About the University Press The University Press is the award-winning newspaper published by the students at Lamar University, Beaumont, a member of the Texas State University System. 6,000 copies of each issue are distributed each Thursday at more than 40 on-and-off-campus locations with a continually growing list of more locations throughout the community. Our current distribution includes 30 on campus locations with many others being in Downtown, South and West End areas of Beaumont. The UP (as we are known since 1971, we began as the ) is widely read by students, faculty, staff, alumni, families, fans and prospetive students in both print and online at lamaruniversitypress.com for weekly updates and social media feeds of events, sports and news. UPbeat magazine is inserted at the end of every semester and provides insightful features, in-depth stories, brilliant art and photography of students, faculty, staff and the Lamar community at large. The UP Orientation issue is produced for incoming and prospective students. It is given out on campus during orientation and mailed to over 3,000 students each August.

Dear UP Advertiser, It’s great to be a Cardinal supporter! Whether it’s reading about students, finding a great place to eat near campus, discovering a place to catch live music on a Saturday, or where to see a brilliant art exhibition, The University Press is a definite presence throughout the Southeast Texas community. To help connect to this community and surroundings, the students, faculty and staff of Lamar University turn to the UP as their premier source of news, stories and events. College newspapers and media thrive on campuses across the country. Students 18-24 are often more likely to read or follow campus media then other for a simple reason–they’re in it. Obviously, some do it better than others. The UP is one of the best there is. Publishing since 1923, Lamar students have won more than 1,000 awards for incisive and relevent journalism, advertising design and photography, from such organzations as the Society of Professional Journalists, the Associated Press Managing Editors (13 times!), Southwestern Journalism Congress and the Texas Incollegiate Press Association. Through our weekly print edition published each semester and with popularity of our growing website and social media followers, the UP reaches thousands of readers in the community and beyond. A changing economy keeps every one with an eye on their budget and one constant in the Southeast Texas community is that Lamar University contributes over $238 million annually to the local economy. The experienced students and staff of the UP can provide you with a direct outlet to the campus and these consumers. Please take a look at the 2015-2016 media kit to learn more about the exciting advertising opportunities available to you here at the UP and how you can support Lamar students. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our office. We look forward to working with you! Sincerely, Stephan Malick Assistant Director for Student Publications smalick@lamar.edu
