Disabled facilities Facilities for people who have disabilities include full level access, toilet facilities for wheelchair users and hearing loops. Parking is free after 6pm. Bike The Platform is just at the end of the Lancaster and Morecambe Greenway – a shared use path that connects Morecambe to Lancaster. The venue is easily accessible from Morecambe Promenade – which you can now cycle the full length. Cycle parking is available outside.

Morecambe Comedy Club Top class comedians are lined up to perform at the Platform’s new stand-up comedy club starting in August. In partnership with Hit & Run Comedy, the new comedy club will take place on the last Thursday of every month. The events will be hosted by Ste Porter, a comedian being hailed as Liverpool’s next big talent, who will take to the stage as MC for the evening along with Carl Hutchinson and Daliso Chaponda. Thursday 30 August 8pm £8.00. 18+

Seaside Festival - BJORN AND TINY In conjunction with the Morecambe Seaside Festival the Platform will be hosting some special guests over the festival weekend. Get up close with a polar bear and a dinosaur in two amazing shows. This is innovative and interactive street theatre and extreme puppetry at its very best. Lunchtime Concert - Howard Haigh - Solo Spanish Guitar Spanish guitar player and composer Howard Haigh has performed for and been introduced to the Queen; performed at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Purcell Room, the Royal Festival Hall, and the Barbican Hall, London. He has appeared on national and international TV, radio, and toured throughout the UK and Europe to great acclaim. For his appearance at the Luchtime Concert, Howard will present a colourful and attractive programme of guitar music from, and inspired by, Spain and Latin America.

Last Night of The Proms The Last Night of The Proms is brought to you by Wesley Methodist Church featuring The Pilling Jubilee Silver Band and Wendy Sharrock (Soprano). The Pilling Jubilee Silver Band has had great success over the last few years and has won trophies in many of the contests it has entered. Accompanying the band is Wendy Sharrock, who has sung with Opera North in Leeds. Her operatic roles included “Evadne” in Troilus and Cressida, “Azucena” in Il Travatore, “Ulrica” in A Masked Ball and “Amneris” in Aida. More recently Wendy has been a regular performer with the Northern based company Heritage Opera, appearing last year in The Magic Flute, Dido and Aneaus, and The Beggar’s Opera.

The Kylie M Show The Kylie M Show recreates the magic of the pop princess Kylie Minogue, featuring Cat Edwards as Kylie, one of the UK’s most talented performers, and her amazing Showgirls. The show is a blend of style, live vocal excellence, spectacular staging and lighting and fabulous costumes mixed with high energy dance routines and audience interaction incorporating all the glitz and glamour, feathers and sequins you would expect from a Kylie show. Lunchtime Concert - Louise Jordan Louise Jordan is a young singer, composer and multiinstrumentalist rapidly making an impact on the UK acoustic music scene. She has a purity of voice which melts the toughest of hearts and a delivery which unsettles the most discerning critic. She draws from the traditional folk songs that she has performed so often and there is also a clear influence from the classical singing of her youth. Louise wrote, recorded and produced her debut album Tempvs which was released in October 2011. Wednesday 19 September 12.45pm Free.


The Blues Band The Blues Band was formed in 1979 by ex Manfred Mann group members Paul Jones and Tom McGuinness. The blues had always been their first love, indeed Manfred Mann for a short time backed Sonny Boy Williamson. Tom’s first band – The Roosters - also included a young Eric Clapton. They (Paul & Tom) called on friend Hughie Flint to play drums. Hughie had of course been the drummer with John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers during the classic Clapton era. Their next port of call was for another singer and guitarist. They approached the renowned slide guitarist Dave Kelly, who brought in Gary Fletcher on bass. Hughie retired from The Blues Band late in 1981, and Medicine Head and Family stalwart Rob Townsend joined on drums.

James Taylor Quartet This phenomenally-accomplished British Hammondled funk outfit has evolved into one of the most exciting and well respected touring bands in the UK. With numerous albums to its name, the band’s recorded output is not to be scoffed at. Touching genres as diverse as jazz, funk, soul, rock, and even rap, James Taylor - one of the great British instrumentalists of his generation - has taken his trademark howling Hammond sound to the masses for over 25 years. The band’s relentlessly entertaining tunes take inspiration from the rare-groove style funk, and boogaloo funk of the 60s and 70s. The band is, without a doubt, one of the most important jazz-pop crossover outfits in British live musical history today.

