Designing a process and not a concrete result: In designing a process we develop a collection of mathematical and geometric relationships creating processes and systems (algorithms), which allow us to explore more than one result, with certain previously established design premises. A bench normally is designed to be placed in public spaces. In this case, the bench designed throught parametric design, is located indoors of a loft, which one, has been designed too for the ocasion. A series of vertical slices are put in paralel, following a guide curve. The different sections of these slices configure a sinuous and organic whole to the bench, where its shape is adapted to the differents postures that people take when they are sit to rest or simply spare time.

In design loft The loft has been designed as a big diaphanous space illuminated by huge windows and build by basic materials such as bricks, timber, glass, ceramic and steel. The finishes are designed with light colours to give the sensation of a width and clear space.

place

Eden (Australia)

The vision for the location revolved around the idea of usability, a place to meet and interact with others, to be used by the community, which could in turn become a beacon; but at the same time, it should be place that needed to be discovered, a place which would serve as a break from the city and its fast paced environment. As a result, it was opted for a calm beach, west to the city of Eden. PROGRAM The proposed intercession will allow a direct relation with the sea, via means of circular sites and promenades. Additionally, the numerous light and air filters will grant the opportunity to find a more intimate place among the open and infinite space. There are various characteristics, both defined and diluted, which starts a visual dialogue with the sea, the breeze, the waves and the light. 1. Eden Pavillion. The most tangible space will be dedicated to work and/or exhibition, providing a refuge and a place for meditation, safe from the elements and the exterior. 2. Multidisciplinary Space. Next, up in the scale of solidity, would be dedicated to projection and performance. This element will not provide shelter, but instead will allow video projection or to carry out a play. 3. Meditation Room. Following will be the space that relates directly with the wind, that private place in the middle of the ocean. 4. Beacon. Reaching the ethereal realm, the penultimate location will be in charge of providing a light reference for the whole area, creating a light beacon, a safe point among the darkness and the sea. 5. Infinity Promenade. Finally, the eternal platform, the ultimate link between the land and the sea, as well as the people with the space or the absence of tangibility.

The purpose of the project consists of transforming a wine cellar with strong industrial character and a definitely productive use, in a wine vault with more prestige by giving it a higher quality in its products, supported by several facilities such as restaurant, spa, accommodation, etc., that together with the landscape, it becomes a suitable set for the development of the enotourism. It has been decided to fragment the program, staying the pre-existence of the wine cellar place of production and interpretation of the wine, whereas the amusement area and accommodation is located in the part of the hillock, regenerating a residual space. There have been generated two parallel itineraries, where people can interact with the landscape along all the trip. It is used architecture excavated partly of the wine cellar, specifically in the room of upbringing and in the building dedicated to the amusement. The last one it is adapted to the level lines of the area, with the idea of getting in the same one and of disappearing under vineyards covering.

Hybrid project of apartments and Centre of Quarter in a lot located in the quarter of the Cabanyal, in the old town setting and very close to the promenade and the sea. The project tries to restructure the area, by means of the organization and dispersion of the leafy vegetable mass that at present occupies the lot and which presents untidiness. There has been projected a set of apartments for young people to rent in building in height. This building has generous common spaces of relation and circulation, thought so that its occupants interactive amongthemselvesdesignedwithdifferenttypologyofrooms, allowing to adapt itself to the needs of the user. All the housings are with open space and faced on the south. The building in height allows a closing of perspective, hiding the mediators of the pre-existences. A few big hollows are opened in its facade and allow the visual communication with the vegetable mass. The same it is claimed on the ground and first floor with the predominance of big glazed surfaces that they allow to see the new area regenerated behind the building. Opposite the building in height and on the first floor a set of tutelary apartments is located for old people, giving safety by means of a fence that forms a private enclosure designed entirely without any architectural barriers. The set of the project is completed by a Centre of Quarter that will serve as an articulator and relation issue among the different generational societies, where all kinds of facilities and equipment of support to the apartments will be installed.

The design of the apartments is based on the idea “loft where it is pursued the biggest diaphanous space in its interior. This space remains organized by means of a few furniture modules as islands that gather all the facilities and equipment. One gains access to the apartments across wide patios that, together with the rest of common spaces, form an exceptional aspect to the building.

Co FIRE DEPARTMENT HEADQUARTERS 05 architectural competition personal growth year

San Francisco, (EE.UU.)

