Salt Ayre Look out kids, the party starts here! Salt Ayre Sports Centre’s Crazy Inflatable Fun Party is a totally new way of having fun in the pool.

During the 2 hours of mayhem you’ll be able to enjoy racing along the giant inflatable obstacle course as well as using our new range of floats that come in all shapes and sizes. Our water slide and spa pool will also be open for the duration of the session. There will also be music, organised fun games and prizes that are all included in the price. Please note that you CANNOT book this activity, it is pay on the day only. Tickets will be on sale from 9.45am on the day. To use the water slide you must be a minimum height of 1.3m.

February 2012 Programme Come and join Lancaster City Council for a week of exciting activities that are guaranteed to keep you busy during the half term holiday. What better way to spend your holiday than sprinting from one workshop to the next with our action packed programme of events? With so much on offer, we know you’ll be stuck for choice! New for this half term is the amazing live action computer game called “Blue, Green, Yellow, Dead “ where you can become part of the action as you take on the zombies in a crazy maze. For the more creative types, new activities such as fantastic funny faces, animal puppet making and ugly bug house making should keep you busy. Whatever you decide to try this holiday, you’re sure to have lots of fun, make new friends and have a truly memorable experience.

Please note that each workshop has different requirements e.g. age, specific clothing, venues vary and transport is sometimes provided. Please see each workshop individually. Please also note that due to some workshops being outdoors they are weather dependant and can be cancelled on the day. Activities for under 8 year olds Throughout our brochure you will find an increased number of workshops for 4 to 7 year olds. PLEASE NOTE: A responsible adult must stay on site during any workshop for children under 8 years old. Parents are expected to take part with their child in some workshops. Booking Information Bookings can be taken in three ways: • In person (from Monday 23 January) • By post (from Monday 23 January) • By phone (from Monday 23 January) Please note that booking is required for all activities in this programme including all FREE activities. Any activities that are provided at Carnforth, Heysham and Hornby swimming pools must be booked directly with them during their normal opening hours. 1. To book and pay in person Bookings with cash and card payments can be made in person by visiting Salt Ayre Sports Centre between 8am and 9pm Monday to Friday, or between 8am and 6pm Saturday and Sunday. Be sure to have a fully completed booking form for each applicant and your payment.

2. To book and pay by postal application (no cash, cheques only) 1. Cheques are the only means of payment when applying by post. 2. Firstly, fully complete a booking form (you will find two forms at the centre pages of this booklet). Use only one form per person. 3. Calculate the cost of the activities booked. 4. Across your cheque, write in words “An amount not to exceed £...” 5. Make the cheque payable to Lancaster City Council and sign the cheque. We will write in the final amount and send you your receipt. 6. Make sure you have signed and dated the declaration.

Additional Information Activity information - We strongly advise that all participants wear suitable clothing for the activity that they are due to take part in. Information about suitable clothing or requirements for each session can be found in pages 10 to 15. Disabled access - Where possible, we use premises which are fully accessible. A-Z - Activity Guide Animal puppet show at Happy Mount Park NEW and FREE! Show your creative side and make some amazing colourful animal puppets. You’ll get the opportunity to perform a small show to your parents/guardians at the end of the session to show them what you’ve created. We supply all the materials - you provide the imagination.

Archery – Family fun NEW! If you fancy becoming the next Robin Hood, why not come along and try your hand at archery? We will teach you all the skills needed to hit the board every time. You will take part in team games, individual games, scoring games and balloon popping. This course is ideal for beginners.

Badge swim You can swim up to 5,000 meters in our badge swim session. Come and have a go and see how far you can swim. A badge and certificate are included in the price. Under 8s must be supervised in the building at all times by a responsible person of at least 16 years of age.

