You are La Lu

The La Lumiere ideal is an individual who embraces all three attributes: excellence on the field, success in the classroom, and dedication to faith through service.

I learned that truly wealthy people are rather smart about the institutions they donate money to. They want to be remembered.

On the athletic field, my achievements are sound, from my early days as a substitute to this year as Captain of the football team. Academically, I am challenged and have risen to the rigor; proudly earning honor roll status each quarter of my career. La Lumiere has allowed me to grow as I have participated in service opportunities in Nicaragua and Lourdes, France, as well as locally. As the Sacristan Prefect, it has been an honor to explore my faith through leadership and service, and I am very grateful.

Now get this straight … I am not wealthy. I did however, give annual gifts to my schools; University of Chicago and University of Notre Dame. Five years ago I quietly changed my tune on my giving strategy. I decided to make my annual donations to La Lumiere. Why? I could donate a million dollars to both U of C and ND and they would still not know who I am.

The Annual Fund supports the School’s mission by providing program enrichment and financial assistance for students. It supports our outstanding faculty, and preserves the beauty of the campus our students and alumni call “home.” The Annual Fund is essential; it is continuous; and, most importantly, it is a joint effort of the entire La Lumiere community.

La Lumiere is part of our family. My two older brothers launched their own paths from La Lumiere, one to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and one to a ROTC scholarship at the University of Notre Dame. While establishing my own legacy, I serve as a role model for my younger siblings and continue the Lake family legacy.

My kids are out of college and my aging memories of La Lumiere are now fondly remembered. More importantly, in these days where a second rate education is good enough to get by… La Lumiere’s goal for excellence in education is just refreshing. La Lumiere knows who I am.

I appreciate the chance La Lumiere has given me to reach my potential.

I feel like an active participant in the School’s future.

Join hundreds of others, like Bill Igoe, who understand that a gift to La Lumiere is an investment in our students, like Patrick Lake. We can agree this world needs La Lumiere men and women. You are La Lu and we invite you to make a gift today.
