Kuenstler learned the craft from his father, a professional photographer. He began shooting landscapes with his wife, Suzi, in the early 1980s and had OPZ ÄYZ[ L_OPIP[PVU PU :HU Diego in 1982. His work was also featured in the Olde Ramona Hotel Gal-
lery at 845 Main St. in the spring of 2014. Several of Kuenstler’s eye-catching Ramona photos have been enlarged and printed on canvas, including the iconic Hope Street mailboxes pictured above. With an eye for history and nostalgia, Kuenstler’s photos also include the western ghost town of Bodie. Though he started shooting mostly in black and
white photographs using a 4X5-view camera, as camera technology advanced he switched to a digital DSLR and works almost exclusively now in color. The show will hang in the library at 1275 Main St. through November. In addition to photography, Kuenstler is a seasoned chess player and hosts the library’s weekly chess group on Tuesday afternoons at 3.

Tournament coordinator was Pamela Starmack, a Ramona resident and “friend of our golf team,â€? said Ramona High golf coach Michael Gainey. “She wanted to give some youth the opportunity to participate in an event ILULĂ„[PUN H NYLH[ JH\ZL Although the weather was very hot that day, our players had a great time and also had the opportunity to play with one of our many great PGA professionals in San Diego,â€? said Gainey. Glotfelty and Stickney have been getting a lot of playing time this fall as it is Ramona High’s girls golf season. The boys golf team competes in the spring. The Bulldog girls hosted Oceanside in a league meet at San Vicente Golf Resort on Thursday, Oct. 1, but were defeated in the 249-271 score. Glotfelty had the low score for the team with a 47, followed by Lucy Conrad with a 49 and Stickney with a 52. The other contributing
scores were in the low 60s. Ramona traveled to Oceanside on Sept. 28 for a match that had been rescheduled due to rain. Although Ramona lost in the 244-265 match, the team score was the lowest of the season, said Gainey. ¸;OL WSH`LYZ HYL Ă„UHSS` getting settled into their games and are showing signs of improvement,â€? the coach said. Glotfelty posted a 43. Also contributing to the team score were: Conrad, 51; Hayley Brinker, 53; Kourtney Burger, 58; and Carter Flick, 60. In a Sept. 24 league meet, Ramona lost to Valley Center at its home course, Woods Valley, by just 5 strokes, 276-281. Contributing to the team score were: Brinker, 50; Conrad, 54; Flick, 55; and Stickney and Jessa Brown, 60. The Bulldog girls were scheduled to play a rescheduled non-league match against Steele Canyon at San Vicente on Oct. 5, and league matches on the road against Mission Vista Oct. 6 and Orange Glen Oct. 8.

served on chamber committees for the rodeo, the fair, scholarships and Citizen of the Year. Outside of the chamber, I have served as president of the Boys and Girls Club of Ramona, was a Rotarian and currently I am a member of the Design and Review Board and the Cemetery Board. As a businessman, I received the Southern California Grocer of the Year award. Having served as a chamber board member in the past, I understand the commitment required to serve. Ramona is a great community to live and work in and I will continue being involved in areas that encourage a strong business climate and a close knit community atmosphere. D H BILLICK Passionate about Ramona’s growth and public presentation. The greatest thing we can do in this life is to help others succeed at their passions and to leave everything we touch better than when we found it. CHARLIE KOEHLER My wife and I moved to Ramona in ^OLU ^L IV\NO[ V\Y ÄYZ[ OVTL VU the west side of town. In 2013, we moved to the east end of town where we now own La Finquita Winery and Vineyard. Over the last two years as business owners we have become more involved with the Ramona Chamber of Commerce where I have been part of the Economic Development Committee. I am running for a position on the Chamber of Commerce Board so that I can continue to help Ramona grow local businesses, economy and realize Ramona’s great potential. I truly see Ramona as a hidden gem that needs to be revealed and shared with the greater San Diego area and beyond WAYNE MILLER My wife and I moved to Ramona in 1997. I was the TDS Sweepstakes Jeep Chairman for giving away a 2012 Jeep that Chrysler donated to TDS to help raise monies to keep public lands open for recreational use. I feel that with my many years of owning businesses along with the event organization skills that I have acquired over the years, I would be a great asset to the Ramona Chamber of Commerce. HEIDI SAM I remember the days when Ramona meant a place we drove to for the Ramona Livestock Auction, or to drive through to get to Julian or Ranchita, where family lived. I had no idea at that time of my life that I would eventually be living in Ramona. I have lived in Ramona for 28-plus years and was already a part of its business community. For 42 years I was an owner operator of my family’s soft drink and snack vending company in which Ramona was one of many of my territories. My business background has given me the opportunity to work with all types of businesses and business owners, which has given me a great understanding of the needs of small business owners. I also have always had exemplary customer service skill set that has also given me the desire to become a volunteer for the Ramona Chamber of Commerce for which I have been a member under my present caYLLY HZ HU PUKLWLUKLU[ (ÅHJ HNLU[ ZPUJL 2010. pet of the week Harry Pawter, a 1-yearold American Staffordshire Terrier mix, is looking for a new best friend. He was found as a stray and a Good Samaritan cared for him for a few days before bringing him to our shelter. During this time, he met a smaller dog and a young child and did well with both. He was friendly, social and sweet. He has been on a social walk with another large dog and is very playful with her. His caregivers describe him as an outgoing guy who would do best with an active family. He would love to find a family who will encourage positive training techniques to ensure he stays a happy, well-mannered pup. Harry Pawter is available for adoption at San Diego Humane Society’s Oceanside Campus at 2905 San Luis rey road. To learn more about making him part of your family, please call (760) 757-4357.

