THE NIGEL PRICE ORGAN TRIO
ASAF SIRKIS ‘LETTING GO’
NIGEL PRICE - GUITAR MATT HOME - DRUMS PETE WHITTAKER HAMMOND ORGAN
ASAF SIRKIS - DRUMS TASSOS SPILIOTOPOULOS - GUITAR JONATHAN HARVEY - BASS GUITAR-LED POWER TRIO FUSION
A CLASSIC ORGAN/GUITAR/DRUMS COMBO Winners of the 2010 Parliamentary Jazz Awards for best jazz ensemble led by one of Britain’s finest guitarists Nigel Price, ex-James Taylor Quartet and also a regular performer at Ronnie Scott’s. His blend of flowing bebop lines, blues feeling and the will to swing has made him instantly accessible and popular with jazz audiences. The band will be playing material from their recent album “Nigel Price Organ Trio Live!” (Jazzizit records). “The skilful Price lovingly celebrated Montgomery’s languidly bluesy lyricism and breezy swing, and the group heated up this 50 year-old style with an irresistible conviction.” John Fordham, The Guardian
And now for something completely different. The title could hardly be more apt. “Letting Go” is the Asaf Sirkis Trio, well, letting go. The spirituality is still there, but the mood is very different to Sirkis’ previous offerings, being much more extrovert and light-hearted, happy, almost jolly, even in the more contemplative numbers. With his trio, and especially this current offering, Sirkis has taken fusion to yet another new level. His creativity seems boundless and almost frightening. “Devastatingly creative” John Fordham, The Guardian 2008

And the resourceful Phil Robson plays Spanish guitar as if raised on it.” John Fordham, The Guardian

SOLVEIG SLETTAHJELL VOCALS & PIANO SJUR MILJETEIG - TRUMPET EVEN HERMANSEN - GUITAR JO BERGER MYHRE BASS & BARYTHON GUITAR PER ODDVAR JOHANSEN - DRUMS In her native Norway, Solveig Slettahjell has for some time been considered one of their most celebrated jazz singers. Her diverse repertoire - mixing country, jazz standards, with the odd song by Prince or Tom Waits thrown in - is sung in her utterly captivating voice. Slettahjell and her Slow Motion Orchestra strip songs to their bare essentials, creating a kind of dreamy, subtly skewed style which nods as much to gospel, soul, hymnody, folk and pop as it does to jazz and blues.

BENN CLATWORTHY QUARTET BENN CLATWORTHY - TENOR CECILIA COLEMAN - PIANO SIMON THORPE - BASS GENE CALDERAZZO - DRUMS MUSCULAR TENOR SAX-LED MODERN JAZZ Last seen at the Bonington in 2008 with that raw cutting edge style straight out of Coltrane, he wowed the audience with his complete mastery of the tenor sax. High intensity passages were still lyrical and thoughtful, and always gave space and time for the group to show their individuality and musicality. The band features New Yorker Cecilia Coleman. We look forward to their return.

SOWETO KINCH SOWETO KINCH - ALTO SAX FEMI TEMOWO - GUITAR KARL RASHEED-ABEL - BASS GRAHAM GODFREY - DRUMS A MOBO award-winner and Mercury Prize nominee, Soweto Kinch premieres his latest project and CD The New Emancipation, which draws inspiration from 19th century work songs and early blues. From debt/wage slavery, to creative oppression in the music industry and ideas of race in a post-Obama age it combines this rich musical inheritance and revisits it with a stellar jazz ensemble and hip-hop production. Citing influences as divergent as Duke Ellington, Madlib and Frederick Delius, it plants the power and significance of the blues firmly with modern realities.
For a good few years Clark Tracey has adopted the role of one of his major influences, Art Blakey, by putting together bands which showcase some of the UK’s finest young jazz musicians. This band marks a return to the sort of jazz which brought Clark to our attention in the first place straight ahead modern jazz and standards - with old friends like Steve Melling. The Groove Quintet - the clue is in the name…
