RECREATION FOR ALL! FREE SEMINAR SERIES The US Army Corps of Engineers would like to announce an upcoming seminar series: “Recreation for All.” These seminars will take place at the Lake Shelbyville Visitor Center, from 7-8PM on the first 4 Tuesdays in July. 2 July: LAYERING COLORS 7-7:30PM: Carol Kessler; Paint-sticks and Pastels. Carol is the proprietor of Flourishes Gallery and Studio in Shelbyville, and created many of the Painted Figures around town. 7:30-8PM: Maggie Garner; Paper-folding Art. Maggie’s work can be seen at Flourishes Gallery. 9 July: FOOD FOR THOUGHT 7-7:30PM: Jodi Allen; Pastry Art. Jodi is the co-owner of ICED in downtown Shelbyville. 7:30-8PM: Cheryl Modzelewski; Backyard Bird Feeders. Cheryl is a long-time volunteer at the US Army Corps. 16 July: SOMETHING FROM NOTHING 7-7:30PM: Jane Rood; Fabric and Paper Art. Jane is a retired EIU math instructor who in retirement has discovered a love for creating art, using fiber and paper. 7:30-8PM: Bobbie Dimock; Acrylics and Crocheting. Bobbie is an avid crocheter. She also enjoys painting with acrylics and mixed media. 23 July: TRASH TO TREASURE 7-7:30PM: Darla Stanford; Fairy Gardens. Darla is a University of Illinois Master Gardener and works for Shelby County Tourism. 7:30-8PM: Kathy Isley; Container Gardening. Kathy is a University of Illinois Master Gardener and is owner of Whitewater Gardens in Shelbyville.
Healthy and creative recreation is a necessary part of our lives, and some of the best opportunities sometimes go unnoticed. The US Army Corps is partnering with a group of local artists, gardeners, and educators to present ideas for inexpensive but meaningful recreation.
The seminars are FREE and open to everyone, of every age.
