Also new this holiday is a whole week of fun with Salt Ayre Sports Mania. This five day programme offers a selection of fun games and sports every day at Salt Ayre Sports Centre. Places are strictly limited and they’re bound to go fast, so make sure you book early to secure your place. Please note that each workshop has different requirements e.g. age, specific clothing, venues vary and transport is sometimes provided. Please see each workshop individually. Please also note that due to some workshops being outdoors they are weather dependant and can be cancelled on the day. If you are concerned on the day if a particular activity is running or not, please contact Salt Ayre Sports Centre for confirmation.

Activities for under 8 year olds Throughout our brochure you will find an increased number of workshops for 4 to 7 year olds. PLEASE NOTE: A responsible adult must stay on site during any workshop for children under 8 years old. Parents are expected to take part with their child in some workshops. Booking Information Bookings can be taken in three ways: • In person (from Monday 3 October) • By post (from Monday 3 October) • By phone (from Monday 3 October)
Please note that all activities that are provided at Heysham and Carnforth swimming pools and at Lancaster museums must be booked directly with them during their normal opening hours. 1. To book and pay in person Bookings with cash and card payments can be made in person by visiting Salt Ayre Sports Centre between 8am and 9pm Monday to Friday, or between 8am and 6pm Saturday and Sunday. Be sure to have a fully completed booking form for each applicant and your payment.
2. To book and pay by postal application (no cash, cheques only) 1. Cheques are the only means of payment when applying by post. 2. Firstly, fully complete a booking form (you will find two forms at the centre pages of this booklet). Use only one form per person. 3. Calculate the cost of the activities booked. 4. Across your cheque, write in words “An amount not to exceed £...” 5. Make the cheque payable to Lancaster City Council and sign the cheque. We will write in the final amount and send you your receipt. 6. Make sure you have signed and dated the declaration.

Additional Information Activity information - We strongly advise that all participants wear suitable clothing for the activity that they are due to take part in. Information about suitable clothing or requirements for each session can be found in pages 10 to 16. Disabled access - Where possible, we use premises which are fully accessible. Passport to Leisure holders - If your child has or is included on a Passport to Leisure card, they are entitled to £1 discount per activity. A-Z - Activity Guide Aerial extreme – adventure ropes course and safari park NEW! Experience the exciting and exhilarating high adrenaline adventure ropes course with a new state of the art safety system. Please note that children MUST be over 1.1m in height to take part in this activity. After the ropes course it’s back on the bus to visit the safari park and see lots of animals in their open environment. This is as close to seeing animals in the wild as you will get!
Aerial runway / king swing Fly through the trees on special aerial runways that run high above woodland and a lake. Have you got what it takes to make it to the end of the course? After a quick lunch on firm land, you’ll learn to swing through the trees like Tarzan with our king swing at an awesome height and speed. The session will be run by the YMCA Lakeside Centre’s qualified and experienced instructors.
Archery If you fancy becoming the next Robin Hood, why not come along and try your hand at archery? We will teach you all the skills needed to hit the board every time. You will take part in team games, individual games, scoring games and balloon popping. This course is ideal for beginners.
Arts and crafts Show your creative side with activities ranging from painting, face painting, colouring and lots of amazing things to make. We supply all the materials - you provide the imagination.
Badge swim sessions NEW! This is a great opportunity to test your swimming and get rewarded for your effort. You can swim up to 5,000 metres in this session. How far will you get? Badge and certificate included in the price. Takes place in Carnforth and Heysham swimming pools.
Ball games Come and bring all the family to our fun and exciting ball games session in Heysham Pool. Have a go at playing volleyball, water polo, basketball and lots more. All games take place in shallow water.
Bat walk NEW! Join us for this fascinating walk and discover the mysterious world of the bat. Learn how they live with our expert guide and discover the bats at their best.
Be a zoo keeper Have you got what it takes to become a zoo keeper for the day? Working with our zoo keepers at Williamson Park you will learn how to look after animals, help feed them and get the Butterfly House ready for opening. Are you brave enough to handle some of our mini-beasts? This will be a great morning for anyone interested in animals. 6
Did you know? All of our holiday activities are run by trained professionals who are experts at working with young people. Whatever you get up to this half-term, rest assured that you will be in safe hands! Bug hunting Explore the woodlands and track down the creepy crawlies. Using our special bug hunting equipment, learn more about the creatures that live in the undergrowth and how they live.
Children’s bowls Bowls is a great sport that’s suitable for all. This session teaches you the basics of the game and lets you test your new skills in a number of fun games and activities.
Cycling skills (off-road)
Diving school NEW! Learn how to dive this October with our fully qualified swimming teacher Suzy Casey. Learn how to perform sitting, standing dives, dive through hoops and dive down to the bottom of the deep end for treasure. All participants must be able to swim in deep water.
Extreme sports – snowboarding / indoor skydiving / tubing / luging Calling all adrenaline junkies! Test your nerves with an indoor skydive at Airkix (www.airkix.com) where you’ll experience the thrill of skydiving indoors. After you've landed its time to hit the slopes at Chill Factore with a snowboarding lesson and a tubing and luging session (big rubber rings and flat luging boards). All the activities are supervised by experienced, qualified coaches and all the equipment is supplied.
Fire building Experience the thrill of building safe fires, toast marshmallows and make a delicious cup of hot chocolate.
Floats and inflatables party Have lots of fun this October at our special pool party. Bring your own floats, inflatables and toys or enjoy the ones provided at the pool and splash along to the freshest pop music. All participants must be able to swim in deep water.
Free play A variety of games and activities including giant jenga, giant connect 4, snakes and ladders. This is a great session for anyone who just wants to have fun.

