44th Annual Ramona Junior Fair ends with livestock auction Aug. 1 By MAUREEN ROBERTSON Packing the Ramona junior fairgrounds this week are 4-H and Future Farmers of America youngsters with their animals, projects, families and supporters as the 44th Annual Ramona Junior Fair & Livestock Auction kicks into full gear. The fair started Saturday, July 25, and concludes with the livestock auction this Saturday at 1 p.m. at the fairgrounds at 431 Aqua Lane. Admission and parking are free. Youngsters from throughout the region are participating. Among them are 4-H, FFA and even a few Grange members from Ramona, Poway, Julian, Valley Center, Warner Springs, Fallbrook, Olivenhain, San Pasqual, Alpine, Escondido, Mountain Empire, Lakeside and San Pasqual. They have been reaching out to families, friends and businesses in hopes of receiving high bids for their auction entries. Kaylin vanTol of Ramona is the 4-H representative on the junior fair board, and Sarah Robertson of Poway FFA is the FFA representative. This year’s fair showcases 239 exhibitors. The fair administrator is Mary Martineau, a former Ramona 4-H’er and Julian FFA member who for the past seven years has taught agriculture at Poway High School. Under her tutelage, the agriculture pro-
gram at Poway High has grown “by leaps and bounds,” said Robby Storton, president of the Ramona Junior Fair Board. Of the 185 students in Martineau’s classes, 65 are active FFA members, and 20 are participating in the Ramona Junior Fair. “Her kids did well at Del Mar (San Diego County Fair), and they’ll do well here,” said Storton. “The Poway community would do well to come up to the auction and support her and their kids.” “We work really hard on these projects through the year,” said Robertson. “...The more people who come to watch, the more rewarding and exciting it is, and they can see what we’ve been doing.” =HU;VS PU OLY LPNO[O HUK ÄUHS `LHY PU 4-H, agreed, commenting on how hard all of the exhibitors work. “The projects don’t start now,” she said. “Some start in September and some in early February. A highlight for those with animals is the auction. VanTol, a recent high school graduate planning to attend an out-ofstate college, said her auction proceeds have gone into her college fund. Going to auction on Saturday are swine, rabbits, goats, chickens, sheep, veal, turkey, dairy cattle and beef. Bidders will be treated to dinner midway through the auction. For a complete schedule of the week’s events and more information about the junior fair, see ramonajuniorfair.com.

Every story has at least two sides The Confederate battle Ă…HN HUK TVYL By W.R. REYNOLDS I’m sure most of you have heard the phrase “To the victor goes the spoils.â€? But did you ever consider that the victor also gets to write the history books? Has anyone ever done some REAL reading, other than that which is considered to be approved in our government indoctrination centers? Excuse me, I meant to say public schools and most colleges. 0 OH]L ZLLU ZVTL WYVZ HUK JVUZ VU [OL Ă…HN JVU[YVversy in this paper and others of late. Most are pretty narrow-minded with a sprinkling of better informed rebuttals. I am going to suggest some reading that could make you sit up and say, “I never thought of it that way, hmmmmm.â€? Do you dare open your mind to the other fellow’s point of view? Read in the order below and consider this a challenge. First up is an article on the current Confederate Battle Flag controversy written by Chuck Baldwin. Baldwin is a pastor, radio host and was the presidential nominee of the Constitution Party for the 2008 election cycle. @V\ JHU Ă„UK [OL HY[PJSL I` NVPUN [V .VVNSL HUK typing The Confederate Flag Needs To Be Raised, Not 3V^LYLK I` *O\JR )HSK^PU 0[ÂťZ UV[ Q\Z[ HIV\[ [OL Ă…HN but goes into the real causes of the Civil War and why it really WASN’T a civil war. I am not quite all the way through on this one yet, but have read most of it. Easy to read, it will take you on a journey of the thought process of the Founding Fathers in their search for a better way of governance than what they had been living under. It also covers what went wrong and who was responsible and when. This may surprise you. The book is titled “Compact of the Republic, the League of States and the Constitution,â€? By David Benner. This book should be taught in every high school civics/government class. Do they even teach that anymore? Many end notes if you want to look for the original documents and letters. Time for a paradigm shift. The whole left, center, right or liberal, moderate, conservative memem if you prefer, that we use today could stand some revamping. Right or left of what? Just exactly WHERE is the center and what should it be? A short 99-page book titled “Arguing for the Constitution,â€? by Steven E. Maikoski clearly illustrates why we have been doing it wrong all these years — all the way back to the Founders. Time for a new initial point. Now, for the ultimate challenge and to really get a feel for the Southern side of things, read “The South Was Right!â€? by James Ronald Kennedy and Walter Donald Kennedy. I seriously doubt that they are close relations to the Massachusetts Kennedys. This book will See COMMENTARY page 5

