LAKESIDE CHRISTIAN CHURCH
ANNUAL REPORT
2017
LOVE DOES. NOT FOR A WHILE, 01
BUT FOR ALWAYS.
HELLO LAKESIDE,
Seems just like that another year has passed and another is set to begin. As much as things change, some things just stay the same. I don’t know about you, but I find great hope in that truth. The climate is changing, the culture is shifting, the political landscape is growing more and more fractured by the moment; and in the midst of it all one thing remains, or should I say one person remains: Jesus. He is still the King, he always has been and he always will be. His love is unfailing and his grace never stops abounding. Therefore, though time is passing and our world is changing we still have a lot of work to do, and the mission goes on unchanged. We exist to Love Jesus and Love Like Jesus. In 1 Corinthians 13 the Bible describes love using this refrain ‘love is’ over and over again. Certainly that is one effective way to describe love, but as a church we do not want to settle to describe love, we want to display love. And love does. So as I look back at this past year I cannot help but to recognize as a church we have displayed love to our neighborhoods, community and around the world. Meals, prayers, and homes have been shared. Money, time and energy has been invested. Relationships and classrooms have been built. Weeds, shrubs, and thorny roots have been pulled. Trees, bushes, and flowers have been planted. Love does. Not for a while, but for always. So as we begin this new year of life and ministry together our primary goal remains the same. Love Jesus. Love Like Jesus. Jamie Snyder Lead Pastor

y life was completely spiraling out of control after my divorce. For almost a year, I didn’t know which way was up, down, left, or right. I had no direction, no will, no desire, and no focus to really get over the depression and anxiety I was facing. I knew I needed something in my life to change the direction and path I was on. I reached out to Lakeside and met with Pastor Mark, and we had some good long talks and prayer sessions. I had attended Lakeside off and on over the years, but it wasn’t on a consistent basis. One simple sentence that Pastor Mark said really hit me hard and it was the greatest reality check I have ever had in my life: “Jesus loves you. He forgives you of your sins, and you should give your life over to him.” “How can that be?”, I would ask myself. How can giving up control really change my life? I was too stubborn to give up my control.

WOMEN IN BIBLE STUDY
A
t one point, I wanted to run away from everything and give up. One night while alone, I just looked up and said, “Jesus, it’s yours. Take me, lead me, guide me and teach me how to live my life through your word.” I attended church the next Sunday and the message Pastor Jamie gave was only to me. Yes, there were hundreds of people hearing the same message throughout all 3 campuses, but it felt like he was speaking only to me. I called Pastor Mark and asked if Jamie had written the sermon for me only. He stated that was a sign from God, and that I knew in my heart what I needed to do. My kids and I were baptized December 2016 and it has changed my life. I pray every morning and ask Jesus to lead everything I do in life. It is the most amazing feeling to know that I now have focus, direction, and the desire to get up every morning and serve Jesus. He is my Savior, and I know being his humble servant is the way I have to and need to live my life.

ommunity Group is extended family. Never was this more evident to me than earlier this year when both my wife and I underwent surgeries – my wife for a fractured ankle, and me for a blocked artery. Our CG rallied with in-home support for my wife until she was able to get back on her feet using crutches. They provided meals that lasted for weeks. When I had my surgery, several friends were there to greet me in recovery. Then others delivered a delicious pasta primavera meal with a special salad to my hospital room. Honestly, I couldn’t have asked for more! The care and concern they showed during our convalescence were deeply touching, clearly reflecting the love of Jesus.

ot so coincidently, when another member of our group underwent surgery several months later, the CG responded in a very similar way. That prompted her to mention that she had never been on the receiving end of such care and generosity from others, and she was completely overwhelmed by the outpouring of love shown to her.

everal of our CG families have struggled with hardships over the past year, but we’re always there to support and encourage one another. That’s just what Community Groups do.

hey are connecting with one another and are talking about their faith - creating bonds of understanding and caring among each other. Many of the girls don’t share the exact same views, come from different parenting styles/family dynamics, but are committed to respecting each other’s differences. The girls are engaged with one another, sharing their backgrounds, hopes, and dreams.

My dad was baptized at the age of 68! Throughout his life he’s experienced so much, including the loss of a child (when my brother passed away 3 years ago--at the age of 31.) I’ve watched God use both the highs and the lows to pull my dad in closer over the years. It’s been the most incredible and miraculous thing to witness. Growing up, my dad was very intentional about making sure we knew Jesus, but for some reason he was hesitant about completely surrendering his own life to the Lord. As I got older, I began to realize and understand that it was Satan holding him back. Satan knew how influential of a person my dad would be as a follower of Jesus. My sisters and I would always bring my dad to church on Sunday mornings. We would share truth with him any opportunity we could (in hopes that he’d eventually understand what he was missing out on!) My mom, my sisters and myself have prayed continuously that one day he would be able to completely trust God and make the decision to be baptized. Well...we serve a FAITHFUL God! On Memorial Day this year, my dad finally surrendered and professed Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior! My sisters and I had the honor of doing the actual baptism at his request. I will be forever grateful to have witnessed and been a part of God’s beautiful plan! »

PROJECTS DONE ON GO DAY
“
I need to pass along a really big THANK YOU to the awesome volunteers from Lakeside Church. This past Saturday they came out on a rescheduled date and absolutely worked their hearts out. The areas of campus they touched look fantastic and we have received a whole bunch of compliments already. They truly showed how the “hands and feet” of faithful people make a difference! Also, another big thanks for the contributions from Lakeside Church in support of our Student Garden project. Taking an unused grassy area and turning it into a hands-on learning area for kids is huge! Your generosity made this possible!

