Report of Contributions JULY 1, 2018–JUNE 30, 2019

You make it possible As we begin to celebrate our centennial this fall, we reflect on the year behind us and offer thanks to you, the members of our donor community, for your generous gifts to Lakeside.

Your gifts make it possible for Lakeside to offer students a creative and dynamic education that prepares them to be thoughtful and committed citizens and leaders of their city, country, and world. On these pages you see students – in our classrooms, on our playing fields, in our theaters, on Outdoor Program trips – engaged in a moment of learning last year. Through these experiences, our students learn to work collaboratively, to solve real-world problems, to appreciate the intrinsic beauty of the academic disciplines, and, most importantly, to make sound ethical decisions in both their personal and academic lives. Lakeside has been fortunate to have individuals like all of you who have been most generous to the school, funding technology in the classroom, faculty excellence, financial aid, athletics, Global Service Learning, the Outdoor Program, performing and visual arts, and so much more! Simply put, without donors like you, Lakeside would not be able to offer a world-class academic and co-curricular program to our students. Thank you, everyone! I appreciate all that you have done for the school this past year. Together, we can all be proud of the contribution Lakeside has made to society through the students it has graduated. I look forward to seeing you at games and performances – and also at events celebrating Lakeside’s centennial year, 2019-2020!

Cordially,

Bernie Noe P’07 ’09 Head of School

REPORT OF CONTRIBUTIONS 2018-2019

Lakeside’s music and drama courses are accessible to and engaging for both beginners and seasoned performers. Every 5th grader takes a yearlong orchestra course in which students learn to play a string instrument. Thanks to you, every student is provided an instrument for in-home practice. REPORT OF CONTRIBUTIONS 2018-2019

Thanks to your support, our students are exploring healthy lifestyles in new ways. The Lakeside Middle School physical education department recently hosted inline skating program Skate Journeys for a weeklong residency. The residency supports the department’s goal of helping students develop active lifestyles and establishing habits for a healthy life. By Friday, students were zooming around, “swizzling” their feet between cones, and skating on one foot.

You support our teachers in developing an innovative, cross-departmental curriculum. This year the Spanish IV/V class went to Colombia to study themes of empowerment of indigenous communities, resistance, and identity. Students lived with host families in a close-knit, rural, Spanish-speaking community, and they interviewed community members about their experiences with Colombian resistance movements.

Your gift helps spark creativity and collaboration—skills that are crucial to success in the modern workplace and beyond. There’s no better place to develop these skills than in the arts classroom at Lakeside, where we strive to teach creativity, empathy, and resilience.

REPORT OF CONTRIBUTIONS 2018-2019

You help our students in their journey to develop ethical spirits. Their daily interactions with one another and with adult community members teach them to be inclusive, considerate, and to act with integrity. REPORT OF CONTRIBUTIONS 2018-2019

Lakeside students are taught by faculty and staff with outstanding experience and credentials in their fields, and a passion for educating young people. Thanks to you, Lakeside students also have access to a wide range of educational specialists in our library, global education program, and student and family support program.

REPORT OF CONTRIBUTIONS 2018-2019

Your donation sustains a thriving Outdoor Program with trips ranging from the top of Mount Baker to the gullies of the Grand Canyon. Through outdoor education, students learn new skills, gain self-confidence, reflect on their responsibility to the natural world, and build meaningful relationships in a way rarely possible in a traditional classroom setting.
