Learn about these loveable creatures on an excursion to the Panda Center. You may even have a chance to hug a panda.

Lhasa, Tibet Shangri-La Lhasa Fly to Lhasa and take time to become acclimatized to the altitude. Lhasa is home to the Tibetan, Han, and Hui people. Visit the 7th century Potala Palace, the architectural wonder that dominates the city, which you can see from your hotel. Tour the immense Jokhang Temple, also dating from the 600’s and now the most celebrated temple in Tibet. Encounter pilgrims making their way along Barkhor Street surrounding the temple. Venture to the city outskirts to the Drepung Monastery, one of the three great teaching monasteries, and a former home to several Dalai Lamas. Continue to the Sera Monastery, dedicated to the Yellow Hat Sect of Buddhism. It is also an important monastic university, where you may have an opportunity to catch a glimpse of one of its famous debate sessions.

Gyantse, Tibet Gyantse Hotel Admire stunning mountain views on your journey to Xigatse today. You’ll cross the Kambala Pass, which at over 15,000 feet above sea level offers stupendous views of Yamdrok Lake, the most beautiful lake in Tibet. On your way through Karo La Pass you’ll stop for a chance to view the famous Mt. Noijin Kangsang glacier. In Gyantse, visit the Phalkor Monastery and the giant architectural monument of the city, Kumbum Pagoda.

Xigatse Xigatze Hotel The second largest city in Tibet, Xigatse is home to the celebrated Tashi Lhunpo Monastery. The monastery was built in 1447 at the time of the first Dalai Lama and is the seat of the Panchen Lama.
