and high school students are invited to a free skateboarding clinic on "skogging" to learn the switch kick and pedidexterity. Hosted by Olive Peirce Middle School After School Skate Program and the Ramona Skatepark Champions, the clinic will be presented pro-skateboarder and skogger Steven Meketa at the OPMS tennis courts, 1521 Hanson Lane, at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20. Students who are not part of the OPMS After School Skate Program must have a waiver form signed by a parent or guardian. The form is available at the Ramona Skatepark Champions Facebook page, www.
"We don't even have a skatepark yet, but we are happy and proud to help promote healthy activities for our local skateboarding youth." Dwight Webster, Ramona Skatepark Champions facebook.com/ramonaskatepark. While the clinic is free, participants are asked to buy T-shirts or make a donation to the construction of the Ramona Skatepark. The style of skateboarding called "skogging" uses both feet to push the skateboard using a special switch kick. This method promotes pedidexterity in skateboarding which helps to build muscles in both legs equally and is especially suited to street skateboarding over long distances. Skogging, deS T A T E
scribed as a combination of skateboarding and jogging, requires no special equipment like rails or jumps, but is most effective with longboard-style skateboards. Students can bring their own longboard or skateboard or share a longboard provided by Meketa's sponsors, www. churchillmfg.com, LAX Longboards and www. funboxdist.com. The donated longboard will be given away to a lucky participant at the end of the clinic. O F

This is the fourth in a series of five articles focused on the benefits of installing solar photovoltaics on your home in 2015. In this piece, Will Hobbs, owner of Native Electrical Construction, Inc., provides expert insights on the the differences between a roof-mount and ground-mount solar system. Be sure to check back for next week’s feature that will close out this section that Hobbs hopes has served as an educational and enjoyable experience! For many homeowners seeking to add solar arrays to their properties, there is the option of roof-mount or ground-mount systems. Will Hobbs, president of Native Electrical Construction, Inc., in Ramona consistently recommends the ground option if possible. “I have discovered that many of my competitors attempt to persuade customers to install their photovoltaic solar arrays on the roof,” said Hobbs, who founded his company in 2005. Among the typical reasons, Hobbs says, include a desire to complete the job faster or the fear of added costs discouraging consumers from going through with the project. “Also sometimes they don’t have the required contractors licenses or the construction or engineering background to design the infrastructure required for a ground-mount system,” he said. Hobbs said that even though the roof-mounted system will cost less than the ground variety nine out of 10 times, that safety, performance and aesthetics should guide your final decision.
SAFETY FIRST In working with Cal Fire, Hobbs has discovered that the department prefers your solar installation be located on the ground. Hobbs’ company is currently working collaboratively with Captain Bob Bowden of Cal Fire in an attempt to establish training protocol for emergency crews and first responders arriving on the scene of an emergency involving a solar system.
John Rowe (homeowner) - 19.9 kW Solar System Installation (Rancho Santa Fe, CA.) “I am happy to endorse the quality and reliability of Native Electrical Construction, Inc. Native Electrical Construction, Inc. has done large and small projects for us and I’m always completely satisfied.”
PERFORMANCE & MAINTENANCE
“A PV solar system generates electricity via electrical components and equipment,” Hobbs said. “By teaming up with Cal Fire we have witnessed documented instances of fires occurring as a result of either equipment malfunctions or faulty PV solar array installations on roof tops.”
Your roof top in most instances won’t have the most ideal sun orientation to achieve optimum performance, Hobbs said. In most instances the infrastructure required for a ground system can be installed in a manner that accommodates sun orientation and achieves increased performance.
Hobbs recommends you select a contractor who possess a C-10 electrical license and who uses reputable manufacturers for the equipment they are installing.
Hobbs encourages homeowners to regularly clean and maintain their systems, no matter where they are located. “If you’re waiting on the rain to do this chore for you, in Southern California you could be waiting a while,” he said. “Dust is an issue and it is hard to keep things clean here for some reason.”
And Hobbs knows fire safety. He is a former United States Marine with six years of firefighter experience and intensive training in crash fire rescue from a prestigious fire academy. “Most property owners don’t have the required safety equipment to get on their roofs and clean their solar arrays and they don’t want to pay someone to hose off their PV solar systems,” he said. “As a result they place themselves in unsafe situations if they elect to take on maintaining and cleaning the equipment themselves.”
The difference between having to clean a ground-mounted system compared to a roof-mounted one is night and day, according to Hobbs.
SPACE & AESTHETICS Another limiting factor of the roof-mounted install is space. Most roofs have many obstructions that limit the amount of solar modules that can be installed. Additionally, there are now codes and regulations that require setbacks for emergency personnel access that affect most rooftop installations. By installing your system on the ground you can avoid many limitations and obstructions posed by rooftop installations. Hobbs says that for 99 percent of property owners, a solar array was not in the original architectural design of the roof. That’s why choosing a ground installation can be more beneficial to a homeowner in terms of being creative with placement. “By installing your array on the ground you have more options as to how to install it in a manner which will blend seamlessly or discreetly at your property,” he said. In many cases, compliance and oversight can have a lot to do with whether or not you will even have a choice in adding a roof-mounted unit. “In exclusive neighborhoods such as Rancho Santa Fe Ca,” says Hobbs, “the association that provides approval of the PV solar array design drawings will only allow for PV solar systems to be installed on rooftops if the property is unable to accommodate a ground mount installation or if other justifications are cited within the design.”

