THU DUC ART COLLEGE - THIRD YEAR PROJECT
Thu Duc Art College, which located adjacent to the transit line of HCMC and has the view of Rock Lake. According to these features, the main mission of the architect is to separate the function of 2 areas: theory - study autonomy area (QUIET) and workshop design area, practicing (NOISE). The biggest purpose of the architecture is using the linear line to divide this construction into 2 parts that both connect with the college Hall (attracts more viewers), the Rock Lake cut-screen structure (the final highlight), library and self-study area (the key part of the college). The separated line is made of the concrete wall that has the basic solid-hollow structure design. This would divide the construction into 2 areas: quiet area and noise area, and the theoretical and practice areas would be placed respectively

The Hall block uses the hot-color materials, the outer layout is Poly Carbonate opaque glass to create an impressive layering effect that attracts viewers The library space is created with a special structure (down - horizontal - up). The compass roses are also combined with the structure in order to separate the functional area of the library. These features would help to enhance the solid characteristic of the multi-glass library. The front face is generated to exploit the horizon line that cut in and out scenes

The Jesuit Ancient house Design Competition - the oldest villa of Cebu - is one of the parts of the International Workshop program within the study of Cebu traditional houses in Philippines. The aim of this competition firstly concentrates on Cebu ancient house investigation, especially its diversity, such as: Spanish, America, etc. Secondly, the purpose is about to transfer the Cebu traditional house to a private museum which has a long history within many fluctuations of a Chinese family through periods: from the Spanish colonialists to Japanese fascists, or the cultural interference with America, and at the present, an iron factory is surrounded to hide the Cebu ancient house, through the previous year it could have been destroyed by Japanese fascists. According to the historical features and other local traits, the museum is supposed to be built to publicize a special history of this house, or lots of interesting things of Padrian - the first settle place of Cebu civilians in Philippines. This throw down a challenge for architects to tackle the sustainability issue, attraction, cultural interference and security when the construction could be usable
14/ 65
The ideal is created due to the combination of many factors likes the Chinese roof with the rhythms of tiles that one again recreate below the facade of museum which has the cables on. The cables would light on that make the highlight for the facade of the construction. Columns and the rhythms of arches constantly appear in Jesuit house with the Spanish architecture that creates long corridors and sculptural artifacts would be displayed on the outside of the museum to generate an open space outside the museum's landscaping area. The basic material is the Philippines rattan that combines with steel (in pace material), and this would be easy to replace the other material when .the old material cannot be used anymore

The wall surface is made of the exploited wood from many local houses of Boljoon ancient house, Philippines.

The architecture workshop is the topic about how to use straw in space design in order to render an interesting experience in 1.2 x1.2 meters space with a certain amount of straw and related materials. Architect would experience when try to use straw of the whole structure that could stand under pressure, with the combination of material sensitivity, using lighting system, and especially the straw comes from crops in Kansai. These straw crops and flowers surround the Biwa Lake area and unfortunately after harvest, no one use them. Hence, the work was implemented in about 2 days, from creating new ideal, deployment, making concept model to executing the 1:1 model for the assignment protection. That was an practice experience with a chance to making teamwork with many different countries with each specific .cultures: Vietnam, Japanese, Spanish, Philippines
18/ 65
The ideal came from the purpose of generating a quiet space where people can express their soul into the meditation. The entrance was designed to be smaller, the body structure was inspired by the bird’s nest with straw - a pure artwork of nature. The main frames were made of the already flatten reeds that twisted together, moreover, the straw bundle was closely tied to generate traction to balance the frame system. This not only created a highlight of lighting filter from the dome rooflight but also generated an quiet atmosphere that people could enjoy in this construction. Once recreate the material world, once refresh our soul

La Collina was designed Terunobu Fujimori in 2015. La Collina means hill in Italian, giving a prominence of the harmony between sceneries for form to material. As could be seen for the pyramid blocks, mountainous landscape in Shiga was just slightly to appear. Low roof was unobtrusive and brought the horizon into the eyesight, roof covering material and creating landscape is plants and shrubs have the same color, the nature changed respectively due to seasons and made the harmony between the construction and scenery. Spring - green, Summer - colorful, Autumn - yellow, Winter - snowy. All of them have created a complex surrounding around agriculture areas‌ generated a close space for exhibition

Setre Marina Biwako was designed by Ryuichi Ashizawa (MAD Architect) near the Biwa Lake (Otsu). The most interesting part of this hotel is the Chapel (Sound of Wind) which has the structure that opposite to the hotel’s shape. It is assumed a space filled with strong natural wind blowing from Lake Biwa. In the daily mass area, the scenery of Biwa Lake is in the eyesight, soften human soul by all senses of interaction

