HOLY CHIC

Los Angeles’s most stylish new sanctuary is rooted in wellness and community.

BY SAMANTHA BROOKS

During those first few weeks of the pandemic, it was almost impossible not to explore the world of virtual fitness. Gym rats and couch potatoes alike were wooed by the anytime/all-the-time schedule, the variety… the absence of having to fight traffic and find parking in order to get to the class on time. However, years later, and we’re all remembering how great it can feel to leave the house for everything from a workout to actually going to work.

Understanding the human need to build community, Heimat has opened what might be the city’s most beautiful and versatile social wellness space. Located at the corner of La Brea and Romaine Street, the centrally located five-story, 75,000-square-foot structure is rooted in wellness. Floor one features a lobby and juice bar; an amphitheater-style spin studio that can also host screenings; a boot camp room with boxing bags and Technogym’s Skillrun treadmills and benches; a group fitness room for strength and movement classes; and light-filled spaces with a range of cardio machines and weights, as well as potted succulents and jellyfish lantern chandeliers. On floor two, you’ll find locker rooms— amenities include spacious showers with private changing areas and Dyson styling tools—as well as the spa and nail salon. Continue walking up the stairs— which feature graffiti courtesy of artist Mr. Brainwash—and you’ll hit the third floor, complete with yoga room, Pilates reformer room, Technogym Kinesis-wall room, additional strength machines, personal training and physical therapy areas, and stretching space.

HEIMAT’S PILATES STUDIO

The restaurant Mother Tongue, from Michelin-starred chef Michael Mina, is open to the public and features a menu of global comfort foods made clean by focusing on the dishes’ nutritional benefits. The vibrant space commands indoor and outdoor areas on the fourth floor, which it also shares with the members-only rooftop area, outfitted with a swimming pool, plush lounge chairs, cabanas, and fitness deck.

Come to the fifth floor and discover the social co-working space, which includes a mix of circular booths, tables and chairs, lounges, a library, and even a kitchen. Martin Brudnizki (The Pendry West Hollywood) designed floors four and five, and the spaces are a plush, inviting, colorful, and welcome departure from the generic co-working spaces or coffee shops many of us were exiled to when working from home started to feel confining.

Club membership starts at $350/ month, with parking (valet only) being $5 per visit or $30 monthly. All classes (everything from reformer Pilates, barre, and yoga to bootcamp, spin, and strength) are included with membership and can be booked in advance on the app. To encourage a sense of community, Heimat also has a robust range of programming—everything from meditation, breathwork sessions, and astrology workshops to comedy shows and live music on the pool deck. heimat.com
