here are many things to consider when building a new home — window treatments, countertops, appliances, flooring, etc. But, don’t forget about the item that’s most important for your family’s long-term comfort and pocketbook, your A/C system. When exploring your A/C options, be sure to consider a two-stage, highefficiency A/C system with humidity control. Here’s a quick physics lesson that explains why A/C systems with humidity control make your home more comfortable and lower your electric bill. Hot air holds more humidity than cold air. That’s why water droplets form on a cold glass of ice water. Droplets occur when the air temperature drops around the glass, and that reduces the amount of moisture the air can hold. This is called condensation. The same principal is true for the air in your home. As the temperature rises above your desired temperature setting, your A/C kicks on. The warm air in your house is then blown over the cold evaporator coils of your A/C. As the moisture in the air condenses onto the coils, it is captured and drained away. This warm damp air is quickly exchanged with cooler, drier, conditioned air, which is then returned to the living area of your home. So how does this affect your comfort and pocketbook?