What 4-H is all about Hello. My name is Kaylin vanTol and [OPZ ^PSS IL T` LPNO[O HUK ÄUHS `LHY WHYticipating in 4-H. In the fall, I will be attending Dordt College majoring in nursing. I want to thank you for all your support throughout my years in 4-H. 9LÅLJ[PUN VU T` `LHYZ H[ [OL 9HTVUH Junior Fair, my senses are sparked with feelings of excitement. I love to see all of the barn displays with their colorful decorations. Hearing the cows moo and the pigs squeal in the morning sends shivers down my spine. The taste of a warm breakfast burrito, with its enormous amounts of sausage and bacon causes my mouth to water. The smell of the freshly laid shavings when L_OPIP[VYZ OH]L ÄUPZOLK JSLHUPUN [OLPY pens, and the touch of a freshly sheared lamb all bring a smile to my face. Yet, it's not just the feeling of an animal. It’s also the feeling I have when I am in the show ring and the judge is determining the winner. No matter if I win or lose, I will always leave that show ring with more knowledge than any textbook could teach — and that is what 4-H is all about. J

This year I will be bringing two pigs to the tech savvy fair. Their names are Roxy and Tickle. Roxy and Tickle will be weighing in around 210 pounds. They may be a bit on the lighter side of the scale, but I assure you they will be full of delicious sausage, bacon and ham that will satisfy your taste buds. I work with Roxy and Tickle daily, exercising, cleaning and feeding them so that when it is their turn in the ring, they will be ready. Yet, the most important day of the week is Auction Day, Saturday, Aug. 1st. Buyers check-in begins at 11 a.m. and the auction starts at 1 p.m. The auction order is swine, rabbits, goats, chickens and sheep. Then there will be a break for a buyer’s dinner. Following the dinner, veal, turkey and beef will be auctioned off. I hope to see you there! If you have any questions concerning my pigs, myself or the fair, feel free to contact me at 1-760-560-8023. Thank you so much for taking time to read this letter, and I hope you will be interested in bidding on my pigs. Kaylin vanTol Ramona

They installed registers in the ceiling of the cafeteria, put ductwork in the crawl space above, fed power to outside outlets, and cemented poles outside to secure the needed fencing to protect the new units. Hurricane Fence installed the fencing surrounding the units. Next will be sheet metal work to put a lid over the units, and the district will run a gas line to the new heaters. Electricity powers the air conditioning, and gas will power the heat, said Anderson, who recalls attending summer dances in the multipurpose room in the 1970s. Anderson estimated that the district paid about $12,000 for the work it KPK /HK HU V\[ZPKL Ă„YT done all of the work, it would have cost about $30,000, he said.

