THIS IS NO ORDINARY PLACE
YOUR UNIVERSITY YEARS WILL DEFINE THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. DON’T LET THEM BE TYPICAL. THRIVE in a rigorous academic program
that will challenge you how to think, not what to think. Know your professors and have the opportunity to PLAY A BIGGER ROLE in a smaller class environment.
EXPAND YOUR HORIZONS by getting immersed in
hands-on experiences both inside and outside the classroom. Embrace your INDIVIDUALITY while creating a space where you will belong.
STEP OUTSIDE and have access to all the amenities of a big city while
being immersed in a clean, natural environment that offers you unparalleled recreational activities.

WELCOME TO THE ORILLIA CAMPUS In 2006, the Lakehead experience expanded to Central Ontario’s beautiful cottage country, with the opening of its campus in the City of Orillia. Orillia is located within Simcoe County and in the heart of Ontario’s Lake Country. The campus has become known for its welcoming atmosphere, innovative programs, and small, friendly community – making it one of the greatest places to learn in the country. The entire campus is fully certified as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) facility, complete with an academic building (Simcoe Hall), residence, bookstore, and open-style cafeteria. The environmental features include a green roof, geothermal energy source, water collection ponds, natural lighting, and bright, open spaces. The Orillia campus also has a smaller, heritage downtown Orillia location, adjacent to the City’s vibrant main street and just a few blocks from the Port of Orillia and Lake Couchiching. As a student at the Orillia campus, you will benefit from the full Lakehead experience. Walking down the halls, you will know your classmates and become part of something truly different. As a young and growing campus, you will play an important role in shaping student life at the Orillia campus.

UNIVERSITY LINGO EXPLAINED You may be familiar with some university lingo by now, but if you are still wondering, here’s some common terms used that will be helpful as you explore program options.
What is a…? UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE - It is the first university credential you will be awarded upon graduation. HONOURS PROGRAM - A 4-year undergraduate degree with specialized and/or intensive courses at the 4th year level. It often includes a thesis or research-focused course.
CONCENTRATION – A defined collection of courses that is embedded into and complements an Honours or Bachelor’s 4-year program. DOUBLE DEGREE – Two undergraduate degrees from two different degree types that are completed at the same time and meet all the requirements for both degrees. If you have multiple interests and want to keep options open, you can consider: MINOR - An optional collection of courses from a particular area of study that is different from your program and/or major.
MAJOR - A program involving one primary focus of study (e.g. English or Biology).
CERTIFICATE - A professional or an applied focus that provides learning outcomes that are distinct from your program. Check out certificates in Entrepreneurship, French Proficiency, Geomatics or Palliative Care.
DOUBLE MAJOR – A program involving two focuses of study (e.g. Biology & Chemistry).
SPECIALIZATION – A defined collection of courses taken from a particular or variety of disciplines that complement the major.
BACHELOR’S PROGRAM - A 3 or 4-year undergraduate degree.
