San Diego County Sheriff's Department responded to the robbery, checked the area and called in an ASTREA helicopter to assist in the search but was unable to locate a suspect. The bank branch was temporarily closed following the robbery. According to the FBI, a similar robbery occurred at Point Loma Credit Union at 3777 Sports Arena Blvd. in San Diego on Feb. 21, 2014, around 11:38 a.m. An unknown male also used a demand note and left the bank after receiving a sum of money. By MAUREEN ROBERTSON When it comes to the state's new math standards for grades nine through 12, high school teachers in Ramona prefer the integrated to the traditional approach. "It's a more natural approach," Ramona High School math teacher Ola Knutsson told trustees at their meeting on Feb. 12. "We prepare them, in our opinion, for the world outside of school and for college, the applications of the real world." The traditional approach to high school math consists of Algebra 1 and Algebra 2, separated by a year of geometry. The integrated pathway calls for Integrated Math 1, 2 and 3, with each including algebra, geometry, probability and statistics. The county also plans to convert its Department of Veterans Affairs into a streamlined Military and Veterans Department in the next few months and begin a program in the East County called Vet Connect, which will allow veterans to access assistance using FaceTime video calling from library computers, Horn said. Plans for a memory care unit at the Chula Vista Veterans Home of California are also in the works. Horn said the effort to better serve veterans was only one example of the county's stewardship, or
the ethic that embodies responsible planning and resource management. Spotlight on Local | Businesses New Arch Health doctor arrives as one leaves to volunteer overseas By KAREN BRAINARD
Arch Health Partners has welcomed a new doctor to its Ramona Ambulatory Care Center after Dr. Charles Hardison left to volunteer in the Middle East. Dr. Jerry Miller has been a family practitioner since 1992 and is new to Arch Health Partners, having recently moved to San Diego from Wisconsin. He and his wife just bought a house in Ramona, he said. Miller lived near Madison, Wis., and attended medical school in Ensenada, Mexico. He served a year internship in Long Beach and three years of residency in Milwaukee,

Wis. Miller and his wife were motivated to move to the San Diego area because she is from Los Angeles and has eight siblings in the area, and they were ready for a change in weather.
"It's 15 below in Wisconsin today," he said Friday. "I can live with this." Listing all the outdoor winter chores in the Midwest, such as shoveling, Miller said, "It's a nice change." The 53-year-old doctor is at the Ramona medical clinic full time and can speak Spanish. Hardison, who practiced family medicine with Arch Health Partners in Ramona for the past four years, said he will be heading next month to a safe area of the Middle East to help develop specialized and family medicine practice. He will be among a group of several volunteer doctors, he said.
With his wife and two sons accompanying him, Hardison said they are excited about the opportunity. They visited the Middle East last year, he said. "It's my conviction that I live out my faith and not just practice religion," he said. "So I strive to seek and treat people the way that Jesus would treat people." At Ramona's Arch Health Partners care center at 211 13th St., Hardison said he saw patients of all ages and truly enjoyed the people. Although he lived down the hill, Hardison said, "I consider myself an honorary Ramona resident." The doctor said he ex-

s a marketing professional, my clients naturally expect me to deliver marketing services. Were I to offer plumbing or surgical services, they’d probably be taken aback. Simultaneously, as a writer I’m expected to try new things and push my own limits. Doing the same thing, day after day, will bore both you and me. And because it’s experimental, some of my writing will be successful, other times not so much. Artistic experimentation can be a good thing. Without it we’d have no Sistine Chapel ceiling or Mona Lisa. So it is with all creative folks, who push the envelope and have both the occasional hit and the occasional failure. This jumped to mind when I heard of Bob
Dylan’s new album, “Shadows in the Night.” Dylan, who made his career singing such classics as “Blowin’ in the Wind” and “Blood on the Tracks,” has started singing the great American songbook. My two cents is it’s a mistake. Dylan made his bones singing protest music with Joan Baez, guiding both the civil rights and anti-Vietnam War movements. Valley Club to feature 'Ramona's Wine Women' Two women instrumental in the growth of the wine industry in Ramona will be the featured speakers at the San Vicente Valley Club luncheon on Wednesday, Feb. 25. Carolyn Harris and Beth Edwards will talk about the history of the county’s winery ordinance and its direct link to the resurgence of wineries throughout San Diego County, especially Ramona. Both women are members of the Ramona Valley Winery Association (RVWA) and its Ordinance Committee, which worked with the San Diego County Farm Bureau and County Supervisor Dianne Jacob to bring about the county's winery ordinance in May of 2006. The Ordinance Committee also included Mike
Kopp of Kohill Winery and Don Kohorst of Pyramid Vineyard. Harris and her husband, Andy, own and operate Chuparosa Vineyards on Gem Lane, and Edwards and her husband, Victor, own and operate Edwards Vineyard & Cellars on Highway 78. The new “tiered” structure created in the ordinance was designed to encourage a renaissance of winegrowers in the county by providing a "boutique" or "farm stand" privilege that allows wineries to host buyers directly at a vineyard. Chuparosa Vineyards focuses on 100 percent estate-produced wines. Carolyn Harris is also a practicing attorney, specializing in federal contracts and general counsel services, including wine