Six teens to attempt swim from Catalina to Long Beach By JOE NAIMAN If a group of Ramona teenagers is successful Aug. 4, a record set by six other teens this month won’t be the record for long. On July 17, six teenage boys completed a 21-mile relay swim from Catalina Island to Long Beach. No six-person team of males under 20 had ever completed that swim before, so their time of 8:04 is the record. “We’re going to try to beat their record,” said 17-year-old Bryan Larson, a Ramona High School incoming senior who is spearheading the Ramona effort.
The relay challenge had existed before the six boys PU 1\S` ILJHTL [OL ÄYZ[ Z\Jcessful teenagers. Larson learned about it in January. “It would be kind of fun to do it,” he said. Larson is a member of Ramona High School’s swim team and also the Ramona Swim Team club program, both of which are coached by Jolyn Yanez. The relay effort is through the Ramona Swim Team entity, and Larson and Yanez put together a team of six swimmers. Quintin LaRosa, 19, is the only one of the six who is no longer in high school. Ethan Blackburn, Jacob Powers, Spencer Schwe-
gler and Trevor White are the other four participants. “A lot of kids were up for it,” Larson said, noting that the team also includes two alternates. Jocelyn Schwegler is the only female and has also already graduated from high school. Jacob Pradels is expected to be on the Bulldogs’ swim team next year. The team began training in May and trains two to three times a week at La Jolla Cove. Most of the training sessions have been three miles, although some have been four miles. During the actual swim from Catalina to Long Beach, the swimmers will
cover the distance in onehour increments before the next relay participant takes over. The group spent July 4 competing in the Coronado Rough Water Swim and also competed in a Seal Beach ocean swim in late June. Larson’s mother, Tammy, agreed to be in charge of fundraising. “We’ve just had a lot of help from everybody, and it’s been awesome,” she said. “We’ve had so much support from the community.” More than $6,000 has been raised to allow for TH[JOPUN V\[Ä[Z “If we’re going to do this, we’re going to do this
Six Ramona High School athletes who graduated in June received 2015 Athletic Awards from the school. Each of the school’s head coaches and the school principal had a vote in the selection process. As the school’s athletic director, Damon Baldwin, who also is head football coach, only had one vote, as did the coaches who are head coaches for multiple programs. A total of 20 votes were cast. The male Athlete of the Year award
went to Isaiah Spieker and the female Athlete of the Year went to Danielle Vizcarra. Spieker was on Ramona’s cross country varsity for four years, on the basketball varsity for two seasons and on the volleyball varsity team for three years. Vizcarra played four years of varsity soccer, two years of varsity tennis and two years of varsity lacrosse for the Bulldogs. The Bulldog Athlete of the Year recognizes traits other than athletic achievement. The male Bulldog Athlete of the Year was Wyatt Scott and
The swimmers are expecting conditions to be colder than the temperature to which they are accustomed. Ramona High School’s pool is heated to 82 degrees. The ocean is expected to be between 66 and 68 degrees. “I think it will be really cool to get the world record for it, and I think our team’s capable of doing it,” Bryan Larson said.

Chappell, husband and wife as community property with right of survivorship Recorded: 10/7/2008 as Instrument No. 2008-0527388 of Official Records in the office of the Recorder of SAN DIEGO County, California; Date of Sale: 8/17/2015 at 10:30AM Place of Sale: At the front entrance to the building located at 321 N. Nevada Street Oceanside, California 92054 Amount of accrued balance and other charges: $214,101.03 The purported property address is: 2239 BLACK CANYON ROAD #61, RAMONA, CA 92065 Assessor’s Parcel No. 279-13139-11 NOTICE TO POTENTIAL BIDDERS: If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a trustee auction. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION CONCERNING TRUSTEE’S SALE: This property was the subject of a lawsuit captioned Oak Tree Ranch v. Doka and Gloria Chappell, Case No. 37-2014-00028617-CL-UD-CTL (San Diego County Superior Court) . The suit was brought by Oak Tree Ranch (“Oak Tree), which owns and manages the mobile home park on which the property is located. On or about August 25, 2014, Oak Tree sued to evict the occupants and Champion Mortgage Company (“Champion), the foreclosing beneficiary, for unlawful detainer and nonpayment of rent. On September 22, 2014, Champion sold the
property at a foreclosure sale. That foreclosure sale was later rescinded, and the unlawful detainer action was dismissed. To Champion’s and Quality Loan Service Corporation’s knowledge, there is no litigation pending as of the date this Notice of Sale is recorded. Upon information and belief, however, Oak Tree maintains that Champion’s interest in the property has been terminated, including for nonpayment of rent, and alleges that Champion lacks authority to conduct the foreclosure sale. Champion disputes these contentions. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this Notice of Sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call 888-988-6736 for information regarding the trustee’s sale or visit this Internet Web site http:// www.qualityloan.com , using the file number assigned to this foreclosure by the trustee: CA-15662439-HL . Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the scheduled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone information or on the Internet Web site. The best way to verify postponement information is to attend the scheduled sale. The undersigned trustee disclaims any liability for any incorrectness of the property address or other common designation, if any, shown herein. If no street address or other common designation is shown, directions to the location of the property may be obtained by sending a written request to the beneficiary within 10 days of the date of first publication of this Notice of Sale. If the trustee is unable to convey title for any reason, the successful bidder’s sole and exclusive remedy shall be the return of monies paid to the trustee, and the successful bidder shall have no further recourse. If the sale is set aside for any reason, the Purchaser at the sale shall be entitled only to a return of the deposit paid. The Purchaser shall have no further recourse against the mortgagor, the mortgagee, or the mortgagee’s attorney. If you have previously been discharged through bankruptcy, you may have been released of personal liability for this loan in which case this letter is intended to exercise the note holders right’s against the real property only.
