Ramona Tea'd to address Common Core program Dr. Duke Pesta will be the speaker when Ramona Tea'd addresses the Common Core program at its meeting on Saturday, March 28. "Please join Ramona Tea’d for a special presentation exposing the truth about Common Core and the ongoing struggle to turn back its implementation," Ramona Tea'd member Darrell Beck stated in his announcement of the meeting. "Learn how Common Core is the latest and most comprehensive step by the left in their drive toward complete government control of our children’s education. Learn how Common Core threatens to further J

undermine, weaken and centralize public and private education in America." Pesta, an educator and lecturer, teaches English at the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh, and is academic director of Freedom Project Education. The meeting will be in Ramona Mainstage, 626 Main St. Doors will open at 11 a.m. and the program will begin at noon. Because seating is limited, attendees are advised to arrive early. Food and drinks will be available. For more information, see www.ramonatead. com.

Planners pointed out that similar overhead signs are in El Cajon and Old Town Temecula, and Piva said Ramona faces J

more challenges because its Main Street is a state highway. Even if Caltrans gives the nod, the project needs to be funded, he noted, and grants could be the answer. Piva said he made a presentation to the Ramona Community Foundation, which typically awards grants in the fall.

To receive approval, the applicant must go through a two-pronged process as required under the County Medical Marijuana Facility Ordinance, adopted in 2010 and amended in 2011. To operate the shop, the applicant must receive: 1. as outlined in the ordinance," Williams said in an email to the Sentinel. The lieutenant said the sheriff's department will consider comments and concerns from the public before issuance of a SPJLUZPUN JLY[PĂ„JH[L According to PDS, the applicant is proposing interior remodeling to create a storage/break room, YLZ[YVVT THUHNLY VMĂ„JL and dispensary/reception/safe room. Williams is also seeking the public's opinions on body-worn cameras for deputies. County supervisors recently voted to take

bids for cameras that can be worn on deputies' uniforms. Williams said the department must decide when the cameras should be on and when they should be turned off. "It's not going to be perfect," he said. "If you keep it on to catch everything, you're going to catch everything." Some at the meeting said the cameras will help protect deputies and reduce false complaints, and lead to more accountability on both sides — the public and law enforcement. Williams,

however, said that to run the cameras 24/7 will require tremendous data storage. The cost for the cameras and accessories is expected to be more than $1 million a year, not including the electronic storage, according to the county. "I think a lot of the burden is going to end up on the taxpayer," said Williams. He is seeking opinions from the community about the cameras. down near puddles and use his free hand to move the water, as if he was looking for something. They recognized him as a man who had stopped by the booth earlier and given an OTM donation. The girls noted the man was clearly distressed. After an unsuccessful search, he returned to the store before approaching the booth. He explained that he had dropped his wife’s wedding ring and asked if the troop members had seen it. They learned his wife was in the hospital that night and had given him her diamond wedding ring for safekeeping. It was lost. Then, to add salt to an open wound, the man’s phone had gone dead and he didn’t have means to contact his wife and let her know what had happened. Fortunately, Diane had her cell phone and offered it to him to make the call.

He told his wife about the missing ring and then returned the phone. The girls had received a donation from another customer earlier that evening asking them to give away a box of cookies to someone else in need. They asked him to select his favorite cookies to give to his wife, and the troop assured him they would keep their eyes open for the ring. There was a somber feeling at the close of the evening as the girls began to pack up the cookPLZ HUK [OL` [HSSPLK [OL WYVÄ[Z The missing ring lay heavy on the troop’s hearts. opened the wooden OTM donation box and removed the bills from inside to close the booth. Then, almost as if the pivotal climax of a heartwarming movie, they looked once more to make sure they had all the bills and coins. At the bottom of the box was a bright, shining wedding ring. “He must have had the ring in his pocket and dropped it in the box when he made his donation to Operation Thin Mint, Diane said. She quickly scanned the parking lot, but to no avail. She remembered overhearing him ask the girl who returned the shopping carts about the ring. But the girl informed Diane she had seen him leave, returning to the hospital to search the parking lot. “Mom, he used your phone, Gaetane reminded her.