King Pleasure & The Biscuit Boys King Pleasure and the Biscuit Boys present a breathtaking mix of 1940s Kansas City jazz and blues in a truly exhilarating, swinging, non-stop live stage performance. The main man, King Pleasure, is unique. He sings, he romps, he roars, he relentlessly drives the band forward and clearly has such a ball as he does it. RalPH McTell - An English Heartbeat Tour Song writer and master of the acoustic guitar, Ralph McTell has quietly celebrated being English his entire life with songs like: ‘The Streets of London’,’ England 1914’,’ Barges’ and ‘The London Apprentice’. Later with Jools Netherland Following the runaway success of the first event “Later with...Jools Netherland” is back again with a fantastic live music night with six of the area’s prodigious bands across 3 separate stages – a nonstop mini festival featuring an eclectic mix of Indie, Classic, Punk and acoustic rock. Currently getting rave reviews and primetime Radio One airplay, ‘The Feud’ will headline with their heady brand of pulsating contemporary guitar driven rock. ‘Massive Wagons’ will add a heavy dose of classic rock whilst ‘PNUK’ will take you back to the days when punk ruled UK with their punk hit covers. The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band: EUROPEAN TOUR Roaring out of southern Indiana comes Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band playing a brand of Americana and Blues that stands alone. Headed up by the good Reverend on resonator guitar, his wife, “Washboard” Breezy Peyton and cousin Aaron “Cuz” Persinger on drums and bucket will get you stompin’, clappin’ and hootin’ like you’ve got a head full of corn liquor and the Devil himself is hot on your tail. Hailing from the hills of Brown County in southern Indiana, the band digs deep into the Mississippi Delta for its influences. Bukka White, Fred McDowell, Mississippi John Hurt and Son House are among the hallowed sounds they evoke during their incredible live shows.

Blame Sally You don’t come across many all female bands, especially one where each member is a stunning songwriter as well as a gifted multi-instrumentalist. But these are no ordinary women either – although they were all working in the music industry in San Francisco they didn’t even start to play professionally until they were in their 40s and then they were catapulted into the big time courtesy of a major six figure US record deal. Now they regularly sell-out large venues across America with their superb original music – a potent mix of Joan Jett, Annie Lennox, Fleetwood Mac, early Beatles and Lucinda Williams! Here, on their first visit to the UK, British audiences will have the chance to discover why Blame Sally is one of the classiest acts around.

Comedy Club Tonight’s stand-up comedy show features Greg Cook whose deadpan style and mastery of the spoken word led Jon Plowman, Head of BBC Comedy to describe him as ‘Les Dawson for the 21st century’. More laughs are guaranteed from Keith Carter as ‘Nige’ who has travelled throughout the world, supporting many top comics such as Ricky Gervais and Johnny Vegas and has won several awards. Karnataka - The Forbidden Dreams Tour From powerful to ethereal, breathtaking to haunting - just some of the words used to describe Karnataka who rose to the forefront of new, female fronted rock bands following the release of five critically acclaimed albums. The band’s latest release, The Gathering Light, won Best International Album at the World Web Awards. Winning plaudits from a rapturous press and media, including Radio 2’s Bob Harris, Karnataka have performed in the UK, USA and Europe alongside prestigious artists such as Robert Plant and Porcupine Tree. Karnataka’s lead vocalist Hayley Griffiths is no stranger to the limelight having previously performed as lead vocalist with the global phenomena Riverdance and Michael Flatley’s Lord Of The Dance. Hayley’s beautiful vocals have already brought her major success winning Best Classical Crossover Artist in 2010.

DARKSIDE - the pink Floyd show Pink Floyd tribute band Darkside dedicates its first visit to the Platform with the complete Dark Side of the Moon album and many other Pink Floyd classics from the early days of Syd Barrett to the later albums. Darkside will showcase the critically acclaimed 1973 album which many claim was a turning point in Floyd’s popularity. Saxophone and idiosyncratic vocals are the cornerstones of the album with scores such as Money, Great Gig in the Sky and Us and Them contributing to record worldwide album sales in excess of 40 million. I’m Telling You They’re Aliens Rob is an eccentric and wildly imaginative schoolboy, who is convinced that his new neighbours are aliens. With the aid of his friend Marsha, he heroically sets out to expose those evil, invading, extraterrestrials for what they really are. Georgie Fame in concert Georgie Fame and his sons, with their much loved blend of Jazz and Rhythm & Blues, have consistently worked in the highest musical circles. He has become an icon of the British music scene. So far there have been more than twenty albums and fourteen hit singles, including the Number 1’s: Yeh Yeh, Getaway and The Ballad of Bonnie and Clyde. Add to this a long list of collaborations with some of music’s most famous names: Muddy Waters, Gene Vincent, Bill Wyman, Eric Clapton and Van Morrison, amongst many others, and in Georgie Fame you have a bona fide musical legend! Off The Ball Football-mad comedians Bob Mills and Ian Stone stars of BBC Five Live’s Fighting Talk programme - will line up on stage alongside show host Will Buckley to sift through every goal, every transfer, every manager sacking and every training ground shooting incident. We’ll also have a local player or football personality on stage to complete the panel. Off The Ball is a panel-show format that puts the boot into the beautiful game and has a laugh about it. An Evening with Boycie John Challis takes us on a journey through his colourful life and shares with us his experiences as an actor who got lucky, becoming one of the best loved characters in Britain’s favourite TV comedy Only Fools and Horses. Friday 16 November 8pm 16+ £16.

