Far from ordinary

Dusty and Kaitlin Jewell are devoted to take coffee and donuts to another level. Owners of MO Co & Dough, the newest cafe in the Lake area, nothing they serve is ordinary. “We are all about creativity, coffee, donuts and our community,” Dusty said. The tag line of “keeping it MO local” is apparent in their ideology as well as the titles of menu items. “Our ethically-sourced, single-origin coffee beans are roasted by Firefly Valley Farms in Roach. All of our baking ingredients are locally sourced as well as our honey from Eldon that we use throughout our dishes. We also named menu items to be MO fun playing up our local vibe.” Dusty and Kaitlin have longstanding roots in the community. Kaitlin went to the School of the Osage and Dusty’s family is three generations strong in the area. As former managers at one of the largest lakefront restaurants and entertainment venues, they wanted to strike off on their own adventure in the industry and play to their passions. Their restaurant experience is over 25 years combined and spans from Osage Beach to Seattle’s coffee scene (Dusty), to Columbus, Ohio where Kaitlin created local artisan baked goods. “We love to travel and draw inspiration from funky towns like Seattle, Columbus, Nashville, and Austin but clearly our heart and heaviest influences are in Missouri.” he said. They noticed the only coffee options in Osage Beach are big brands with no local ties and strive to be a local “mom and pop” shop that is invested in the community, serving a better-quality product with cuisine you won’t see anywhere else. The menu is centered around coffee, donuts and Missouri. “Our menu is creatively different and built on strangely delicious combinations. We use the donut as our muse for food and play with some fun flavors and textures like Lotus Energy and Bursting Boba in our drinks.” Dusty said. Called MOnuts, there are four weekly rotating flavors of craft donuts with unique pairings of glazes and topping combinations. The first week they were open, the best seller was the White Chocolate Limoncello, which sold out every day. Their MO Boats and Holes (in the food service industry a boat is slang for food tray/basket and holes for donut holes) are topped with decadent ingredients. The Blueberry Fruit Salad: glazed donut holes, blueberries, local honey, and powered sugar, and The Can’t Help Falling In Love (based off an Elvis song and his favorite sandwich) glazed donut holes, peanut butter, chocolate, banana, bacon are two of the best sellers. They also offer Loaded MOnuts, sandwiches piled onto a donut base. One of the most popular, the Southern Sweet Heat consists of a glazed MOnut, breaded chicken breast, hot honey glaze (local honey and sriracha), coleslaw, and pickles hitting your tastebuds with sweet, spicy, crunchy goodness. MoShakes are an ice cream based blended drink mixed with flavors that complement the MOnut placed on top. There are some gluten free, dairy free and health food options as well, like a weekly rotating gluten-free MOnut, MOuffles (egg soufflés), MOasts (gluten free optional loaded toasts) and fresh fruit smoothies.
