Okanagan Volleyball Camps Summer camps are a fun way to improve your skills and get ready for volleyball season in the fall! All camps will be held at: George Elliot Gym Cost: $130 per participant Tuesday to Friday (4 days) Participants registering by June22nd July 3-6, 9:00am-noon will receive a camp t-shirt

Fundamentals Camp (entering Grade 5 to 8)

Code: 0718.113 Players will receive expert instruction in basic fundamentals of all volleyball skills and the opportunity for game play each day.

Intermediate Camp (entering Grade 8 to 10)

Code: 0718.114 Intended for players looking to improve on their basic individual skills as well as learning higher level team strategy and game play.

Advanced Camp (entering Grade 10 to 12)

Code: 0718.115 Intended for players with previous high school and club level volleyball experience. Specialized training given for each position.

Swimming Lessons A Partnership with YMCA

The skatepark has been redeveloped to include a stair set, rails, an A-frame, quarter pipes, a free-floating quarter pipe, boxes and hubbas.

Skateboard & Scooter Camp A great way to get acquainted with our skatepark’s newest features! Swalwell Park 9:00am-4:00pm Cost: $230 per person 5 days July 30-Aug 3 (Mon-Fri) Code: 0818.118 At this Evolve Camp, participants will improve fundamental skills like balance and coordination, while finding their style on their board. Campers also participate in traditional camp programming and other sports daily, to get a well-rounded summer experience. In YMCA aquatics programs, children learn to be safe around water and feel the sense of accomplishment that comes with learning something new. Youth progressive swimming uses a problem-solving, guideddiscovery teaching approach in a positive, caring environment. Accessing the YMCA swim programs in our community is a wonderful opportunity for our children to learn the life skill of swimming right here in our lakes where they spend their summers. Lessons are offered in Oyama (Wood Lake– Oyama Hall Beach) and Okanagan Centre ( Okanagan Lake—Pebble Beach). Class size is limited so register early.

Bobbers & Floaters (1st & 2nd Preschool Level) This combined class will orient your preschooler to the water, introduce elementary movements and skills. Bobbers - bobs, front & back floats Floaters - front floats, back floats, glides & a 3-metre swim without assistance.

Otters Otters orient the beginner to water, assist him or her to experience the buoyant qualities of water, introduce elementary movement skills, develop comfort and confidence in the water and offer an enjoyable experience.

Gliders & Divers (3rd & 4th Preschool Level) Your preschooler will further develop swimming abilities using arm & leg action & surface support Gliders—5-metre endurance swim Divers—introduction to side breathing, 10-metre endurance swim.

Otter/Seal Seals improve front and back glides, introduce rollovers and increase endurance to 10 metres.

Star 1 & 2 These combined levels will teach Lifesaving Society Rookie 1st Aid & H2-O Proficiency. Your child will develop their front and back crawl. Star 1—elementary back stroke & work toward a 75 metre endurance swim. Star 2—breast stroke & work toward a 150 metre endurance swim.

Surfers & Dippers (5th & 6th Preschool Level) Challenges your preschooler in front & back swims with more advanced arm movement, surface support & entries. Surfers—20-metre endurance swim Dippers—25-metre endurance swim

Dolphin Dolphins build on previous learning, introduce front crawl, deep water skills and increase endurance to 25 metres.

$55 —10 classes (Mon-Fri for 2 weeks)

Dolphin/Swimmer Swimmers build on previous skills in deep water, develop proper techniques of the front crawl stroke, introduce the back crawl and develop the individual’s ability to swim a distance of 50 metres.

Tennis Camps

Mad Science Camp

(Ages 6 to 16)

(Grades 3 to 6)

A five day camp that teaches the rules, court etiquette, serving, singles and doubles play, scoring, backhand and forehand. Tennis balls will be provided. Just bring your racquet, running shoes (no sandals), water bottle, sun protection and enthusiasm. For double the fun, sign up for both camps!

A fun-filled camp is waiting to capture your child’s imagination through amazing experiments and demonstrations covering all areas of science. Endless opportunities to discover the world around them with hands-on activities in biology, chemistry, ecology and physics. Activities include rocket ship building, learning about buoyancy with a boat-building competition, discovering the microscopic world around them, capturing, collecting and preserving insects, dissections, making giant bubbles, ice cream, gak, elephant toothpaste and countless other chemistry experiments—with a few explosions along the way.

Soccer Camps

Spend two weeks “acting out” this summer!

All soccer camps take place at the Beasley Park Soccer Fields (3450 Woodsdale Road). A t-shirt is provided for each participant.

This pre-teen summer day camp will help participants gain a foundation in acting and playmaking through a series of engaging games and exercises. Students will explore the care and use of their voices and bodies for theatrical application, acting technique, and improvisational skills. The intensive will culminate in a play on the final evening that the students have created themselves!

Little Kickers (Ages 4-5) This camp runs 90 minutes each day. Every child is given an opportunity to participate and discover what a great game soccer can be. Fun games & activities will help kids learn the basic skills of kicking, dribbling & passing. They will also learn some of the simple rules of mini soccer by playing 3-on-3 games. Treats on the last day of camp. July 9-13

Mini Soccer (Ages 6-10)

Summer Fun with a Pocketknife

Skill improvement & fun will be the focus of this week-long morning camp. All levels of ability will be challenged, from beginners to the experienced player. Team & individual instruction is provided by a number of expert coaches. No previous soccer experience necessary, though playing mini soccer is certainly an asset. Enjoy a mini world cup competition complete with a BBQ on the last day of class. Mon-Fri

(Ages 9-12) Learn how to safely use a pocketknife to produce simply whittled toys for themselves and others and have fun in the process!

This camp begins with demonstration and instruction, then hands-on making of projects with assistance. All materials and tools are provided. Students will learn basic knife handling and safety, and how to sharpen a knife and keep it sharp. Over the 5 days students will make their own twig pen that really writes, a rubber band shooter, slip bark wooden whistles, a boomerang, a flying non-electric helicopter, hiking staff, and a space shuttle type airplane that really flies.

Soccer Skills (Ages 8-12) This half-day soccer camp builds in the fun of summer. Skills and drills are mixed in with your favorite soccer games; World Cup, Star Wars and fun games of Head It-Catch It to name a few. To make each day complete there is also time to enjoy water games and Capture the Flag to really enjoy all things summer at Beasley Park has to offer. BBQ and prizes on the last day. Mon-Fri

Learn to tone, strengthen, challenge and lengthen your body at this Basic Barre & Stretch class. Barre is inspired by micro movements from ballet, Pilates & strength based fitness classes.