OPTION 1: THE CONCEPT IS THE MOUNTAIN ELEMENT OF THE ACIENT BUILDING AND ARCHITECTURE OF CHAMPA PEOPLE. THERE ARE MANY COURTYARDS THAT IS ALTERNATINGTHE CENTER, WHICH WILL CREATE A LIVING AREA FOR THE CHAMPA COMMUNITY. THE VIEW CAN BE OPENED UP IN ORDER TO SEE THE CENTER OF NHON HOI VILLAGE AND BUNG BINH THIEN
OPTION 2: THE CONCEPT IS A VILLAGE OF CHAMPA THAT IS A COMBINATION OF MANY CRUCIAL ELEMENTS OF THE CHAMPA CULTURE VILLAGE (PALEI). THE RHYTHM ELEMENT IS CONSTANTLY CREATED AND FOLLOWED TO THE CURVILINEAR LINES WHICH MARKS VITAL POSITIONS THAT TURN AROUND A HEAD CENTER. THE INTERSECTION OF THE PATHS ARE ARRANGED FESTIVE COURTYARDS, ACTIVITIES, GOOD VIEW, LINKED TO THE LANDSCAPE AXIS OF BUNG BINH THIEN
OPTION 3: THE CONCEPT IS A BIG STILT HOUSE OF CHAMPA. THIS IS A SLOPING ROOF COLLECTION OF THE ANCIENT CHAMPA THAT LOCATES AROUND THE BUNG BINH THIEN AREA AND RUNS ALONG THE CONSTRUCTION TO MAINTAIN THE WEST-EAST AXIS OF CHAMPA CULTURE. THE FUNCTIONAL BLOCKS PLACED AROUND THE CENTER IS THE MAIN EXHIBITION HALL. THE MAIN ENTRANCE IS ON THE SOUTH, THE SECONDARY ENTRANCE IS ON THE NORTH AND THE FUNCTIONAL BLOCKS WILL BE PLACED ALONG WITH THE WEST-EAST AXIS. THE USUAL LIVING BLOCKS FOR CHAMPA PEOPLE ARE SEPERATED WITHIN GREENERY AS THE CHAMPA PALEI OUTLINE OF SOUTHWEST. THE WEST-EAST AXIS CURVES AND SPLITS OFF THE MAIN CENTER TO CREATE A HIGHLIGHT FOR IT AND SUPPORT A GOOD VIEW FOR THE LOCAL PEOPLE
WITH THE PURPOSE OF CREATING THE SIMILARITY OF THE LOCAL SCRENERIES BETWEEN ANCIENT CHAMPA HOUSES, A LAYOUT OF TRIPLE-PITCHED ROOF WOULE BE CREATED ON THE CONSTRUCTION AXIS AND SPILTED OFF AT THE CENTER HOUSE. THE MAIN BLOCK WOULD BE THE EXHIBITION HALL TO CONCISELY RECREATE ANCIENT LIFE OF CHAMPA COMMUNITY LIVING IN THE SOUTHWEST
CONCEPT:
CHAMPA CIVILIANS IN AN GIANG PROVINCE HAVE THEIR OWN CHARACTERISTICS, ESPECIALLY IN THEIR LIVING STYLE, ART AND CULTURE, MANUAL WORKS AND ARCHITECTURE, ETC. THEREFORE, TO COMPARED WITH THE CHAMPA COMMUNITY IN BINH THUAN, THE WAY PEOPLE IN AN GIANG ADAPT TO THE SOUTHWEST CONDITIONS IS TOTALLY DIFFERENT: THE PALEI RESIDENCES ALONG RIVER-SIDE WITHIN THE STILT HOUSES AND THE CANALS THAT DOCK NEARBY THE EXCLUSIVE ISLAM CATHEDRAL. ALL OF THESE BEAUTIFUL LANDSCAPES ARE JUST LIKELY TO HIDE THEMSELVES BEHIND THE SCENERY OF YOUNG LADIES IN THE TRADITIONAL COSTUMES, CHILDREN PLAY UNDER THE STILT HOUSES, THE WEAVING MACHINES ARE STILL WORKING EVERY DAY OR THE KORAN FROM THE CATHEDRAL OF MUSLIMS IN EVERY PEACEFUL EVENING… CONSEQUENTLY, THIS THING HAS JUST TOUCHED THE CREATIVE IDEAL OF A CULTURAL CENTER THAT WOULD RENDER A HARMONY PICTURE WITH CHAMPA PALEI AND A BIG STILT HOUSE, IT WOULD BE SUCH A PERFECT PLACE TO MEET THE HUMAN’S DEMANDS AND TO HEAR THE SOUND OF THE SOFTLY STREAM OF RIVER IN BUNG BINH THIEN. PALEI: “MOUNTAIN IN THE SOUTH, RIVER IN THE NORTH, HIGH IN THE WEST, LOW IN THE EAST”

The thatched roof is designed to follow the shape of the outer vector of the structure and the contemporary language is made to go across the hall that creates a canopy on the main entrance. However, the thatched roof has some differences when it gradually slopes down and be a part of the inside structure. Within the exhibits placed inside the hall, this place re-creates the living place of ancient Champa in An Giang. This could generate the contrast between contemporary and traditional of the construction that attracts participants
