Context
Mera Gaon Tera | Academic Thesis
Abstract India is full of hidden treasures, and one of them is Tera, the first heritage village. The title of the village suggests its importance. It is a land of diversity rich and gifted with a strong community of people skilled in craft and agriculture.
What you don’t see is the sounds of *Bhorrindo played by locals sitting under a tree. * Bhorrindo- Kutchi string instrument
Yet, unfortunately, Tera and its Abdasa region remains hidden and is yet to be experienced by many. The new circuit development in the district of kutch, connecting Bhuj to Lakhpat opens the door for new possibilities for the village. Although, in the current plan the village will remain to be hidden as people will pass through the entrances to Tera without ever entering it. This thesis looks at an architectural intervention to recognize this missed opportunity for the village and its people by developing the place as an eco-tourist hub sensitive to its people, context, and environment. The growing realization of the ill effects of mass tourism has led to a conscious effort to look at an alternative tourism model, which will be part of the study. Hence, the word ‘eco’ and its importance can’t be understated.

Broad themes for the projects Movement and site as the generator Locals as a guide and resource Functionally Neutral Incremental Non-Building Outside-Inside Relation
Portrait of Tera Village gives the essence of the village (Places to visit, monuments, crafts practiced, animals spotted, etc)
The start of this project is about defining the nature of space. I am not too keen on deciding the overall form of the complex but, rather I attempted to create a series of humane scalespaces as seen in the Tera village which when multiplicated would then form the complex.

I was fortunate to work on two workspace projects in my hometown shortly after completing my bachelor’s in architecture; the two workspaces are close to each other in an industrial area of Meghpar Borichi, which sits in between two major ports, Kandla and Mundra. Two office spaces were designed for Timber Mill owners. Timber and concrete blocks Factories/workshops dominate this Industrial area. The area is also rich in craft. These themes and the availability of material have driven the design.
