The Musical

Bugsy Malone Morecambe Warblers Amateur Operatic Society (Youth Productions) present Bugsy Malone; a slapstick musical comedy which follows the rivalry between two half-witted street gangs and a well-intentioned, one-time boxer who steps in to take control of Fat Sam’s gang and give Dandy Dan and his boys what they’ve got coming. In this production the message is one of good, clean fun and the weapons of choice are “splurge” guns, and custard pies! Friday 6 September 7:30pm & Saturday 7 September 2:30pm & 7:30pm £10 / £8 concessions.

Last Night of the Proms The Last Night of The Proms is brought to you by Wesley Methodist Church featuring The Pilling Jubilee Silver Band and Wendy Sharrock (Soprano). For Those About To Rock 2013 - Livewire the AC/DC show + The ZZ Tops Get ready for a seismic event: The unique six man tribute to rock’s greatest band AC/DC, complete with trademark cannons, a wall of Marshalls and two hours of high voltage rock and roll. The rhythm section keeps it all meticulously together giving Ashgus the freedom to mesmerise the audience with his sublime playing. The band aim to put you slap bang in the middle of the show with hit after hit, and for the aficionados there’s always something special as well: “Back in Black”, “Rosie”, “Highway to Hell”, the songs go on and on until the cannons fire ceremoniously to bring the evening to a superb crescendo. If by this time you are still standing....we salute you!” Plus The ZZ Tops

Derek Acorah – The Eternal Spirits Tour A new tour for 2013 starring one of the most respected Spiritualist Mediums of a generation. Given the very nature of this controversial subject it is of course important to be insightful and accurate as well as to be able to communicate. However to fill theatres across the land requires not just these talents but also the ability to entertain. It requires a sensitive delivery and a warmth so often absent. Derek Acorah has all of this and more. Described by The Guardian newspaper as ‘the model of the modern medium’. If you only see one event this year, make sure it is Derek Acorah in The Eternal Spirits Tour.

Alexei Sayle Alexei Sayle was born in Liverpool on the day egg rationing came to an end. He always knew his parents were different. They ate salad. And they only read the Soviet Weekly. They also travelled to seaside towns to attend union conferences and they travelled across Europe. Alexei Sayle reads excerpts from his hilarious memoir of his confusing life as the son of communist parents. A funny and perceptive portrait of a family, a city, a country and a continent going through enormous change. Alexei will also be tempted to read unseen excerpts from the book he is currently working on, and as ever will willingly answer audience questions on his dazzling show business career.

James Taylor Quartet The James Taylor Quartet introduces their new album ‘Closer To The Moon’, bringing a new sound to their infectious trademark styling. The quartet has brought together the worlds of jazz and classical music in a brilliant and unexpected marriage. From the moment the metronome counts in at the top of ‘Tick Tock’ until the conclusion of the typically atmospheric, filmic title tune, ‘Closer To The Moon’ is a unique listening experience and a career landmark. Not to mention that it sports James’ first-ever lead vocal performance on ‘Closer To You’ and the little matter of a Beethoven piano sonata.

Magic – A Kind of Queen MAGIC, the first and still the best tribute to Queen, perform all of Queen’s greatest hits plus some you may not have heard for a while. With five vocals to back up the powerful lead vocal of the dynamic Roger Brown, Magic can recreate all the complex harmonies that are Queen’s trademark recording sound. This, along with two guitars, bass, drums and the brilliant piano and keyboard skills of Dave Chapman produce a sound that is second to none. Not attempting to emulate Queen visually, Magic creates all the excitement of a Queen live show, not to be missed.

Michael Portillo “Life: a game of two halves” It took Michael Portillo little more than 10 years to get a seat in the Commons and then rise in power and esteem to a point where he was a favoured leader of his party and possible future PM. A track record like that suggests to many a privileged friend of the rich and famous with little or no understanding or care for the ordinary citizen. But since leaving the house almost a decade ago Michael has endeared himself to many with his obvious respect for solid workmanship like our Victorian Railways and his obvious care for the underprivileged (Michael becomes a Single Mum 2003)and the troubled (Death of a school friend 2002). Listen to his extraordinary story and then feel free to question him about it. Saturday 5 October 7.30pm £15 / £13.

An Evening of Frank Sinatra featuring the Moonlight Serenade Orchestra An Evening of Sinatra with the Moonlight Serenade Orchestra UK will take you on a trip through the songbook of the Chairman of the Board himself; throwing in some swinging Count Basie numbers along the way. Step into that ‘Night in Vegas’ vibe and return to a time when entertainment really did entertain you! ‘Making us fall in love all over again was John O’Connor whose crooning, velvet tones set off some of Sinatra’s classics including ‘I’ve Got You Under My Skin’ and ‘Come Fly With Me’.
