She has been a chamber director for eight years and in the Ramona Rotary Club since 2005. She was president of Rotary in 2013-14 and is serving as past president. Sure I love Angry Birds, but‌ Can I increase business giving stuff away? 9V` 1VOUZVU Sure, but be balanced about it. For instance, while waiting for meetings I sometimes play games on my phone. Needing new challenges, I downloaded "Star Wars Angry Birds." This free app appealed to my love of the entire Angry Birds game franchise and my persistent efforts to defeat the Pig King. If you haven’t played — well, it’s complicated. Playing a round in this game takes about 20 seconds. Yet unlike previous Angry Bird games, this version inserts an advertise-

Allowing 10 seconds for each ad to appear and be swatted away, a JSPLU[Z Ä]L TPU\[L KLSH` IF9 N<@E9<I> translated to my seeing that ad 10 times. I’ve always advocated touching prospective customers seven to 10 times to complete a sale. Yet an ad every 20 seconds seemed a bit excessive.

The broker/agent said she loves working with her customers. ;OL VMĂ„JL H[ 4HPU St. is staffed by all females today. Working for Ramirez are Colette Hayes and Sonja Funk, who are licensed and can handle property and casualty insurance for auto, home or commercial. Sally Westbrook is the agency's marketer. "At 21 I didn't want to work with my mom," said Ramirez. "But then at 30, just the way the cards fell,

“There’s no free lunch, the saying goes. Free news websites and search engines make their money from advertisers selling stuff. As the consumer, I expect I’ll be “paying for the free offering with my time, looking at ads or visiting special website landing pages. And if Rovio only showed me that ad whenever I started playing the game, I wouldn’t complain. But two ads each minute was obnoxious. I quickly uninstalled the app. Regardless of what you sell, giving something away for free will help lure in sales prospects. The word FREE is still one of the most powerful words in the marketing lexicon, and providing something of interest

Even with pages offering free stuff, your objective remains converting sales prospects into paying customers. Only I’d urge you to learn a lesson the folks at Rovio obviously missed. Put yourself in the customer’s shoes, and balance selling efforts with an ability to actually enjoy the free item being offered. As for me, I’m now happily playing Segmation — a digital paint-by-numbers game that has the added attraction of being a San Diego-based company. And yes, I got started for free. Where have all the crises gone? By J. I have been attending the school board meetings to see how RUSD and Q supporters would manage these imminent crises. Purposefully using misinformation in an election to take money from taxpayers should be considered election fraud. We should remember what the progressives and their followers did here. There never was a cliff. There never was an imminent crisis they intended to deal with. They wanted more of your money to keep things comfortable for themselves, and they were willing to scare you with misinformation to get it. They didn’t care how their unethical tactics affected your budget; they were only focused on padding theirs. You need to remember this chicanery because See COMMENTARY page B5

Letters ,SLJ[LK VMĂ„ JPHSZ ZOV\SK ^LSJVTL YLZPKLU[Z PUW\[ I was particularly disturbed by a letter I read in the last issue of the Sentinel written by Doug Kafka, president of the San Diego Country Estates Association Board of Directors. I have not read the Davis-Sterling Act he refers to, but I kinda think he is using it as a shield. I have read the Brown Act, which may not apply for SDCE residents, but I would like to think that the SDCE Board would welcome all the input from its residents. Mr. Kafka states the way to communicate with his board is to come to the meetings or to join or form a committee. What if some of his "constituents" are physically limited, are working late, are busy raising a family, etc.? When one is elected to any position, whether it be on the federal level or the state level or any elected position in our small, rural town of Ramona, they should not run unless they have a business email address where their constituents can communicate with them. We were really happy with the turnout this year and hope to see the event continue to grow over the next few years. We are blessed to be from such a small town that shows such spirit and support for our high school programs. I read in the Sentinel that one board member suggested that a June election should be considered for the next bond measure because voter turnout is less in June elections. After numerous bond failures, some still don’t get it. We want the bureaucrats to work within their budget. They want to concentrate on outmaneuvering us in their next bond attempt.

Wine tasting at Woof’n Rose Winery is on a sheltered outdoor ‘Tasting Veranda which overlooks the Woof’n Rose vineyards and newly planted vineyards in the Ramona Valley. Surrounded by almost 180 degrees of mountain views, including Mt. Ramona Adult Softball's spring season opened Monday, with games starting March 9. Every year around this time, players of the long-standing sport get ready for the chance to be on that number one team in the league by the time the off season ends in the fall. “It will be a great season," said league president Jake Zoria and treasurer Michele Tamlyn. The teams play on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, and frequently the players' children cheer their parents on from the bleachers. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the scheduled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone information or on the internet Web site. The best way to verify postponement information is to attend the scheduled sale. If the Trustee is unable to convey title for any reason, the successful bidder’s sole and exclusive remedy shall be the return of monies paid to the Trustee and the successful bidder shall have no further recourse. are wrapped around the axel as bad as he is about something that isn’t even your issue. So now your beautiful day of wandering has turned into a day of wondering how you got into such a bad mood. You got there by picking up all the chips dropped by someone else. You have absorbed their drama and now it’s churning around in your head like it was theirs until they gave it to you. We all have a choice to pick up the chips or just leave them on the road. Sometimes you have to

decide to not take on the problems or issue of another person. Even with your family, there may be times when you just have to say no, just as there are the times when you need to be involved. Just remember you have a choice and control over when you will take on the problems and drama from others. So you can decide when your day goes from wandering to wondering what happened.