Barona museum invites children to learn the art of pastels
The Barona Cultural Center & Museum invites children to learn how to make their own pastels in an upcoming Native American Science seminar. Part of the San Diego Museum Council “Kids Free in October” and ScholarShare Steam Activity program, the hands-on class will be held on Saturday, Oct. 10, and again on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 1 to 4 p.m. For thousands of years, the Kumeyaay/Diegueño people’s knowledge of earth pigments allowed them to derive natural paints for rock art, body painting and decoration. By exploring the science behind the Native American tradition of creating natural paints, children will learn how to make their own earth pigment pastels in what promises to be a fun and informative class led by instructors Stan Rodriguez of the Santa Ysabel Band of Diegueño Indians and Martha Rodriguez of San Jose de la Zorra. The workshop is open to children ages 7 to 17 and will take place in the Community Center adjacent to the Barona Museum. Adult chaperones are required. The event is free and class sizes are limited. RSVP by calling 619-4437003, extension 219, to guarantee a spot.

RAMONA HOMES & REAL ESTATE Selling your home? How to get buyers in the front door (StatePoint) Looking to sell your home? Then improve its curb appeal. That’s the advice of realtors who say that many home buyers won’t even get out of their cars unless they like the way the house looks from the street. “Today, buyers can be choosy. Overgrown bushes, peeling paint or faded shutters are enough to stop some people from even getting out of the car,” says real estate agent Joanne MeredithNolan. How do you make sure that your home isn’t passed by? According to Fypon, a polyurethane manufacturer, the Three C’s of Curb Appeal are Clean, Clutterfree and Colorful. Experts say that to achieve those goals it’s helpful to take a “top down” approach. Start with the roof. Is it in good shape, clean and colorful? Does it complement the style of your home? If a new roof is in your future, consider a polymer slate or ZOHRL YVVÄUN WYVK\J[ 6MMLYLK PU standard colors and a multitude
of color blends, these hardworkPUN YVVMZ HYL PTWHJ[ HUK ÄYL resistant. Working your way down the home, make sure the siding, shutters and trim are in good shape, making these upgrades before putting your house on the market. “No buyer wants to look at H OVTL HUK [OPUR [OH[ [OL ÄYZ[ thing he or she will have to do is paint, or replace rotting wood trim,” says Meredith-Nolan. “Low-maintenance products like ]PU`S VY ÄILY JLTLU[ ZPKPUN HUK polyurethane trim pieces look great and have salability that can be passed on to buyers who don’t want the hassles of long-term maintenance.” Other improvements to consider for beauty and functionality include vinyl windows and an updated porch balustrade system, which can offer clean lines and make a property really seem to pop. For a clean, clutter-free exterior, power wash the driveway and
walkways, trim back overgrown shrubbery and put away the yard art. Add pops of color around the outside, like new shutters, a fresh coat of paint on the front door HUK ÅV^LYZ PU WV[Z HUK ^PUKV^ boxes. *VUZPKLY H ÄILYNSHZZ KVVY [V PTWYV]L [OL SVVR HUK LULYN` LMÄciency of your front entry. Attractive accessories like decorative glass doorlites and sidelites can boost curb appeal and increase light in your foyer. For a free guide to adding topdown color and products to the home, visit www.fypon.com/design/. “If you want to get buyers to take your house seriously, spend time to get them through the front door,” says Tom Kabat, a real estate sales agent for 16 years. “It takes just seconds for a prospective buyer to either connect with or reject your home based on its curb appeal.