Wilko Johnson + Special Guests Virgil & The Accelerators Wilko Johnson, guitarist and founding member of Dr. Feelgood, will be accompanied by Norman Watt-Roy (bass guitar) and Dylan Howe (drums). In 1971, Wilko first made his name when he formed Dr. Feelgood, a British pub rock band from Canvey Island, Essex. Known for their high energy live performances. Their 1976 breakthrough live album, Stupidity, reached No.1 in the official UK album chart. Promenade Concert Orchestra PRESENTS ‘MUSIC WHILE YOU WORK’ From 1940 to 1984, the BBC Home Service, Light Programme and Radio 1 and 2 regularly broadcast one of their most popular programmes entitled ‘Music While You Work’, offering musical entertainment to workers in factories, offices and homes across the land. The PCO presents a programme to represent and celebrate this amazing achievement in Light Music. Sunday 18 November 3pm £14 / £11 / child £6.

and finally...Phil Collins And Finally have firmly established themselves as the ultimate tribute to the music of Phil Collins. This eleven piece band is fronted by ‘Stars In Your Eyes’ grand finalist Pete Bultitude, who is the voice of Mr Collins. This show recreates the ‘Both Sides Tour’ of 1994 adding new songs such as… I Don’t Care Any More, Every Day, Rain Down On Me, and Both Sides Of The Story in addition to performing the classic hits In The Air Tonight, Sussudio and Easy Lover. Acker Bilk & His Paramount Jazz Band Acker Bilk’s career is one of British music’s success stories. Acker Bilk & His Paramount Jazz Band first gained worldwide fame with the hit single ‘Stranger On The Shore’ in 1962 - it stayed in the charts for 55 weeks and was the first number 1 hit in UK and USA simultaneously. Since that time Acker and his Paramount Jazz Band have firmly established themselves as one of the most successful and best loved British jazz bands of all time. Acker has received an MBE for his services to the music industry and was awarded at the BBC Jazz Awards for his unique contribution to jazz in the UK. Recent collaborations include concerts/albums with Chris Barber, Van Morrison and the late Humphrey Lyttelton.

Comedy Club The Morecambe Comedy Club is hosted by the Platform in partnership with Hit & Run Comedy. Tonight’s entertainment will be hosted by a comedian being hailed as Liverpool’s next big talent, Ste Porter. He will be joined by some of the country’s talented comedians. Dizzy Hack and the Rhino Horns An evening of big band music from this local 17 piece orchestra with featured vocalists. Expect a whirlwind tour from Dean Martin to Amy Winehouse via Funk, Soul, Latin, Pop and swing classics. The band will play two sets featuring some exclusive new arrangements, with a program that guarantees something for everyone. Watch out for some festive gems in there as well!        Sean HugHes - Life Becomes Noises  It has been over a year since his father died, and Sean is dealing with his death in a way that only Sean can. Here is a comedy performance from Sean like  you’ve never seen before, resulting in the feelgood  show of the year. This hilarious yet poignant tale is a beautiful insight into the lighter side of dying and getting older, going to places that comedy rarely goes, highlighting how ridiculous life is and how quickly it can be taken away. Henry Blofeld (Blowers) shaken not stirred His show promises name dropping in spades with Ian Fleming in Jamaica and Noel Coward, dear old ‘don’t panic, Captain Mainwaring’ actor Clive Dunn is another of his friends. Then Lawrence Olivier and Alec Guinness get a mention. But perhaps the tour de force is a story he tells about the old family doctor, Dr Bennett. It’s a guinea-a-minute and more than an hour and a half of uncomplicated fun and laughter which makes everyone feel a great deal better. By the end, the entire audience is both shaken and stirred and positively itching for more.
