The experts in marine electronics.

Being local, many times we can be on the boat only a few hours after receiving the call,” says Rick Nielson, president of Bay Electronics in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. Nielson’s father, Dan, started the business out of his garage in 1974 while still working for the Navy in their Supervisor of Shipbuilding group. He saw a need to help local shipyards out with their electronic system testing on ships they were building for the Navy, and soon he quit his government job to serve his growing customer base.

Nielson purchased the business from his father in 2010 and has kept operations running smoothly, focusing on continually keeping up with the latest technology and features and providing the best team of experts — several of whom have been with the company for more than 30 years.

“We have the most knowledgeable and capable technicians on the Great Lakes. As a National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) Master

Dealer, our personnel have been trained for installations, networking and servicing,” explains Nielson. He says employees are like family at Bay Electronics. “I guess when they stick around for 30 years it means you are doing something right.”

The company’s location just one block from the water in Sturgeon Bay offers great access to both recreational and commercial boating customers looking for electronics work. Bay Electronics also offers engineering services and complete system designs, and can integrate newer upgrades into existing systems.

In an industry that is always evolving, Bay Electronics consistently puts itself at the forefront.

“One of the great things I like about this business is the constantly changing technology,” Nielson says. “It is imperative our company strives to keep pace with the changes. We are considered experts in this field and intend to stay that way.” ★
