AIPL Business Club, Gurgaon LEED v3 2009: CS
Construction Activity Pollution Prevention
Sustainable Sites – Prerequisite 1 Construction Activity Pollution Prevention Intent To reduce pollution from construction activities by controlling soil erosion, waterway sedimentation, and airborne dust generation.
Requirement Create and implement an erosion and sedimentation control plan for all construction activities associated with the project. The plan must conform to the erosion and sedimentation requirements of the 2003 EPA Construction General Permit OR local standards and codes, whichever is more stringent. The plan must describe the measures implemented to accomplish the following objectives: ● ● ●
To prevent loss of soil during construction by stormwater runoff and/or wind erosion, including protecting topsoil by stockpiling for reuse. To prevent sedimentation of storm sewers or receiving streams. To prevent pollution of the air with dust and particulate matter.
Narrative AIPL Business Club, Gurgaon has implemented site sedimentation and erosion control plan that conforms to the best management practices highlighted in the National Building Code of India (NBC), Part 10, Section 1, Chapters 4 – Protection of Landscape during Construction and Chapter 5 – Soil and Water Conservation, which was prepared at an early stage prior to construction. The plan has met the following objectives: ● ●
Prevent the loss of soil during construction by stormwater runoff and/ or wind erosion, including protecting topsoil by stockpiling for reuse. Prevent sedimentation of storm sewer or receiving streams.
●
Prevent air pollution with dust and particulate matter.
MEASURES FOLLOWED PRE-CONSTRUCTION An erosion and sedimentation control plan had been developed and implemented at the AIPL Business Club site at Gurgaon. It addresses the possible soil erosion due to various environmental conditions like water flow, rainwater runoff, concrete curing, and water pumping out of excavation area etc. The plan has been incorporated into the construction drawings and specifications. The plan intends to – - Minimize soil erosion. - Prevent surface runoff during construction. - Channelize rainwater runoff towards the sedimentation tank. - Effectively remove sediments from the water runoff before it leaves the site. The following have been taken care of to achieve this:

Construction Activity Pollution Prevention
MEASURES FOLLOWED DURING CONSTRUCTION Restriction of Excavated area To prevent the soil erosion from the vertical faces of the excavated area, the vertical faces were covered with tarpaulin sheets to prevent earth slide. During the stage of excavation to prevent the collapse of vertical faces of excavated area iron rod support at regular interval have been provided along the line of excavation. Site Irrigation A daily irrigation plan has been adopted, water sprinkling to all soil areas was done minimum twice a day to settle down the dust produced during the construction process and stabilize loose soil. Site Barricading The site was barricaded all round with the help of brick wall to prevent dust and airborne particles from pollution the surroundings. Construction of Gravel pit A gravel pit in all construction entry/exit of the site had been provided during the construction. Timing of Construction The major part of the Construction work and erosion control applications were scheduled and sequenced during dry weather periods when the potential for erosion is the lowest. Structural Control Since the site was almost flat with a meager slope and not prone to erosion. The 12 ft. high corrugated G.I. barricading provided as a virtual boundary which was effective in countering soil erosion by wind as well as preventing construction pollution which could disturb nearby areas. Preservation of Existing Vegetation There was no significant vegetation on the site. Preservation of topsoil for future use The excavated soil was piled in a designated area. The 50mm of topsoil was preserved separately with special care. Spill Prevention and Control The soil was kept away from any hazardous substances. Measures during Transportation During transportation, the excavated soil was kept wet to prevent erosion by wind and covered with used jute bags to further hold it from erosion. Access roads and material laydown areas were planned to minimize site disturbance. Separate storage areas were planned for different materials including waste materials. Grassing and mulching during stockpiling The soil was stabilized with temporary seeding using locally available grass (grain). The part which is expected to be required for immediate construction activities is protected from wind erosion by sprinkling and jute bags.

AIPL Business Club, Gurgaon LEED v3 2009: CS
Construction Activity Pollution Prevention
Temporary Stormwater drainage A temporary Stormwater drainage channel was created all around the site which collected the surface runoff and excess rainwater collected in the basement area. This drainage channel was periodically filtered to control soil erosion. Other Controls during Construction ● Offsite Vehicle Tracking ● Entrances and primary paths of the vehicular movement were stabilized to prevent vehicle tracking of sediment. ● Regular spraying of water on the roads to prevent air pollution.
MEASURES FOLLOWED POST-CONSTRUCTION Stormwater management system A carefully designed stormwater management system channels all rain received into a controlled flow, preventing soil erosion and facilitating removal of silt. The suspended particles are collected in the manholes and the water then reaches the rainwater harvesting pits through closed pipes. The runoff from the roads also is made to pass through several manholes for de-silting before it reaches the rainwater harvesting pits. Only the overflow from the rainwater harvesting pits exits the site towards the municipal drains. Following practices are planned: ● Use of geo-textile fabric over basement roof to check soil erosion Geo-textile fabric will be used as a part of the drainage layer to prevent soil erosion over the basement slab. The geo-fabric is used over the filter layer and to protect the perforated pipe. This prevents fine soil particles entering into the perforated pipes and into the harvesting structures which may cause clogging of pipes. ● Use of sedimentation tanks and rainwater harvesting pits Soak pits along with the collection pit would be constructed along the perimeter of the site. The rainwater runoff from hard areas would be collected into a closed pipe drain and through a sedimentation chamber discharged into rainwater discharge soak pits. The suspended matter gets collected in sedimentation chambers, which need to be cleaned periodically. Rainwater collected from the roof would be stored in rainwater collection sumps and further treated and reused for domestic purposes. ● Periodic maintenance as per norms Quarterly cleanouts and removal of debris from the pebble drains, drain inlets, and outlets to prevent the soil particles from entering the filtering media and causing premature failure of the system. Cleaning of the stormwater system before and after the monsoon has been dictated as bare minimum.

Daylight Analysis Report AIPL/EDS/DL RPT/01
1. Introduction This report was prepared by Environmental Design Solutions Pvt Ltd for AIPL Business Club, Gurgaon, representing the results of the daylight analysis of interior space for the project. The proposed building was analyzed for daylight levels of a minimum of 110 lux and a maximum of 5400 lux for 75% of all regularly occupied spaces to enhance the comfort level of the occupants. The simulation was done on 21st September at 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
2. Analysis Methodology Software The daylighting analysis was done using Radiance Synthetic Imaging System software (commonly referred to as RADIANCE). The Radiance Synthetic Imaging System is a highly accurate ray-tracing software program for the analysis and visualization of daylighting in design. RADIANCE has a lighting simulation engine that calculates light levels and renders images based on a detailed description of the 3-dimensional surface geometry, materials, and light sources in a building.
Model description ❏ A detailed 3-D model of the Residential building was created in Ecotect and imported into the RADIANCE software for analyzing the daylight performance. ❏ A Uniform Design Sky with a standard lux level of 8,500 across the entire hemisphere was used in the model. ❏ The external shading devices (wherever they are) were also modeled as per the drawings. ❏ The following assumptions for surface reflectance were made for the model. ● All walls and columns: 60% ● Partition Walls: 48% ● Ceiling: 80% ● Floor: 20% ● Glass: 40% visible light transmission
