During this special Art & Politics Season, we bring international culture to the heart of Lancaster, returning to The Storey for our inaugural Festival of Questions from 2nd to the 20th of February.

Through talks, panel discussions and participatory events, ‘FestQ’ will add context to our Spring programme where an exciting cluster of presentations have been chosen to reflect the political, economic and cultural questions of our time.

Do join us to explore how culture can frame our conversations and help us make sense of the world.

Invited commentators like Melissa Benn and Owen Jones, and those with real-life experience together with you, our patrons I’m sure will make for a rich and inspiring three weeks in February.

Featuring academics, thinkers, writers and bright sparks from across the political spectrum, 'FestQ' speakers include Melissa Benn, Alvin Carpio, David Goodhart, Sarfraz Manzoor, Owen Jones and David Kynaston.

As well as keynote lectures, many events event during the festival are prompted by a question, such as: ‘Do Young People Stand a Chance in Modern Britain?’

‘The War in Syria: How Should the World Respond?’

When does your trash stop being your trash? A year’s worth of real and virtual trash everything that Belgian artist Sarah Vanhee would have normally discarded during 12 months of living and working - comes back. A moving exploration of consumer loyalty, western values and our ongoing denial of the waste we create.

This three-day workshop offers an insight into strategies and methodologies employed by Gob Squad when creating new work. The workshop will explore the company's approach to using text, video and site in creating touching, humorous and confessional performance works which mix reality with fiction. An interactive sound installation containing the oral histories of 10 ordinary people who have been buried in Syrian gardens. Each narrative has been carefully constructed with the friends and family members of the deceased to retell their stories as they themselves would have recounted it. Award winning theatre maker Andy Smith tells a tale of a man from a city in the north of England, and all that has happened here, there and everywhere in the last 80 years.

Ticket price A Based on the award winning novel by Ágota Kristóf and set during WW2, The Notebook tells the story of a pair of twin brothers evacuated to their impoverished grandmother’s farm in order to shelter from the conflict. These unnamed children are social outsiders, mavericks who survive and understand the world by a harsh private code. As the war deepens, the brothers are slowly revealed as struggling moralists, trying to live by consistent principles in a Central Europe crumbling into cruelty and opportunism.

When does your trash stop being your trash? A year’s worth of real and virtual trash everything that Belgian artist Sarah Vanhee would have normally discarded during 12 months of living and working - comes back. A moving exploration of consumer loyalty, western values and our ongoing denial of the waste we create.

This three-day workshop offers an insight into strategies and methodologies employed by Gob Squad when creating new work. The workshop will explore the company's approach to using text, video and site in creating touching, humorous and confessional performance works which mix reality with fiction. Enter a cabin built from the same materials as the temporary detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, with the internal dimensions of a detainee’s cell. An interactive sound installation containing the oral histories of 10 ordinary people who have been buried in Syrian gardens. Each narrative has been carefully constructed with the friends and family members of the deceased to retell their stories as they themselves would have recounted it. Imagine a world that exists solely as a train. Imagine entering a terrible nightmare in which those who you assume are dead tell you what your future might bring you. Ticket price A Based on the award winning novel by Ágota Kristóf and set during WW2, The Notebook tells the story of a pair of twin brothers evacuated to their impoverished grandmother’s farm in order to shelter from the conflict.