The open competition proposes the creation of the Firemen’s Base station for the city of SanFrancisco that serves not only to centralize and to improve the offered service but also as a gift and demonstration of gratitude of the city towards this body, especially for its performance opposite to the important fire of 1906. The privileged situation of the lot, along with the fact of being exempt from adjacent buildings, makes the building that occupies it, be easily perceptible from the distance, especially across the San Francisco Bay Bridge, main rolled access of the city. This takes a special relevance in the project, being the purpose that the building turns into an icon of the city and therefore, is part of its skyline. Along with the suitability of the lot, the form, the space, the scale and especially, the light that affects on the city of San Francisco are the main characteristics of the design. The concept of the project comes from the dimensions and form of the lot. A rectangular platform, with a big opening in its central area, rises in suspension on the base. Two arms delimit sideways the central opening, simultaneously that serve as connection between two main parts of the building, east and west extreme.

programme of building In the west extreme it is located the part of the program destined for barracks and residence placed on the ground floor and the first floor respectively. While the barracks is oriented towards the central courtyard, the part destined for free time and entertainment of the residence over turns, across a big look out, to the avenue The Embarcadero. In the east extreme, in front of the bay of SanFrancisco, it rises of imposing form, a rectangular prism that acts like counterpoint of the domineering horizontal of the set. On top of this prism the head office of control and command is located, from which the whole city can be seen and where the emergencies are coordinated. On the first floor a big look out is projected on the bay and on the ground floor the gymnasium and the swimming pool is located. In the central part, there is a wide opencast area where different facilities are located for the development of sports activities and training.

Pa parametric design The weft of the lattice has been designed by means of the geometry “voronoi based on the bisection among points. It is obtained a wire structure that later will be extruded and smoothed. It has been made with Grasshopper for Rhinoceros.

texture inspiration To provide greater weightlessness and soften the visual impact of the vertical body, it has projected a kind of inspired lattice structure resulting from a river stone eroded by water. It is precisely the water, the main element that mutually relate the city of San Francisco with the central fire station.

BenifaiĂł (Valencia), Spain

The tower Mussa, also known as the l’Horta tower, is a construction of Arab origin, probably of the 12th or 13th century. It is placed at few metres to the northwest of the town of Benifaió. These kinds of towers were used as a kind of protection to small farmhouses and all together were part of the defense belt of Valencia city. The tower presents a damaged state so a project of rehabilitation is proposed based on different phases, being the first phase one of consolidation and structural reinforcement. The facades show a solid garden wall that is damaged principally in its low third due to the absorption, for capillarity, of the water contained in the area and for the vegetation that has been introducing its roots in the proper mortar. In the top part of the tower, there are the battlements, which has a very damaged aspect either because of attacks, natural erosion or for adaptations to new uses along its history. Inside, it is completely diaphanous because of the disappearance of its floor structure ones and it is only supported a structural body composed by three arches superposed that contribute stability to the tower.

Kobe (Japรณn)

Reproduction of a classic figure of the architecture as the house 4x4 of Tadao Ando, constructed in 2003. The model has been realized by Revit by means of the system BIM (Building Information Modeling). The house is located opposite to the Hyogo coasts, in the outskirts of Kobe (Japan). The housing is located in an area of 5 x 5meters, fundamental determinant at the moment of projecting the design. The housing develops in vertical, occupying in plant the minimum space of 4x4 meters, composed by (cellar, ground floor and three high plants). In the cellar it remains the store, on the ground floor accesses and cleaning, on the first floor the bedroom, on the second floor there is a study and on the third one the living room and the kitchen. The spaces are practically closed in three of its sides, and they are opened practically in its entirety towards the Hyogo bay. The main materials of the housing are the concrete, the steel, the glass and the wood.

The concept comes from the archetype of a conventional house with covering to three waters. The planes that shape the covering extend up to cutting all the vertical planes, both exterior closings and interior distribution. Thus it achieves in each of its elevations, that the height of its closings changes progressively with regard to the rest of closings. This heights difference, along with the swerve of some of the closings, breaks the strong geometry by means of straight and orthogonal planes between themselves, contributing an organic tone that does that the house harmonizes with the environment. Thereisatraditionalfunctionalprogramcomposedprincipallyfordiningroom is, cooks, bedrooms and baths, quite solved in the same level, with openings studied towards the exterior that allow different perspectives of the environment. The roof and the closings are covered with the same materiality, white stucco, contributing to the set the sensation of simplicity and purity.

It is a question of an order for a traditional rural house in a small village of the interior of Teruel. The lot limited by three streets, is one of big dimensions and then it allows the housing to have an area of plot reserved to garden. The client insisted on having a wide room for the dining room opened to the interior garden of the plot, so that it was a wide and open space as well as a private room. Two proposals are made; option 1_ to be completely diaphanous dining room and at double height. option 2_ to be diaphanous dining room and to double height, but with a constructive element (top patio) that divides being dining room in two areas.

In interior design Two linear lights highlight the longitudinal axis of the space, whereas a concrete chimney, arranged transversely it separates the area of reading of the rest from the living-dining room.

It consists of trying to give, an apartment in a multi-family housing unit, a new fresher appearance. The original distribution of the building arranges stays of limited and closed dimensions. Simultaneously, a furniture excess in the dining room, transmits a loaded and heavy atmosphere. The client tries to make the changes for phases, so that, firstly it is made a study of transformation of the dining room, in order to obtain an atmosphere that transmits greater calmness, serenity and relaxation. For a later phase a redistribution of some stays is made in order to give greater spaciousness to the housing. The kitchen is opened to the dining room and one of the rooms is modified, transferring part of this one also to the dining room. This way a more open and diaphanous space is obtained.