Immediately, Diane hit redial and made contact with the man’s wife. Upon learning her ring was found, she expressed surprise and sincere gratitude. Unfortunately, she would not be able to contact her husband to return due to his phone being dead. Instead, the women worked out a plan to have a friend come by and pick up the ring. Within minutes, the friend arrived. Diane checked her ID and gave her the ring. The friend expressed tearful emotion, repeatedly thanking the girls for their honesty. She then offered the girls $100 as a reward. Diane declined the money, but the woman said that the ring’s owner had insisted. Diane again declined, but when the woman would not take no for an answer. The two agreed that if the money was

given as a donation to Operation Thin Mint, the girls would accept it. Everyone loved the idea. Speaking for her troop, Diane said, “They just wanted to do the right thing. There was never an expectation of receiving anything in return. The troop is excited that with the donation the military troops overseas will receive another 20 boxes of cookies this year. They said they want to publicly thank the couple for their generous donation and also for the opportunity to feel the spirit of Girl Scouting. “It’s about the girls and their community, said Diane. The troop discussed the event that had transpired, and they all agreed it was a blessing for Troop 8775 to be part of a “Ramona miracle. They agreed it was the best cookie booth sale ever.

Having trouble getting your horse to move? Does your back hurt when you load dishes in the bottom rack of the dishwasher? Are you tired of walking around, cleaning up after your dog? If you have any of these problems, students at Ramona Lutheran School may have the answers. The school held an invention and creative writing convention Friday afternoon, displaying students' stories and their innovations. Fourth-grader Garrett Rutherford played his "Plumber's Trumpet," a "cross between a trumpet and a cornet." Garrett said the instrument was made out of "the top of a two-liter bottle and a PVC pipe." Second-grader Theo Burchmore exhibited his "Poop Scooping Robot" by operating it to scoop up a toy car. It was a cleaner demonstration that way, noted his mom, Dorothy Burchmore. Theo said he created it to help people clean up after their dogs, so they wouldn't have to walk around. 0[ ^HZ [OL Ă„YZ[ [OPUN OL thought of," said his mom. Two Ramona artists — Judy Nachazel and Jolinda Marshall — will lead a talk titled "Art & the Artists" when the San Vicente Valley Club meets on Wednesday, March 25. The open-to-the-public luncheon meeting will be in San Vicente Resort, 24157 San Vicente Road, and will begin with check-in at 11 a.m. For reservations, call Maxine McNamara at 760-7886189 by Friday March 20. Nachazel, a California native and resident of Ramona for 32 years, studied art at Grossmont College and San Diego State University. She extended her studies through workshops with many noted artists. Working in pastels and acrylics, Nachazel paints what interests her. Her goal is to capture and

convey that interest to the viewer. She has taught pastel and given pastel demos and workshops throughout San Diego and Imperial counties and in Oregon. She has also served as a juror and given critiques. She is a past president and member of the Pastel Society of San Diego and the Ramona Art Guild. She is a co-founder of the

annual Ramona Open Studios Tour, now in its 12th year, and she is vice president of the Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Mural Project. She also serves as artists liaison for Ramona Friends of the Library and is president of the Ramona Pioneer Historical Society Board. In 2005, she was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Ramona Chamber of Commerce. Marshall’s background and education in glass comes from life itself, rather than through any formal art training. "I grew up in a house where there was original art on the walls and fresh ÅV^LYZ PU [OL ]HZLZ ZOL said. "Art was an offered and important elective." Her formal education focused around psychology and parapsychology.

She has a master's degree in psychology and has worked in counseling the majority of her adult life. "I would like to think that I bring the depth of that perspective to my

back to glass, this time focusing the majority of my artistic expression in the area of glass fusion. In addition, I have done several large scale mosaic projects, including

art — a wordless expression of the human condition," she said. "I owned a stained glass gallery many years ago in Northern California, where I learned and taught all the basics in stained and sandblasted glasswork. After raising our three children, I came

original glass tile mosaic work." Unlike the more familiar blown glass, fused glass is made by cutting different types and colors of glass and melting them together at about 1500 degrees Fahrenheit, said Marshall. "Often pieces are then

Among their interest groups are Book Marks, Bridge Marathon, Lunch Bunch, Friends of Ramona Library and Bunco. For membership information, contact McNamara. Scott Thomas Wilkinson 1986 – 2015 Scott Wilkinson, formerly Scott Gilmour, died early Friday morning, March 13, 2015, at his home in Ramona. Scott, 29, was a loving and devoted husband, son, and brother. He moved from his home state of Virginia to Ramona in August 2008, enjoying

the quiet country life along with his four dogs at first, and, more recently, two horses. Before coming to Ramona, Scott lived in Arlington, Virginia, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Marymount University and worked in Washington, D.C., in the public affairs and marketing departments at the National Association of Homebuilders and with The Hospitality and Information Service for Diplomats. In Ramona, Scott served as the Administrative Assistant of Ramona United Methodist Church from 2009-2011. From 20112013, he worked tirelessly to improve the lives of seniors at the Oakdale of La Mesa assisted living and memory care facility. He subsequently sought to launch his own company to help seniors and lovedones consider their assisted living options. He was also driven to write, working diligently on a novel for many months before his death. Scott made a loving, joyful home for his husband, Paul. He is also mourned by his parents, Tom and Jan Gilmour of Eugene, OR; grandparents, Chet and Betty Kean of Lafayette, CA; brother, David of Houston, TX; and sister, Beth of Virginia Beach, VA. Scott was a member of the Ramona United Methodist Church, almost never missing a worship service and being constantly loved by the close-knit church family he joined in 2008, which also mourns his loss. In his neighborhood, Scott was known for his love of animals, especially his dogs and then horses. Scott first leased and bravely rode a huge draft horse. He then acquired two beautiful mares, who also miss him terribly, along

