LAKESIDE CHRISTIAN CHURCH
ANNUAL REPORT
2018
Hello Lakeside, Someone once wisely said, “The days are long, but the years are short”. I realize how true that is as I reflect back on another year that has passed. In this report, you will find a lot of facts and figures that help tell the story of this last year, but the most important number you will encounter is the number 154. What does that number represent you ask? The number of men, women and children who were baptized into Christ as they confessed him as Lord and Savior of their lives. Baptism merely marks the beginning of the journey, but we are so grateful to see the evidence of God’s Spirit at work in our midst. According to the Bible, every one of those 154 names is now written in the Lamb’s book of life, and a place has now been prepared for each of them in heaven. Though we are grateful for what has happened in the lives of these people, we are eager for more of the same. We never want to lose a sense of urgency to share Jesus with others.
As you may know, this last year we began our 1 for 1 initiative. We have challenged every person in the Lakeside family to identify one specific person they will regularly pray for in hopes of leading and loving them into a relationship with Jesus. Every weekend when we gather, we are intentionally observing a 1 for 1 moment which is one minute we all pray for one individual person. Not only are we praying when we are gathered but we have challenged everyone to do the same when we are scattered throughout the community where we live, work, and play. This 1 for 1 initiative has heightened our sense of awareness about the opportunities that exist to share Jesus with others. If you have not already engaged in the 1 for 1 initiative, there is no time like now to begin. I look forward to the days ahead as we begin hearing more stories of life transformation that result from this new focus on evangelism.

on my behalf because they had full-time jobs and I was just a college student with not much to give anyway. Also, I thought that whatever I could give wouldn't even make a difference anyway. Flash forward to 2016, and I found myself losing my job, moving back in with my parents, and at a low point spiritually. But, I kept going to church, and eventually was able to hear Jamie's sermons on giving for the Exponential campaign. I knew that I had been avoiding my responsibility for quite some time now and it was time to give to God what is God's. I began giving regularly, through my pledge for Exponential, though I didn't have much to give. That's when everything started to change for me.
By the grace of God, I found work again and was able to begin school in the Spring of 2017. My life had begun to have a much more positive outlook, I was praying more, and I began looking to get involved more at church. I saw a direct correlation between these events and the fulfilment

campaign REVIEW We recently concluded our two-year generosity initiative called Exponential. Two years ago, everyone in our congregation was challenged to intentionally grow in the area of financial generosity to God. Early on I stated, Generosity creates the opportunity to be the good news and share the good news. Opportunities have been created because of your generosity. We were able to accomplish our two primary initiatives: We helped build a high school outside of Nairobi, Kenya in partnership with Missions of Hope International. Hundreds of students are now enjoying a more safe, stable learning environment as a result of your generosity. Not only are they learning reading, writing and arithmetic, but most

importantly they are learning about the generous love of God. We are sending teams to Kenya on a regular basis as we continue to deepen our relationship with one another. We renovated our Lakeside Park Campus. For many years the Lakeside Park campus has been a wonderful place for thousands of people to learn about Jesus and build meaningful relationship with others. The time came for significant renovation to be done in order to maintain conducive ministry environments for all ages while also creating a great first impression for guests. The process was inconvenient and uncomfortable (remember the scaffolding???), but the project is complete and the dust has finally settled. We now have a great ministry space that will allow us to serve the next generation of families in our community.
I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude. So many of you joined my own family in making financial sacrifices to make these projects possible. Bricks and mortar were involved, but this work was all about being the good news and sharing the good news of Jesus with as many people as possible as quickly as possible. Thank you for your past generosity and your continued generosity as well.

Family matters to God and so it matters to us. Families come in many different shapes and sizes. Regardless of your family’s form, we will always place a high premium on teaching, mentoring, challenging and providing practical spiritual leadership for our married couples, parents/guardians and children.
WHY NEXT GEN? Abbi Armbruster Children’s Ministry Director, Hebron Campus People often wonder why I do what I do. I’m 22, fresh out of college, and single. It’s mind-boggling to some that I would jump into ministry. My answer never changes. I do children’s ministry because children change lives. I was in 7th grade when I met a friend who led me into a deeper relationship with Jesus. That friend grew up in children’s ministry. She knew that following Jesus was not just for grown-ups, and I want every kid I know to believe that. Following Jesus is for everyone, big and small. It wasn’t long after I was baptized in the summer of 2011 that I couldn’t wait to tell my family and friends about the way Jesus had moved in my life. I, too, knew that following Jesus and making disciples wasn’t just for grown-ups. I do children’s ministry because children remind me that God is good and it really is simple to be loved by our Heavenly Father. I do children’s ministry because children encounter other children each and every day who need to know this guy named Jesus who can change their life and their family’s life.
Lakeside is like my second home. It’s one of the places that makes me feel safe and really connected with God. All of the leaders are very kind and welcoming, and are a huge part of what makes Lakeside special to me and everyone else. Whenever one of the students is dealing with a problem or anything in their personal life, they are always there to help and encourage the student to get through it by using God’s words.

MOHI seeks to be intimately involved in the lives of each student’s family. Daily, there are social workers making rounds, engaging parents and seeking to find a way to meet community needs. MOHI is more than a system of schools; they are a holistic ministry seeking to bring full gospel hope to an entire country. It’s something that I hope every Lakesider has the opportunity to see first-hand!

ministry, I am part of a mission to show Jesus’ love to any young woman or man who walks through our door. It is a place that speaks truth coupled with grace. My time might be spent counting change from the baby bottle campaign or packing diapers that we distribute to clients taking classes. I may spend an hour with a client going through lessons on pregnancy issues or parenting tips. At times, I sit with a young woman in crisis facing a very difficult decision and speak truth about abortion and parenting and adoption. I may watch a free ultrasound performed and watch the face of a young mother as she sees the miracle of life growing inside her.
