ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Our sincerest thanks to the many volunteers who generously give their time in support of La Mama. La Mama’s venues are on Wurundjeri land, part of the Kulin nation, and the Committee of Management, staff and wider theatrical community acknowledge its traditional custodians. La Mama is financially assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council – its Arts Funding and Advisory body, the Victorian Government through Arts Victoria – Department of Premier and Cabinet, and by the City of Melbourne through the Arts and Culture triennial funding program.

WELCOME La Mama is nationally and internationally acknowledged as a crucible for cutting edge, contemporary theatre in Australia. It is treasured for its continued advocacy of those seeking to explore beyond mainstream theatre, producing work by theatre makers of all backgrounds and encouraging works that explore and deconstruct form, content and social issues. La Mama’s model of giving artists support that includes the provision of a rent-free venue, technical, marketing and administrative assistance, as well as up front funding and box-office return is unique in Australia. This model encourages innovation and creativity, supporting a large number of artists and works annually. La Mama is an open space and a creative community. We encourage all of our artists to take the opportunity to become a part of that community, to enter the space with a cooperative and generous spirit and to remember that each work is part of something much bigger than its own season. We look forward to working with you over the coming months and extend a warm welcome to La Mama!

TICKETING & FRONT OF HOUSE BOOKINGS Tickets can be pre-purchased with a credit card via www.lamama.com.au until 4pm on the day of the performance. Tickets can be reserved by phone on 9347 6142 (12pm – 4pm on weekdays / 2pm – 4pm on weekends) and paid for in cash at the door. Please note that due to the intimate nature of productions at La Mama most shows have a strict no latecomer policy and ticket holders will not be admitted after the show has commenced. We recommend that guests arrive at the theatre 15 minutes prior to the start time of the performance.

FRONT OF HOUSE La Mama provides a Front of House staff member for each performance during your season. Front of House staff represent La Mama and are the venue managers at each performance. They will arrive one hour prior to the start of your performance and will welcome guests, sell tickets and drinks and make complimentary tea and coffee for audience members. FOH staff are not responsible for locking up venue at end of night.

TECHNICAL SET/SPACE Please see the LA MAMA THEATRE GRID PLAN and use this to plot your set design. Please provide the House Managers with a copy of your design for the space at or prior to your production meeting. This can be as detailed as a scale plan or model, or as simple as a sketch, however your plan will need to clearly indicate how the seating will be configured and whether it will impede access, fire exits and heating/cooling systems. To view different seating configuration possibilities, please visit www.lamama.com.au/artist-resources You are welcome to paint the space any colour, however, you will need to discuss this with the House Managers at your production meeting. If you are sharing the space you also need to negotiate this with the other production team. Please note: production teams are not required to paint the space black after each season so please confirm the paint conditions for your bump in with the House Managers.

LIGHTING Please see the LA MAMA THEATRE GRID PLAN and LA MAMA TECHNICAL INVENTORY in order to plot your lighting design. There are replacement globes for all of La Mama始s lighting stock stored upstairs. Please see one of the House Managers if you require spare bubbles or light globes.

AUDIO There is a 4 channel sound desk and two powered speakers provided. There is a dual CD-player available or alternately you can use your own laptop or MP3 player to operate sound. Please note that if you are using recorded music you will need to notify the House Manager of this and an APRA fee of $55 will be deducted from your box office.

ADDITIONAL ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT Please provide a list of any electrical equipment you are bringing into the venue. If any items are not tested and tagged please contact house@lamama.com.au to organise for this to be done prior to bump in.

REHEARSALS & ACCESS Each team will be given access to the space and priority for rehearsal time in the season prior to their own. The House Manager will confirm available dates and times with you, will assign you a set of keys and will walk you through the venue as well as safety and lockup procedures prior to your first rehearsal.

BUMP IN You may bump in after the final performance of the season that precedes yours however you must negotiate a convenient time to do so with the House Manager. You will need to provide your own gaffa, electrical tape and lighting gels. There are ladders, tools and fastenings as well as paintbrushes, rollers and trays that you may use at both venues. The dressing room upstairs including kitchen, refrigerator, kettle and microwave are also available however please be mindful that this is a shared space and is used as an office during the day.

HEALTH & SAFETY La Mama is committed to providing an environment where artists can take creative risks safely, free of accidents, injuries or illness. Please notify the House Manager of any potentially hazardous situations or risks so that they can assist in the preparation of an appropriate safety plan. In the case of any accidents or near misses, artists are required to report to the House Manager as soon as possible and complete an incident report form.

BUMP OUT Bump out will need to take place on the evening of your final performance. Please take all props, costumes, set items and rubbish with you and ensure nothing is left in the space, the dressing room or the fridges. You are also required to sweep the theatre as well as clean and vacuum the dressing room. The House Managers will send you a Bump Out list prior to your last weekend.

SUSTAINABILITY La Mama is committed to becoming a more sustainable organisation and setting an example in our community through our energy use and waste management practices. For example, we are replacing current fittings with more eco- friendly options, plan to experiment with LED lighting, and we will trial electronic show programs to reduce our paper consumption. We are currently looking at solar power as an alternative power supply. In line with this, all electric appliances are to be turned off when nobody is using the space, theatre lights are not to be used during rehearsals, and recycling bins are to be used correctly.