with his adopted Belgian Shepherd mix, Midnight, who he affectionately called Mr. Bear; Rascal, a smaller mix; and Moose and Max, two fraternal Chihuahuas who Scott brought with him from Arlington to Ramona. The celebration of Scott’s life will be held Saturday, March 28, 2015, at 1 p.m. at Ramona United Methodist Church, 3394 Chapel Lane, Ramona. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Ramona United Methodist Church or to a program in which Scott’s mares will be cared for by FFA students learning horsemanship. For information on the fund, contact: cherishkricket@ gmail.com. Bonham Bros & Stewart Mortuary and Cremation Service is assisting the family. Robert “Bob” DeLong passed away peacefully January 26, 2015, with family and his dog by his side after a long battle with colon cancer. Bob was born August 10, 1925, in Kansas City, Missouri. He and his parents moved several times during his childhood during the Great Depression. Bob graduated from high school in Columbia, Missouri, and immediately joined the U.S. Marines as an 18 year-old volunteer. He rose to the rank of Corporal and, as a forward observer, he directed artillery fire for a 3-man artillery battery. He served proudly with the 3rd Marine Division in the invasions of Guam and later on the brutal 6-week battle for Iwo Jima. He actually saw firsthand the iconic flag-raising by the Marines on Mt. Suribachi from his own artillery battery position nearby. After the victory on Iwo Jima his unit returned to Guam to await further orders. On August 10, 1945, (his 20th birthday) while on guard duty while secretly training for the anticipated U.S. Military Invasion of the Japanese Mainland, he learned that Japan had surrendered that day after two atomic bombs were dropped 4-5 days earlier. He and the other surviving Iwo Jima

soldiers from the U.S. Marine 3rd, 4th and 5th Divisions are still honored annually with ceremonies at Camp Pendleton. After Bob returned stateside he joined his parents who had relocated to San Diego with the U.S. Postal Service while Bob was overseas. He met the love of his life, Betty, shortly thereafter. They were married three years later and went on to raise six (6) children together. Bob earned a BS Degree in Animal Husbandry from Cal Poly-SLO in 1949, becoming the first person in his family to go to college. After a brief sales stint with General Mills, he partnered with his father, Emory, in the egg business buying a small chicken ranch in El Cajon and later moved his family to Ramona, CA, where they built a newer, larger ranch known as “DeLong Rancho”. Bob (helped by his six children) also farmed several hundred acres of oat hay. Bob actively volunteered in Ramona activities for many years. He served both as a Member and as President of the Ramona Unified School District School Board. He coached and sponsored Ramona Little League teams for over a decade; was one of the founding members of the Ramona High Athletic Boosters Club; and was the cameraman for filming the Ramona High School football games for the school for 14 years. He spent many cold windy nights climbing up a shaky phone pole changing and shooting game film (before videotape). He was a timer at Ramona basketball games and track meets. Bob was a lector at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and a member of the El Cajon Lions Club. He remained a loyal Chargers and Padres fan “through thick and thin”.

under said Deed of Trust in the property situated in said County and state, and as more fully described in the above referenced Deed of Trust. Sale Date & Time: 04/17/2015 at 09:00 AM Sale Location: East County Regional Center, 250 E. Main Street, El Cajon, CA 92020 The street address and other common designation, if any, of the real property described above is purported to be: 1915 BLACK CANYON RD, RAMONA, CA 92065 The undersigned Trustee disclaims any liability for any incorrectness of the street address and other common designation, if any, shown herein. Said sale will be made in an “AS IS” condition, but without covenant or warranty, expressed or implied, regarding title, possession, or encumbrances, to pay the remaining principal sum of the note(s) secured by said Deed of Trust, with interest thereon, as provided in said note(s), advances, if any, under the terms of the Deed of Trust, estimated fees, charges and expenses of the Trustee and of the trusts created by said Deed of Trust, to-wit: $612,075.87 (Estimated) as of 03/05/2015. Accrued interest and additional advances, if any, will increase this figure prior to sale. It is possible that at the time of sale the opening bid may be less than the total indebtedness due. NOTICE TO POTENTIAL BIDDERS: If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a trustee auction. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made
