THUNDERWOLVES Hear from our
My favourite thing about Lakehead is the students. The campus is so diverse and being able to talk to others from around the world, seeing and hearing different perspectives, all while learning a variety of different cultures and practices makes everyday a truly unique experience.
Katelyn Cribby ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT, 2024
I chose Lakehead for several reasons. These include the abundant opportunities to perform undergraduate research, the incredibly generous entrance scholarships, the relatively small class sizes, and the ability to stay in my hometown.
Ashton Henderson BIOLOGY & CHEMISTRY, 2024
The Interdisciplinary Studies program gave me so much choice and allowed me to combine all my passions into one degree! I was even able to minor in Gender and Women's Studies to add more to my degree.
Gillian Woods INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDIES, 2024
My favorite memory so far is completing my first Integrated Circuit design and having it manufactured and tested at the university lab. I was very proud that all the work my peers and I put into the project resulted in a functional design that could be published in academia. The hands-on, practical experience in the lab has been so rewarding!
Pierre Leduc ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING, 2024
There is a lot of experiential learning opportuinities in the Indigenous Learning program, which offers another layer of obtaining knowledge that is very hands-on and informative We often did smudging, created Indigenous art, and were visited by many elders who offered their guidance to us. This type of learning is high quality.

TEACHING PLACEMENTS IN PUBLIC & PRIVATE SCHOOLS
As part of my undergraduate degree in Software Engineering, one of our projects was to develop a system that would benefit society. Inspired by my grandmother, I devised an enhanced solution for fall detection. My supervisor recognized the potential of my project and directed me to Lakehead Ingenuity. I applied and was accepted to the Ingenuity Ascend Accelerator Program, which provided me invaluable business expertise and funding to kickstart my business, Silver Vantage Software. This program transitioned my idea, developed as part of my undergraduate project, into a business opportunity.

PRACTICUMS, PLACEMENTS & FIELD EXPERIENCE
Numerous undergraduate programs have integrated practicums and placements, or the opportunity for field schools and trips. You may have the opportunity to learn a new language or refine your current language skills, meet new and interesting people, learn about different cultures, or even gain global competencies to enhance marketability, which will give you a competitive edge when finding employment after graduation. Study abroad opportunities are available at partner institutions all over the world, including countries such as Australia, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Norway, Singapore, the United States, Sweden or the United Kingdom.

HBA Philosophy ‘18, MBA '2019 Law Student at Harvard University
“Academically, I wanted a school where I could thrive and build close relationships with my professors. Athletically, I chose Lakehead because of its strong basketball program. I'm hoping to work for an NBA team after practicing law for a bit. I think the writing and critical thinking skills I developed through the philosophy program and my basketball background will prove to be invaluable experiences."
Now studying Law at Harvard University, Michael has interned with the Atlanta Hawks and Special Olympics. He will be working at a Boston law firm called Ropes & Gray summer of 2024.

I chose the Indigenous Transition Year Program (ITYP) because I faced a lot of adversities in high school, so I was missing the requirements to get into university. ITYP broke down the barrier that life had built for me when I wasn't equipped to overcome it myself. Now, I am one step closer to becoming the scholar I dream to be.
