I mean, we talk in circles around what we mean in my country.â€? He agreed that the formality of French customs, hierarchy and protocol versus the more down-to-earth, informal "get the job done" attitude that he saw during the visits here and in Texas were what he found so refreshing. Mural Project board presented tentative plans for a mural of 1938 Ramona Turkey Queen Dottie Richardson on the east side of the Ramona Business Barn, 369 Main St. The mural would depict a

publicized photo of Richardson on a turkey and be painted in sepia tones, said Nachazel. "It is an iconic photo," she said. "It went all over the United States and in magazines. She was kind of a pin-up girl of the time. It will be an eye-catcher." The mural would say "Welcome to Ramona" and in smaller letters Richardson's name and turkey queen title. Nachazel displayed a portrait of Richardson as painted by Sake, the muralist proposed for the project. Members said they were pleased with the idea but they would like to see it superimposed on the building's wall before approving, so action was tabled. In another mural project, Nachazel showed a July 4, 1914, photo of downtown Ramona and said it is the scene for a proposed mural on the wall of Turkey Inn, 716 Main St. The board approved the scene with members Rob Lewallen and Chris Anderson recusing themselves because they are on the mural committee. Nachazel said they still have to fundraise and issue an artists call.

In other business, the board appointed resident Rex Gammon to a vacant seat on the board. Gammon, an electrical contractor, said he has a degree in architectural technology. His appointment will go to the county Board of Supervisors for approval. With the terms of Roberson, Anderson and Carol Close expiring, each was nominated to serve again. A longtime member, Roberson was the only one to decline, saying, "I'm going to take a rest." However, when it came to elec[PVU VM VMĂ„JLYZ [OL IVHYK JV\SK UV[ Ă„UK H JOHPY 3L^HSSLU ^HZ UVTPnated but said he will miss several upcoming meetings. Since the term of the vacant seat expires Sept. 25, Anderson asked 9VILYZVU PM OL ^V\SK Ă„SS [OH[ ZLH[ and remain chair until the end of the term, at which time Lewallen could become chair. Nature Conservancy to pay $1.1 million for easement The Nature Conservancy will pay Ramona Municipal Water District $1.1 million for an easement near Rangeland Road. Library unveils state-of-the-art technology center By KAREN BRAINARD Former Ramona resident and longtime library advocate Dick Wayman said he is humbled that the library's new state-ofthe-art technology center is named after him. Community loses a friend

amona lost a friend on Saturday. Angus Tobiason, 84, died at home with his family. Born in Chula Vista in 1930, the year after the Great Depression started, Angus moved with his family as his father "followed the work" before the Tobiasons settled in Ramona in 1939. Too young to Ä NO[ PU >VYSK >HY 00 OL ZLY]LK PU [OL < : Navy during the Korean War. He returned home to marry Sally, his wife of 58 years. They raised a family of six on the Tobiason property off Rosemont Lane. They have seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A Sentinel article two years ago described Angus as "old school Ramona." He lived in Ramona, worked in Ramona, volunteered in Ramona, and served 24 years on the planning group. After a stint as a farmer, he and his brother, Art, started Tobiason Brothers Excavating. Their heavy equipment and JVU[YHJ[PUN Ä YT I\PS[ O\UKYLKZ VM OV\ZL pads, laid sewer lines, did the groundwork for apartment complexes, graded numerous projects and paved many roads. He may have tired in the past year, but he never retired. And before he left the planning group, he exacted a promise from its members and others — through gentle and not so gentle prodding — that the mess Santa Maria Creek bed had become would be cleared. And it was. It's now up to us to keep it that way. Family, friends and community were everything to Angus. If he met you, he was your friend. He loved children, and he believed they should be safe and active. He worked with others to create and maintain Ramona Junior Fairgrounds, he cheered at youth sporting events, he volunteered at schools and with the Ramona volunteer Ä YL KLWHY[TLU[ ^OLU P[ L_PZ[LK HUK OL was among the town's most vocal boosters. A modest man, he accomplished much — and it didn't matter who received the credit. Ramona lost one of its best friends Saturday. We share his family's sorrow.

Letters Political climate change created water shortage So, here we are again. Californians facing yet another catastrophic "shortage" of sorts. Last time electricity, now again, water. We are told that the survival of a nonnative invasive minnow, 10 or so, and a few steelhead trout, are more important than the survival of farmers and residents. Really? In 2013 alone, the State of California wasted 800,000 acre feet of water to acJVTTVKH[L [OLZL Ă„ ZOPLZ ^OPSL THU` California farmers lost their income/ properties. And to date, about 500,000 acres of prime California farmland lays dormant because of the water restrictions forced upon us by the environmentalists and the California state government. The water wasted in 2013, to "save" the non-native invasive minnows and a few trout, would be enough to supply San Diego County Water Authority customers with water for more than a year and a half. On top of that, at least 10% of the total water usage in California is wasted through leaking or outdated water delivery systems that belong to the water authority and local water districts. Plus, it takes many years and many millions of environmental study dollars to even think about building/improving water storage facilities. For the year 2014, residents supplied by the San Diego Water Authority used LESS water than they did in 1990, even though

the population increased by 30% in those years. Starting to see a trend here? We were told in the past to conserve electricity. We did, and were rewarded with higher electric costs. We were told many times to conserve water. We did, and were rewarded with higher water bills. Now we are going to be forced, by draconian policies, to reduce water consumption by another 25-36%, depending VU ^OLYL `V\ SP]L VY IL Ä ULK HUK or have our water shut off. And how is Governor Brown going to enforce these regulations? Well, by forcing the local water districts to "monitor" water use by the citizens, no doubt requiring higher "fees" to do so. California Representative Tom McClintock has been working tirelessly to stop the state government from implementing these measures, and I suggest you give him your support. Gov. Jerry Brown tries to convince us our water "shortage" is due to "climate change." I couldn't agree more — except it is "political climate change" that has created our water "shortage." 1948 – 2015 Michael passed away at his home on Friday, April 24, 2015.

Michael participated in the Unyeway Work Program in janitorial services and the nursery here in Ramona for over 25 years. He also participated in Unyeway’s Day Program in Lakeside. He was an avid bowler and participated in a number of Special Olympic Meets in San Diego County. Michael is survived by his mother, Pearl Aiello, and brother, Thomas Aiello. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Fred Aiello, and his older brother, Robert Aiello. There will be a Memorial Service in Michael’s honor at Bonham Bros & Stewart
