THE GOURMET BOYS
CHRISTMAS IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER, SO WE’VE CHOSEN TO HIGHLIGHT THREE OF OUR FAVOURITE EATERIES FROM 2021 AND SHOW YOU WHAT THEY HAVE ON OFFER THIS CHRISTMAS TO TEMPT YOUR TASTEBUDS. CYPRUS AVENUE
Celebrate Christmas with friends and family this year at Cyprus Avenue and let them take care of you with their top-notch food and drink, relaxed surroundings, and attentive, friendly service. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day over the festive period, and have a full vegan and vegetarian menu available upon request as part of their Christmas set menu.
To begin, why not try one of our favourite Cyprus Avenue dishes, the Crispy Duck Pancakes, with hoisin, pineapple and black butter marmalade. We also can’t wait to try the Goats Cheese & Butternut Squash Tart, with pumpkin seed salad. As a festive main course, it would be hard to beat Cyprus Avenue’s Irish Turkey Crown, with cranberry stuffing, ham hock fritter with all the trimmings, but if you fancy ringing the changes, the Mixed Grill of East Coast Seafood (plaice, hake, cod, shellfish) with CA butter is hard to beat, and for a plant-based meal the CA Style Nut Roast, with vegetables, potatoes & vegan gravy is a hearty winter warmer.
Make sure you leave room for one of Cyprus Avenue’s stunning desserts. We love the sound of the Black Forest Delice, with pistachio and macarons, the Bramble Panna Cotta with CA sloe gin granita, and honeycomb granola, and of course Ma Brady’s Christmas Pudding with Darroze Armagnac Custard: if it ain’t broke!
With Lunch at £29 and Dinner at £35, Cyprus Avenue is offering one of the very best Christmas Menus in Belfast.
CYPRUS AVENUE
NO.14 GEORGIAN HOUSE
No.14 in Comber is a restaurant of discovery and delight, where chef Jim Mulholland has found his home within the walls of the beautiful Georgian House.
Jim has a highly devoted team behind him who are ready to take you on a
‘flavour journey’ and explore the hidden gems of local produce. The Christmas
Menu, a celebration of culinary creativity, starts on 30th November. Dishes are
NO.14 GEORGIAN HOUSE
individually priced and a two course lunch is available at £15 per head.
As well as the more traditional Festive Fare, No.14 will be offering some outstanding alternatives, such as Pressed Rabbit Terrine with wild sorrel, toffee parsnip and pear, or Pigeon and Roast Artichoke Pithivier with girolles as starters, and Skeganore Duck with edamame, beetroot, port and orange, or Dexter Fillet with Roscoff onion, marrow butter, smoked garlic, salsify and beef cheek as mains - all accompanied, naturally, by those glorious little Comber potatoes. And if your mouth isn’t already watering, the dessert of Dark Chocolate with hazelnut praline, salted milk ice cream and cherry should seal the deal!
SHED BISTRO
and since then has been our “go to” eatery on the Ormeau Road. It was taken over in 2018 by the amazing husband and wife team of Jonny and Christina Taylor, and in 2019 the restaurant won two prestigious awards-Bistro of the Year for Northern Ireland in the NI Food Awards, and Casual
Dining of the Year in Co Antrim in the NI Hospitality Awards. In 2021, after a major refurbishment, Shed reopened and has gone from strength to strength. The Christmas menu is stunning, and is available Tuesday to Thursday: 2 Courses £23.95/ 3 Courses £27.95, and Friday to Sunday: 2 Courses £25.95/ 3 Courses £29.95 We love the festive sounding Apple Cider, Thyme & White Onion Soup with Smoked Applewood Crute to begin, or perhaps the Jawbox Gin Cured Salmon with Crème Fraîche, Dill, Grapefruit & Caper Berries. For mains, the Fillet of Hake with Lemon & Herb Pangratatta, Herb Cream Sauce would be a light alternative to the ubiquitous roast dinner, and the Brie, Cranberry and Chestnut Strudel with roasted potatoes, root vegetables, mashed potato, and shredded sprouts is a filling Vegetarian alternative.
For afters, the Mulled Apple and Mixed Berry Crumble with Milk Ice Cream, or the Sticky Toffee Pudding with Toffee Sauce & Vanilla Ice Cream would be the perfect ‘comfort food’ ending to a delicious Yuletide Feast.