“Blue, Green, Yellow, Dead” – Live action zombie computer game NEW! It's dark and claustrophobic but you have a mission - find three vials - blue, green and yellow. If you don't you could end up dead! In this amazing live action computer game, you’re armed with a high quality paintball gun and have to survive using the best of your abilities. There’s trapdoors, dead-ends and zombies to confuse you. Have you got what it takes to make sure that your game is not over? Please note that the paintball guns are only used to shoot zombies (not each other). You must be of a reasonable level of fitness to participate in this activity.

Cycle games NEW! If you know how to cycle, then why not try the challenge of playing games whilst riding your bike? Enjoy competing in pairs or in teams with activities such as the slalom and cone-heads to name but a few. Challenge yourself to do the balance box and many more exciting games in this fun and active session. This session takes place indoors, so the weather can’t spoil the fun.

Diving school Learn how to dive with our fully qualified swimming teacher. Learn how to perform sitting, standing dives, dive through hoops and dive down to the bottom of the deep end for treasure. All participants must be competent in deep water.

Dodgeball You’ve seen the movie now come down to Salt Ayre and try it for yourself. Not only will you learn and practice the skills required, but this fun and crazy session will allow you to put those skills into the Dodgeball game format. So get yourself to Salt Ayre Sports Centre to try something a little different and have a really great time. 6


Did you know? All of our holiday activities are run by trained professionals who are experts at working with young people. Whatever you get up to this half term, rest assured that you will be in safe hands! Extreme sports – indoor skydiving / snowboarding / climbing / luging Calling all adrenaline junkies! Test your nerves with two indoor skydives at Airkix (airkix.com) where you’ll experience the thrill of skydiving indoors*. After you’ve landed it’s time to hit the slopes at Chill Factore with an hour of snowboarding lessons, a climbing wall experience and finally a return to the slopes with a fun luging session. All the activities are supervised by experienced, qualified coaches and all the equipment is supplied. * To take your skydiving experience to the max, why not dare to try the high-flyer challenge using a 30ft high chamber? If you are up for it, this experience will cost an extra £5 per person on the day.

Fantastic funny faces NEW!

Family inflatable fun NEW! Salt Ayre Sports Centre’s brand new inflatable obstacle course is great for kids, but this special session lets mums and dads join in on the fun. As well as the obstacle course, there’s floats, games and the water slide to keep everyone happy.

Fencing Come and learn the noble art of fencing and take your first steps to becoming the next Musketeer “all for one and one for all”. This introductory session will teach you all the correct techniques you will need to complete the fencing competition at the end of the session. This course is ideal for beginners.

Fire building at Regent Park NEW! Experience the thrill of building safe fires, toast marshmallows and make a delicious s’more (marshmallow biscuit).

Floats and inflatables party at Heysham Pool Have lots of fun this February at our special pool party. Bring your own floats, inflatables and toys or enjoy the ones provided at the pool and splash along to the freshest pop music. Under 8s must be supervised in the water at all times by a responsible person of at least 16 years of age.

Fun and games at Hornby Pool Join in the fun at Hornby Pool with this special session for 8 to 16 year olds. Meet new friends or bring a group of your mates for two hours of team games, inflatables and lots and lots of fun.

Giant fun games at Regent Park FREE! A great selection of games and activities including, giant Jenga, giant Connect 4 and snakes and ladders. This is a great session for anyone who just wants to have fun. Sports, arts and museum courses for children and young people.

A-Z Activity Guide

Use your creative skills and design some fantastic funny faces. Decorate your own mask using a bundle of materials and colourful paints. This fun and exciting workshop is guaranteed to make you smile.


Goofy golf NEW and FREE! Come along and join in the goofiness! Practice putting and chipping some golf balls in to targets to win as many points as you can. Will you be crowned the goofy golf champion of the park?

Indoor mini tennis NEW! Mini tennis is a fun way for anyone aged between 4 and 7 years to learn the basic skills of tennis and has been designed to allow young players to develop at a speed that suits them. All sessions will be delivered by a professional tennis coach.