OPINION
Community paper marks 129th year As Ramona Sentinel starts its 129th year with this issue, we're reminded that the community newspaper belongs to the community. Owners, editors, reporters and photographers come and go, but this publication remains. The Sentinel has been an institution for 128 years, longer than any of us have been alive, and we wish her continued success in carrying on her proud tradition of conveying the news and how it affects those of us who live here. The Sentinel is part of what makes us a community. It shares everything from election results to high school sports scores, and it gives readers a place to share their opinion of what's happening in town and beyond. We who work at the Sentinel cherish our time here and strive to be good stewards of a publication that has stood with the community through good times and bad, through celebrations and tragedies. As we start another year, we vow to continue serving the community and, as always, welcome suggestions on how to make this 129-year-old institution even better. Growing old isn't in the cards for the Sentinel, which recently upgraded its website and works with enthusiasm to keep readers up to date via Facebook and Twitter between its weekly editions.

Violence fueled by emotion Re: Outrage over President’s speech, Letter by Mary Kafka, Feb 12. I would like to remind the author that beheading people has been the favorite method of controlling people from the beginning of time. Our “good friends the Saudis beheaded at least 450 people last year, and I haven’t heard a peep out of Washington or the press about how bad they are. The French beheaded anywhere from 16,000 to 40,000 in one year alone, a very old method of terrorizing people. This isn’t about President Obama, Christian versus Muslim, or who is good and who is bad. Instead what we are witnessing is a nuclear reaction of violence fueled by emotions. The emotions we feel when we see someone having their head cut off are revulsion, anger, hatred and the desire for revenge. These are the same emotions Islamic people feel when we depose their governments, bomb them, killing innocent civilians, and disrupt their lives from afar, as with drones. They have seen the torture photos from Abu
Ghraib, they know what we did to Muslims in Guantanamo Bay and black prisons, adding fuel to the violent reaction to the point that they just want to kill us. Recently it was reported that as many as 20,000 young jihadists have poured into Syria for the chance to take revenge on the Western world, and Americans particularly. They pour in because we have intervened in Iraq, Libya and Yemen, turning those countries into lawless zones where no stable governments exist to control the crazies. Afghanistan is next. I think that if someone did that to us, we would be the jihadists waving our ÅHN HUK J\[[PUN WLVWSLZ heads off also. This reaction of violence is fueled by our actions around the world, and it is up to us to stop acting like the ISIS, the Saudis and others. It’s time that we treated other people in the world as we would want to be treated by them. Until that happens we can expect the violence to get worse, not better. Nobody wins on the road we currently travel. Dave Patterson Ramona

Businesses pitch in to orchestrate The Perfect Date for one couple By MAUREEN ROBERTSON Erica Runzel had a nonstop day getting ready for her Valentine's Day date with husband Rodney. Winner of The Perfect Valentine's Date 2015 sponsored by four Ramona businesses, she found the perfect dress and ac-
cessories at Isis Fuller Figure Fashion at 711 Main St., compliments of the business owned by Sally and Elizabeth Hilton. After selecting her dress and leaving it for Elizabeth Hilton to hem, Erica walked a few doors down the street to Bellamia Salon, Spa and Boutique at
745 Main, where Bellamia stylist Amber Martinez styled her hair. She also had her makeup applied in Bellamia, owned by Linda Hall. The wine and food pairing dinner was at Turtle Rock Ridge Vineyard Winery, where she said that she and her husband, Rodney, "had a great time" and enjoyed a different wine with every course. "It was wonderful," she said. "It was a nice hometown thing they did. It was a nice offering, and I appreciated it." The businesses provided everything at no cost to the Runzels, who both are Class of 1982 Ramona High School graduates.
Erica's family moved to Boundary Avenue in Ramona in 1976. Two houses separated her home and Rodney's. He had a crush on her when they were young, but she didn't feel the same way until they were high school sophomores, when they started dating. With two adult children — Briana, 25, and Alysha, 23 — the Runzels didn't need the babysitting service that Thomsen Learning Centre TLC offered as part of The Perfect Date. "The town has given us so much support and shown us so much love we thought it was a perfect time to give back and share that love within the