A-Z Activity Guide
Let’s explore the rough stuff! This cycling course will be all off-road and you can practice your skills away from the tarmac. It is open to children of all abilities and is always a lot of fun.
Ice Skating and Kyran Bracken’s Ice Party show NEW! Find out what ‘Dancing on Ice’ really is like! After a morning coaching session, it’s time to practice your new skills until lunch. Finish the day by watching the amazing Kyran Bracken’s Ice Party show. A great day out for all ice-skating fans.
Indoor climbing wall NEW! Come and try the indoor climbing wall at the newly built Lancaster University Sports Centre. This session is suitable for both beginners and advanced climbers. You will receive expert tuition on how to overcome the slabs, the vertical and overhanging walls. Please note you MUST wear laced up trainers to take part in this activity.
Indoor mini tennis NEW! Mini tennis is a fun way for anyone aged between 4 and 12 years to get a feel for the adult game. It’s been designed to allow young players to develop at a speed that suits them. All sessions will be delivered by a professional tennis coach.
Junior wildlife detectives Discover the insects and mini-beasts of Williamson Park and explore the undergrowth to reveal the habitats in which creatures live. What lurks in the woodland? What creatures only come out at night? Find the answers to these questions and more on this fascinating wildlife detective session.
Karate Karate training consists of punching, kicking and blocking techniques perfected over centuries for self defence and physical development. Join us for a typical karate training session involving warm up, basic combinations, partner work, practice of form (kata) and physical exercises such as stretching. A great introduction to this ancient martial art.
Learn to cycle This short course is aimed at children who cannot yet ride or still use stabilisers. Please bring a roadworthy bike which allows the seat to be lowered so that your child can get his/her feet flat on the ground and suitable clothing for being outdoors.
Learn to cycle improvers NEW! This new course is aimed at those children who have recently completed a Learn to Cycle session but still need a bit of help to get cycling. Mini Olympics This session is ideal for any budding athletes of the future and would suit children aged 5 to 8. Take part in a variety of fun and exciting events to test your speed, jumping, hurdling and throwing ability. All the activities are designed for the younger children so that they will all be able to compete together.
Morecambe FC v Rotherham United (match, coaching and tour) NEW! This is an amazing opportunity to watch our local team take on Rotherham United. Join us for a tour of the Globe Arena and then receive a coaching session from Morecambe FC’s own coaches. Finish the day by watching the exciting match against Rotherham United. Children are fully supervised at all times including during the match. 8

Nature trail Join us on this adventurous nature trail and explore the plants and animals that live all around us. This guided walk is perfect for exploring nature at its best.
Rounders This great game is fun for all the family. Learn some basic skills and then take part in a giant game of rounders, not to be missed.
Skiing / luging Fly down the slopes on this exciting visit to the Chill Factore in Manchester. After a morning coaching and practice session on skiing techniques, the afternoon will focus on luging. A great day out for anyone who loves winter sports.
Snowboarding / tubing After a morning coaching and practice session on snowboarding techniques, the afternoon will focus on tubing. Hold on tight as you hurtle down the real snow slopes at the Chill Factore, Manchester.
Velodrome track cycling / BMX track cycling - Manchester Test out all your cycling skills at the Manchester Velodrome; the home of British Cycling. Start the day with an exciting coaching session from British Cycling coaches then after lunch try out the brand new indoor BMX track - the only one in Britain. A perfect session for anyone who loves cycling.