serve in Lakeside Kids because I love kids. They’re so pure at heart and kind. They constantly remind me to be kind, loving, and forgiving. It holds me accountable in my faith, making sure it’s authentic so I can lead. In Matthew 18:3, Jesus tells us to become like little children, so it really helps spending time with kids and understanding how they think and act. The kids I work with bring me so much joy, and they’re one of the main reasons I chose to go to NKU. I’ve been with (now) 4th/5th grade girls for about two years and I couldn’t bear leaving them. I didn’t have a small group or a kids group to go to when I was growing up, and I think if I had I would’ve had a deeper connection with God sooner than I did and it would’ve helped me so much in those tough middle school years. I want to help show kids that they are so loved and having a deep connection with God NOW is 100% in their best interest because He is an awesome God.
I
t is truly the most amazing experience when one of the kids I lead comes to know Jesus. To see a child I love so deeply and have spent so much time with choose to follow Christ fills me with a special kind of joy that I can’t even begin to explain. The girls I lead are my little sisters in Christ and to know I’ll see them in heaven one day makes me so happy and so grateful. I was able to baptize two girls in my small group this past year and it was so humbling. I’ve been so blessed to be able to walk with these girls in their faith. It just makes you want to grow in your faith even more and love more and care more and lead more and bring as many other kids as you can to Christ. As much as they feel loved, it makes me feel just as loved.

MULTIPLICAT
YEAR END UPDATE
I
Mark Sullivan, Hebron Campus Pastor >>
can’t believe I’ve already been at Lakeside Hebron for a year. It has flown by, and honestly it has been my favorite year in ministry. Ever. This place has incredible people, incredible stories of transformation and an incredible opportunity to do even more. When discussions first began with me potentially coming to Lakeside, I will admit, I didn’t fully know what the role of a Campus Pastor even was completely. Now that I am here, I can’t imagine doing anything else. The reason for that is our value of Multiplication. Maybe you have not ever thought of it like this, but we really have the best of both worlds at Lakeside. We have the resources of a large size church, but the proximity and intimacy of a smaller neighborhood type church because of our multisite Zip Codes approach. It is because of this model that we can be aggressive in our multiplication efforts. When I started here, my wife and I knew that living in Hebron had to be a priority if we wanted our future neighbors to call Lakeside home
as well. The idea of multiplication is not difficult to understand, it just takes effort and obedience.
N
o matter which campus you call home, make sure you are doing your part of investing in people to help them see Jesus. Find ways to be intentional as you seek to love Jesus and love like Him. I am reminded daily from people that despite what emotion is displayed on social media, or what emoji was sent in a text, that people are hurting and broken. We have been called to make disciples with the life God has given us. Let’s aggressively make this our highest priority as we seek to multiply our church over the coming 1 years. What step are you taking right now to lead someone 2 3 from guilt to grace? 4 6 8 9 10 12 13 16 18 21 22

We don’t take ourselves too seriously, but we take our call to make disciples very seriously. Multiplication is another way of describing Jesus’ call for us to make disciples. Jesus has charged and challenged us to get as many people as possible to know the love of God. Multiplication is the measurable result of a Christian living on mission.
LEADERS INVESTING
+CIY BELIEVE =LIVES CHANGED
On February 22nd at the Hebron campus, five students at Middle School Ministry decided to be baptized. Some of the decisions were a result of going to the CIY Believe event for middle schoolers, but others came to this decision because of their small group leaders investing in them and loving them.

EXPONENTIAL UPDATE We’re a little over one year in to our Exponential Generosity Initiative! Over the last thirteen months, we’ve challenged everyone who calls Lakeside their home to increase their level of giving individually so that we could make an exponential impact as a church in three key areas: our vision, our community and our world.
Because of Lakesiders who have sacrificially and consistently given to this effort, we have been able to make an:
E X P O N E N TI A L I N V ESTMENT IN O UR V I S I O N
Our Lakeside Park campus has seen a major renovation, enabling us to increase our ministry efforts. The auditorium has been updated to become a better video venue, which allows us to share the message of Jesus with others all over the world. Our children’s and student areas were renovated to meet our current “Lead Small” model so the next generation can be mentored and invested in by leaders. The lobby has also been expanded to help guests to feel more welcome.

Expanding into a multisite church has allowed us to reach new people in both the Hebron and Taylor Mill communities. Since
the launch of the Hebron campus in December 2013, 109 people have made a personal decision to follow Jesus and have been baptized. Our Taylor Mill campus, which launched in the Fall of 2015, has seen 34 baptisms as a result of life change. We are passionate about multiplication and desire to reduce debt associated with previous campus expansion, strategically positioning and preparing us for future expansion opportunities.
EXP ONENTIAL INFLUENCE I N OUR WORLD
Through our new long-term partnership with Missions of Hope International, we are providing funds to build the Joska Boys School’s first permanent facility in Nairobi, Kenya. Last October, our Executive Director, Mike Tolle, and Taylor Mill Campus Pastor, Shamus Staubach, attended the groundbreaking for the facility that will provide schooling for 1,600 boys from one of the poorest regions in the world. In addition, over 40 Lakesiders have signed up for 2017 mission trips to have feet on the ground in Nairobi and serve the people there directly. »
Mission Of Hope International (MOHI): School break is over, and second semester has begun! These parents gave their kids a warm send-off from Nairobi as they head out to our Joska boarding school for a new term.
