The Savvy Consumer Editorial The time is changing all around. People are buying all new things, not all things are what they need though. With credit, you buy what you want when you want even if you don't need it to survive. While everyone buys what they want, people are getting lazier and starting to forget what hard work really is. People are starting to take action when it comes to spending money. We are buying more and more useless products for less money and less quality. Not only are we buying more products, we are spending more time with leisure. Weather it be jazz concerts or golfing, we are throwing money out the window. We need some control. Have you ever had the feeling of “Gotta have It.” I know that I have. We think that we need products because of the way they are being portrayed to us. Don’t listen to that little voice inside your head telling you to buy everything you see. Color printing, movies, flyers, radio, and print are all brainwashing us into thinking that we need to own all these products. We need to stop giving into these impulse buys and find out what these products are really doing to us.

Have you gone grocery shopping only planning on buying milk but leave with the whole store? Yeah, don’t lie. This has probably happened to you at least once. We never focus on what we need but more of what we want. Advertisements, the radio even, will always persuade you to buy buy buy! Now do you know why your wallet is so light? The next time you go to the store, ask yourself, “Do I really need this? Or do I want this?” Don’t get caught in the moment.

The Troubles Of Advertising By: Alyssa Skala Are new advertising tactics good for America, or a way to brai nwash Americans into buying things they don’t need? Have you ever had the feeling of “Gotta have It.” I know that I have. We think that we need products because of the way they are being portrayed to us. Don’t listen to that little voice inside your head telling you to buy everything you see. Color printing, movies, flyers, radio, and print are all brainwashing us into thinking that we need to own all these products. We need to stop giving into these impulse buys and find out what these products are really doing to us. The goal of producers now is to get us to buy their unreliable and unsafe products. They are doing this using all sorts of new advertising techniques. When they use color printing it grabs our attention. The flyers that are all around town are falsely advertising products. Have you seen the medicine products that are in all our stores? Penicillin, Ether Squibb, and Lysol are a couple of them. These products say that they “cure diseases” when they just are making them worse. Do you know what you’re taking each night to help you sleep? I sure don’t know what's in it.

Movies brought back a danger. The power of the clan for the most part fell apart after the federal government began to arrest the Klan members who were guilty of violence against blacks, and were against whites who supported Reconstruction. The Klan disappeared for some time, but later came back because of Motion Picture. The Klan was reborn in 1915 when D. W. Griffith’s now-classic film, “The Birth Of a Nation” This movie was based on a Klan member and romanticized the KKK. There are lots of ad’s on the radio and we are buying into these because they made unrealistic promises to us. They glamorize their products that they make so we have a urge to buy them. The worst part of radio is hearing it, when we hear things they are in the back of our brains and we remember them a lot more than we would have if we just glanced at a poster. We need to take a stance against these false advertisements. What can we do to get them to really tell the truth about what is in their products? Side effects are posted nowhere and what is used in the products are non existent also. How would you know if you have a serious allergy to a soap? You wouldn't. Many people can die taking medications too often because there is no labels and instructions. We need to do something about the lies we are being told by producers. 4

Ford's new models are as comfortable and stylish as ever. You certainly won't get the icy mitt pulling up in one of these cars.

Mass Production, The Monster By Carly Norris Listen all‌. we have an issue. Ever since Henry Ford thought up the assembly line our lands have been covered with the filth that mass production brings. Mass productions is the means by which people make a large amount of products for really cheap with most commonly the use of an assembly line. You folks might think that mass production is awsome but let me tell you the only thing making an excessive amount of cars of for is only an excuse rich businessmen to get more money. First of all the amount of resources is limited so as mass production becomes more popular the more resources we use to make things. Since so many new products are coming out people all around are throwing out perfectly good products. Just because it is newer doesn't necessarily mean it's better and they become unusable along with all the materials it took to build them. Even though lots of resources are plentiful right now hundreds of years from now because of us there won't be ay left for the people after us. We can't leave this mess for our children and our children's children to clean up.z

One of the first of Ford´s assembly lines

Next I would like to make the argument of the poor conditions of the workers. Assembly lines are dangerous and not only that but the job is boring. All the parts moving and all the heavy things workers are forced to move from place to place can make things dangerous! What if something falls? Not only is mass production dangerous it is also an extremely boring job. Imagine doing the same job everyday. Things would get quite repetitive. Also would you like to be reduced to the person that crosses the is and dots the ts. Rather than a specialized woodworker. My last and most likely the most important point is the impact that mass production has on the beauty of our land and I'm not just talking about the ugliness of the factories. Everywhere you go you can see new and may I add disturbing factories popping up in the most inconvenient places. Maybe the park where your children USED to play. Not only are the factories where mass production taking place ruining the looks of our country they are ruining the air that we breathe. Mass production takes lots of things to run; people, trees, coal. The part I am worried about is the trees and the coal because when you burn these they let of gas which does this thing called pollution. Pollution makes the air dirty. Have you noticed it's getting harder to breathe? Well if you have pollution is why. We as a united people have to stop this monster smothering OUR land, before it takes out all the fun of jobs, trees out of forests, and covers our air in horrible smoke.