Indoor tennis NEW! Indoor tennis is a great way for anyone aged between 8 and 12 years to learn the basic skills of tennis. During this session you will learn the basic skills of the game including forehand, backhand volley and serve. You will then get chance to try your newly developed skills in an end of session competition. All sessions will be delivered by a professional tennis coach.

Learn to cycle This short course is aimed at children who cannot yet ride or still use stabilisers. Please bring a roadworthy bike which allows the seat to be lowered so that your child can get his/her feet flat on the ground and suitable clothing for being indoors.

Learn to cycle - Level 2 NEW! This new course is aimed at children who’ve recently learnt to ride a bike and want to improve their riding skills. Please bring a roadworthy bike which allows the seat to be lowered so that your child can get his/her feet flat on the ground.

Learn to swim week at Carnforth Pool This course is 5 days in length and is ideal for the non-swimmer to gain the basics of water propulsion and water confidence. This is achieved by learning the basic skills of swimming and lots of other fun activities.

Morecambe FC v Macclesfield Town (includes coaching and ground tour) NEW! Join us for a tour of the brand new Globe Arena, the home of Morecambe Football Club and take part in a coaching session on the new outdoor Astro-Turf training pitches. You will be taught by Morecambe FC’s very own fully qualified coaches. You’ll then spend the evening on the best pitchside seats to watch the match against Macclesfield Town and not miss a second of the action. If you’re a fan of the Shrimps then this is the course for you! Children are fully supervised at all times including during the match.

Multisports NEW! If you like your sports fun, fast and furious then this session is for you. Basketball, football, tennis and dodgeball are just a taste of the sporting mayhem that goes on in this session.

Personal survival Come along and experience all personal survival skills including treading water and huddle positions. Personal survival 1, 2, 3 and 4 certificates and badges are all up for grabs and are included in the price. Make sure you bring pyjamas, T-shirt and socks to participate. All participants must be competent in deep water.

Quicksticks hockey NEW! Learn some new skills and play a fun game of Quicksticks. This activity is a whole load of fun and will give you a real taste of this fast and exciting sport of hockey.

Racket sports Badminton, table tennis and short tennis are all included in this jam-packed session. After learning key skills in each of these sports, you can then try them out in a number of games where prizes will be up for grabs.

Skiing / tubing / luging - family fun NEW! This exciting NEW session is ideal for children and parents alike. Learn to ski down the dry-ski slope at Pendle Ski Club and learn how to turn, race and most importantly stop. After the skiing and a spot of lunch the fun keeps on going with a tubing and luging session. This session is lead by the club’s own expert instructors and is ideal for beginners.

Ugly bug house making NEW! This exciting new workshop gives you the opportunity to build your own bug house for insects to live. Decorate your bug house using a bundle of materials and have loads of fun with your friends.

Welly adventure trail in Happy Mount Park NEW and FREE! Join us on this adventurous walk and explore the plants and animals that live all around us. This guided walk is perfect for exploring nature at its best. Make sure you bring your wellies as you may get a bit muddy.

Wet and dry day A totally brilliant day not to be missed at Salt Ayre Sports Cente. Starting with a brief introduction about the day’s activities, it’s off to the pool for our famous fun and floats session until lunchtime. Please note lunch is not provided but you can take advantage of the excellent menu at the Fresh Ayre Cafe. After lunch it’s off to the main sports hall for an afternoon of sporting fun and mayhem. Included in this action packed afternoon will be football, dodgeball and Danish long ball.

Wildlife adventure day NEW! Join us on our wildlife adventure day at Williamson Park. The day is split into two sessions with lunch included. In the morning you will become a zoo keeper. Working with our zoo keepers at Williamson Park you will learn how to look after animals, help feed them, look after our Butterfly House and go behind the scenes of what we do at Williamson Park. There will also be the opportunity to handle some of our mini beasts such as our snakes. After lunch you will be taken out into the park’s woodland to track down creepy crawlies using our special bug hunting equipment, learn more about the creatures that live in the undergrowth before designing your own bug hunting t-shirt.