Frankie Riddle (City of Palm Desert, Director of Special Programs) - EV Charging Stations Installation (Palm Desert, CA.) “The City of Palm Desert undertook the construction and installation of eight new electric vehicle charging stations through a public/private partnership with private property/business owners as well as a community college and university campus. The project required coordination with property owners, state and private college entities as well as other utility providers, trenching and other site work not typical of basic installation of electrical vehicle charging station. Native Electrical was knowledgeable and easy to work with.”
Established in 2005, Native Electrical Construction Inc. is a full service, family-owned and operated electrical contracting firm with a staff properly trained in the electrical and renewable energy industries. Students step back in time
Guy B. Woodward Museum at 645 Main St. is Ramona's best kept secret, James Dukes Elementary teacher Kimberly Schramm said as 27 of her third-grade students spent two hours learning what life was like in pioneer days as part of their community history unit. Accompanied by 14 chaperones, the students learned that children once did their homework by candlelight, made their own toys, and danced in Ramona Town Hall. "How funny t h a t kids use to ride
cows to school in Ramona," Jacob Raher said. "It must of taken them a long time to get to school." "And they had no Albertsons," an incredulous Riyen Chapp commented. "Ramona looked way different back then," Riyen said. "The schoolhouse was so tiny. You had to write on the chalkboard and if you misbehaved, you have to sit in the corner." A trip from San Diego to Ramona by horse-drawn stagecoach took eight to 10 hours. Those headed to Julian travLSLK HUV[OLY MV\Y [V Ă„]L OV\YZ museum docent Mischa Dobrotin told the students.

Felici Piano Trio presents Valentine's concert here Felici Piano Trio will present works by Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Schoenberg in the third concert of Ramona Concert Association's 30th Anniversary Season on Valentine's Day, Saturday, Feb. 14. The concert will be in the Charles R. Nunn Performing Arts Center on the campus of Olive Peirce Middle School, 1521 Hanson Lane. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and the concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. The piano trio, founded in 1994, has performed approximately 350 concerts in Europe, South America and the United States. It features Belgian pianist Steven Vanhauwaert, German violinist Rebecca Hang and American cellist Brian Schuldt, who individually and as a trio have won competitions in music and have released 11 CDs. "The Felice Trio exhilarates audi-
ences with dynamic and polished performances, accompanied by engaging background commentary," said Marlene Robershaw, Ramona Concert Association president. Rave reviews from Europe and the United States include comments such as, “Fluid interaction of pianist, violinist and cellist were beauty to behold and the three played as one and brought down the house,“ said Robershaw. For those without concert association memberships, single concert tickets may be purchased at the door for $15 for adults and $5 for children. Information about additional concerts in the association's anniversary season will be available. For more information, call 760-7897474 or 760-788-0434 or visit ramonaconcerts.com.

After a two-year process, musician Jason Winters, a Ramona resident and Mountain View Community Church worship pastor, has realized his dream of producing a worship album. The album will be available at a Worship Concert Friday, Feb. 20. The free concert, open to the public, will be held at Mountain View Community Church (MVCC), 1191 Meadowlark Way, near the corner of state Route 78 and Ash Street. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. The worship night will last until 9:30 p.m. and will be led by Winters and the MVCC Worship Band, Joey Orate from Cornerstone Church in Poway, and Nate Keating from Grace Community Church in Ramona. er two years ago to begin his dream of recording a worship album. He had been writing songs that bring focus and glory
to God for 18 years and believed it was time to make a studio recording of those songs. He raised $4,000 in 60
days to fund the project. His band then went into pre-production mode — writing, arranging and practicing for countless
hours. A year later, Winters and his band began the recording process at Studio West in Rancho Bernardo, spending eight months in the studio with Shawn Kreitz tracking and producing the album. "One of the greatest struggles that we faced was working around everyone's schedules," Winters said. "We are all married with kids and full-time jobs, so we had to be really creative with our schedules. But Shawn Kreitz donated his time to us for free and he was such a blessing to work with."

Once the tracking was done, the songs were sent to Kellogg Boynton, a professional mixing engineer. "It was a delight working with such professionalism, and he made my music sound better than I could have hoped for," said Winters. They spent three months mixing the 12song album before sending the tracks to Colin Ritchie at Capricorn Studios in San Diego for mastering. For more about Winters, see www.jasonwintersmusic.com.

Bulldog football player competes on Team USA By KAREN BRAINARD Playing middle linebacker for Team USA in the 2015 International Bowl against Canada was a thrilling experience for Ramona High School junior Grady Vazquez. The Bulldog football player competed on USA Football's under-18 national team Jan. 30 at At&T Stadium — home turf for the Dallas Cowboys — in Arlington, Texas. "It was crazy, surreal, running out of the tunnel and seeing how big it was," Grady said. "The opportunity to play VU [OL *V^IV`Z ÄLSK ^HZ amazing for all of us," said Grady's mother, Kristin Vazquez. The entire Vazquez family attended. That included Grady's dad, Toby;

his sister, Daisy; younger brother, Levi; and older brother, Chandler. Chandler's girlfriend, Tess Beatty of Ramona, also went on the trip. Although Grady's team lost to Canada 25-9, he got in some good plays as
No. 57 on defense to help prevent Canada from scoring more touchdowns. "I was in a couple goal line stands," said Grady. "My son did some good defense. They called his name several times," Kristin said.
According to Grady, there were about 53 players on his team and nine or 10 linebackers. This was the sixth annual International Bowl to be hosted by USA Football. About a year ago, Grady attended a twoday skills camp hosted by USA Football at Helix High School and was selected to play in the organization's developmental games in the Los Angeles area in July 2014. The total amount of said obligations at the time of initial publication of this Notice is $458,887.91. In the event that the deed of trust described in this Notice of Trustee's Sale is secured by real property containing from one to four single-family residences, the following notices are provided pursuant to the provisions of Civil Code section 2924f:
NOTICE TO POTENTIAL BIDDERS: If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a trustee auction. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder's office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee's sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call 714-5731965 or visit this Internet Web site www.priorityposting.com, using the file number assigned to this case 75398.