Credit!! Buy now, pay later!! You want a car? No problem. You want a new home? No problem, all thanks to credit. Credit helps you get the house you want or that new car or maybe something smaller, possibly larger. Credit will help save America by creating jobs and having more people make money. Let's dive into the world of credit. The businesses are booming with credit. Everyone buys what they always wanted, but could never have because they had to pay with cash. Credit helps you pay for little things, for example maybe you didn´t have all the money you needed at the butcher or market. You can use credit to save you from sticky situations when money was short. More commonly, credit may be used for large purchases, such as a automobile from Ford. Its not showing off, so much as it is keeping up with your neighbors. If they have something nice, you should have it too! Credit is the new way of money exchange. No more hassle with paying it all now, you can pay it later. Credit is new, sheek and a modern way of life!

The Buy now pay later saying was used a lot to represent credit. This is a sign using the Buy now pay later saying.

By Nicole Trout

Don't be stuck with a bad scene, not getting what you wanted, use the new ¨buy now, pay later¨ credit option. Consider the motor manufacturers´ cycle of jobs and workers who need transportation to work. Many of those working to manufacture cars have struck gold in the auto industry! Now that credit is around, anyone can buy a car and get where you need to be. The car makers are very busy making money at their jobs now that everyone wants to buy a car. The cars are selling so fast, more workers are needed to make the cars, which is another upside for credit. Its helping our economy grow! The increase in people making the cars, selling the cars and customers buying the cars all make a big win. Many people cannot afford a home of their own, since they don´t have money saved for a house. With credit, you can be a homeowner. Buying a house gives you more space to live, creates jobs for carpenters and puts people to work. And with your new home, you´ĺl need to buy some new products to make your place modern and your life easier. Credit is not just for the wealthy. Credit can help when you are down. Say you have a family to feed and lose your job or have bad accident and can't pay off your bills. Credit can keep you from living on the streets by loaning the money to you until you can pay it off. Once you make your payments, you will recover and get your life back to normal. Credit 8 can change something awful to something easily solved.

Are We Really Mindless Zombies? Will radio and movies give americans access to new information, or make Americans lazy, mindless zombies? By: Janicqua Perkins

Ah at last, something new and exciting. Something that is going to broaden American life and culture. Something entertaining to waste your time. No more long walks in the park and going to bars. No more pretending to have an excuse to not hang out with someone. Get your head outta that newspaper, a new revolutionary idea has been brought to life; radios and moving pictures! Yes, Finally! A new invention! But, is this new idea a good one? Will this help future generations? Oh, you don’t know? Well, I guess I gotta tell ya. Radios have made it easier to transfer information from city to city. Did you know, we have spent over $430 million dollars on radios!? We are now able to hear important news, like the election and upcoming events. The radio became our ear to the world. Many families would gather around the radio to listen to sports, comedy, and the latest news. Movies, on the other hand, could be shown in many theaters at the same time, helping to create a mass culture. It could inspire creativity, and inspire other movies of the future. Unbelieveable! How did we get this far? Thank goodness, the privileges that only the rich could enjoy are now common to everybody with unlimited choices of what theater, what movie, what place, and what time. Silent films are a problem of the past. Movies with recorded sound included only music and effects. Now we can enjoy talkies

or talking pictures. Its very interesting to know that radio and movies have come a long way. Information from radios were understood well by good commentators. With them describing, information was real through the radio. It explained more in detail. Movies are great and all however, there are a few cons about them that are an issue. Movies had no restrictions meaning some races were offended by what was put in moving pictures. Some parts of movies had inappropriate scenes that were not eligible for kids to watch. Even though some kids did anyway. Some movies portray certain subjects or themes in a way which is far from real. Such portrayals establish false notions amongst other people. Movies can also influence violence, especially in teenagers. These movies can show new ways of torture and physical abuse which inspires the young mind to indulge in these acts. Now you’re probably asking, “you just said movies and radios were a good thing AND a bad thing. Aren’t you supposed to give one side of your opinion?” Well, I asked myself that too but, “there is always two sides of a coin.” Although movies were a nice lil thing to waste our time and start new culture, it also taught us bad behavior and gave us false accusations about different races that are not true which can cause fights. Radio is lovely, yes. You can multitask while listening to the radio. BUT bad weather can cause the radio to lose signal. So when you’re sitting at home trying to hear that baseball game or important information, you could get cut off by that annoying thunder storm outside.