community," said Sally Hilton, explaining the motivation behind The Perfect Date. The Hiltons accepted nominations from the community, and Stacie Hickman-Carr's entry on behalf of the Runzels was selected. "This couple is my second set of parents," Hickman-Carr wrote. "Though not blood related, you would never know it by the way they love us. This couple is always giving and thinking of my family and loving my children as
if they were their own." Her children call their grandparents, Nittie and David Hickman, Mimi and Papa. They call the Runzels Mimi Dos and Papa Dos. Saying she has never known life without the Runzels, Hickman-Carr wanted "some time for them to just be a couple and enjoy themselves." She said the Runzels give without ever expecting anything in return. "Giving all is a beautiful trait they show with everyone," she said.

Selecting Equipment for your Solar System
Thursday, February 19, 2015
Ask the
Editor’s Note: Due to responses in regard to last weeks article; To be clear, Cal Fire takes no exception to a PV solar array installed in accordance with current building codes and regulations regardless of location and to date there have not been any instances documented as a result of faulty equipment or installations within their District. This is final of five articles focused on the benefits of installing solar photovoltaics on your home in 2015. In this piece, Will Hobbs, owner of Native Electrical Construction, Inc., provides expert insights on selecting equipment for your solar system.
There are a number of options out there for consumers when selecting equipment for their PV systems. Many customers, however, are more concerned about the impact of a solar system on their electric bill. This can lead to missed opportunities to inquire about the type of equipment that will be installed. “While the savings your solar system will provide is important, the equipment you are purchasing to generate that savings should be reviewed and compared between the quotes you receive,” said Will Hobbs, owner of Native Electrical Construction, Inc. NEC, Inc., includes equipment specification data sheets for its customers to review and consider within its cost proposals – “Be sure your contractor does the same,” Hobbs said. Once you receive the specification sheets, Hobbs recommends you conduct a little research to verify the warranties and product reviews to ensure you are comfortable with utilizing the equipment your contractor is proposing. Here is a breakdown on the types of equipment installed in a solar system and how you can make sure you’re getting the best quality from your contractors:
John Rowe (homeowner) - 19.9 kW Solar System Installation (Rancho Santa Fe, CA.) “I am happy to endorse the quality and reliability of Native Electrical Construction, Inc. Native Electrical Construction, Inc. has done large and small projects for us and I’m always completely satisfied.”
MONITORING EQUIPMENT
PV MODULES
Depending on the size of your system monitoring equipment may or may not be required.
Commonly referred to as solar panels, PV modules typically comprise the greatest cost for equipment associated with your PV system. When selecting a PV module, verify the warranty, verify how long that manufacturer has been in business, and verify the modules performance efficiency.
Hobbs suggests monitoring equipment for every installation. “The monitoring equipment allows both the consumer and contractor to monitor the systems performance and identify issues immediately,” he said.
Generally, the modules efficiency is directly proportional to costs when compared to other modules. “At NEC, Inc. we offer American made PV modules first,” Hobbs said. “Certain American-made modules outperform their overseas competitors in both cost and production when module efficiency is considered. Hobbs said that availability of product and customer support for American made-modules are driving factors in their popularity, but that you should consider all options before signing a contract. “There are some very reputable and efficient overseas products available as well and they are worthy of consideration,” he said. “Know you have options and request that your contractor present you with options when considering the PV modules to be installed.”
With the use of micro inverters each individual PV module’s performance can be monitored. With string inverters each individual string of PV modules within the array can be monitored. “The costs for monitoring equipment are very reasonable and well worth the price” Hobbs said. ‘
INFRASTRUCTURE Conduit, wire, electrical equipment, and building materials: This is where consumers have to pay close attention and ask questions. In order to receive the 30 percent Federal tax credit and incentives (if available), the types of modules and inverters included in your PV solar array have to carry certain manufacturer warranties.
Inverters convert the DC electricity that PV modules produce to AC electricity. In the past most PV solar systems consisted of string inverters to perform this task.
When obtaining the permit from your county or city to install your solar array, these warranties and equipment data sheets have to be submitted with your design drawings. In most instances the installation of the other electrical and construction materials not identified by data sheets have to meet the minimum standards of the current applicable building and electrical codes.
String inverters are electrically connected to a number of PV modules. String inverters need to be sized properly to operate most efficiently and last the life of the warranty, as they operate optimally when shading and different orientations aren’t a factor.
“Keep in mind, the use of the word minimum,” Hobbs said. “I have witnessed the installation of PVC conduit exposed on roof tops, switches in lieu of disconnects, and many other installations that meet minimum standards. However, they will not stand the test of time or the conditions of their environment.”
Some manufacturers provide string inverters that account for different orientations and some even have an emergency power option that can be utilized in the event of a utility power outage.
Hobbs suggests you ensure your contractor is going to install equipment that is suitable for the environment in which your installation is going to be completed.
“The emergency power feature is a great option for those residents who have wells or other critical loads that would be needed in the event of an emergency,” Hobbs said.
“I can guarantee that exposed PVC on a roof top anywhere in Southern California will warp over time,” he said.
INVERTERS
Micro inverters are also becoming more widely accepted as of late and offer great advantages to those customers who are affected by shading and different orientations. These type of inverters are individually connected to each PV module within the solar array. With the use of Micro inverters each PV module is independent of the other and the performance of one module does not affect the other. Alternatively, string inverters cause the PV modules to work in unison. This can lead to difficulties.
Here are some other quick tips from Hobbs on installing the appropriate infrastructure pieces to safely and effectively support your system. s %NSURE METALLIC CONDUIT IS SPECIl ED FOR ALL EXPOSED AREAS s %NSURE ALL ELECTRICAL DISCONNECTS AND ENCLOSURES INSTALLED OUTDOORS CARRY A .%-! 2 RATING s (IRE A # ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR FAMILIAR WITH REPUTABLE INDUSTRY STANDARDS RATHER THAN A SPECIALTY CONTRACTOR providing quotes that barely meet minimum building requirements Following these tips and remaining involved in the process, “will ensure that the infrastructure supporting your PV solar installation will stand the test of time,” Hobbs said.
Another aspect to be considered with Micro inverters is heat. On roof-mount systems the micro inverters are typically installed directly beneath the PV modules.
Established in 2005, Native Electrical Construction Inc. is a full service, family-owned and operated electrical contracting firm with a staff properly trained in the electrical and renewable energy industries. It has completed electrical projects ranging from residential remodels to new construction for estate properties, as well as public works initiatives for various municipalities throughout California.
“Due to my experience with electrical components and their performance when exposed to heat, I suggest that micro inverters only be considered for roof mount systems when shading and orientation are a factor,” Hobbs said. “The type of inverters selected should be determined by the circumstances associated with each location and the same research should be performed as aforementioned associated with PV modules.”
NATIVE ELECTRICAL CONSTRUCTION. 760.787.9346. WWW.NATIVEELECT.COM

