Lake area golf events for charity

HK’s Lake of the Ozarks Open benefitting Lake Regional Health System is one of the lake’s favorite traditions. Play stretches across two days — Sunday, May 21, and Monday, May 22 — and two Lake of the Ozarks premier golf courses — The Cove and Porto Cima.

“All proceeds from this year’s event will support local heart care,” said Peter Brown, chairman of the HK’s committee. “Our community is blessed to have an exceptional heart program right here at Lake Regional and ensuring access to the latest heart care technology and advancements is essential.”

In addition to golf, the schedule of events includes a Rooftop Party at 6 p.m. Sunday, May 21, at The Lodge of Four Seasons Rooftop Bar for all players and select sponsors. Saxophonist Michael Byington will provide entertainment, and guests will enjoy signature chef food stations, as well as live and silent auctions. There also will be a virtual auction for the public at HKsGolf.com.

Two Days of Play

The format for HK’s Lake of the Ozarks Open will be a split style of play with fourperson teams. There will be a scramble on Sunday and shamble on Monday. According to USGA. com, a scramble is played with four-person teams. Each player plays from the teeing area on each hole; one of the tee shots is selected, and all the players play their second shots from that spot. One of the second shots is then selected, and all players play their third shots from that

spot, and so on until the ball is holed.

In a shamble format, members of the team each hit a tee shot and select the best drive. From there each player plays their own ball and the lowest score is the team score for the hole.

Sunday’s scramble will be at The Cove, the Lodge’s signature course, designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones Sr. The 18-hole, par-71 championship course challenges guests with its rolling greens, 65 bunkers and signature hole 4.

Monday’s shamble will be at Porto Cima Golf Course, Missouri’s only Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course. Golf Digest consistently ranks this private course in Missouri’s Top 10 golf courses.

There also will be several contests along the course, as well as a million dollar hole in one challenge on Porto Cima. An awards luncheon will wrap up the event on Monday.
