Land Acknowledgment Lakehead University is located on the traditional territory of the Anishnaabeg of the Chippewa TriCouncil which includes Rama First Nation, Beausoleil First Nation, and Georgina Island First Nation. The land we occupy is known as Treaty 16 or the Lake Simcoe Purchase of 1815, and very close to the Williams Treaties of 1923 and John Collins Purchase of 1785. Lakehead University acknowledges the history that many nations hold in the areas around our campuses, and is committed to a relationship with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples based on the principles of mutual trust, respect, reciprocity, and collaboration in the spirit of reconciliation.