“Should there be an issue with one of your PV modules in a string inverter supported system, all PV modules within that string will be affected,” Hobbs said.

just has to be done. My awesome grandpa is ďŹ nally at peace and has gone to be with the Lord. After a long hard battle with Alzheimer’s he can ďŹ nally be with his one true love again, my grandma. I am so blessed to have had him with me at my wedding. I can go on and on about my grandpa, his stories, what he had taught me and so many others, but words can never reveal what he meant to us all. I love you grandpa and you will be forever missed.â€? “We gathered at the ranch tonight to say goodbye to Grandpa Pete. While it is heartbreaking that he is gone from here, we know he is walking the streets of gold today. We really celebrated his life, his meaning, his inuence, and no one loved a good celebration more than Grandpa Pete. Pete would tell me about his experiences with Lockheed and deep sea submersible, something I could never
imagine.â€? “I went to see my grandpa today. He does not look good at all. I kissed him and rubbed his hair the way he likes it. I feel like I said good bye to him though. I love him to death for all he has done for me and my family. I know he will be alright since he will ďŹ nally be with my grandma again. I love you grandpa forever!! It’s still a little hard with my grandpa gone but I’m doing the best I can. Just hard cuz of us taking care of him. I miss his cussing and throwing things then tell me he loves me and so glad I am there. Love you Grandpa!â€? Please sign the guest book online at www. legacy.com/obituaries/ ramonasentinel.

NOTICE TO POTENTIAL BIDDERS: If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a trustee auction. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on this property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call (866)-9608299 or visit this Internet Web site http://www.altisource. com/MortgageServices/ DefaultManagement/ TrusteeServices.aspx using the file number assigned to this case 2014-04189-CA. Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the scheduled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone information or on the Internet Web site.
