You can line your kitchen caddy with paper or compostable liners. Compostable liners must display the logo shown above.

Enforcement £100 Fine Lancaster City Council has a team of enforcement officers that can take legal action if you do not use your wheeled bins and recycling boxes correctly. This could result in you being issued with a £100 fine.

Follow these easy steps to avoid a £100 fine... ■ Take your wheeled bins and recycling boxes back onto your property as soon as possible after collection. ■ Separate recyclable materials into your recycling boxes. ■ Your bin lid should be closed and no extra waste (including black bags) presented. If you have more than one grey wheeled bin and find you no longer need the additional bin, please call customer services on 01524 582491 to arrange for its removal.

What happens to your recycling... In 2009/2010 10,400 tonnes of paper, glass, cardboard, cans, plastic bottles and textiles were recycled and 8800 tonnes of garden waste was composted. The recycling wagon is split into two compartments so the paper and cardboard are always kept separate from the glass, cans and plastic bottles.

The items are then separated into individual materials by a series of manual and mechanical operations that use the latest technologies.

Your paper/cardboard and glass/ cans/plastic bottles and textiles are separately transferred to the Lancashire waste technology parks

Once sorted the recyclable material is sent to the recycling factories to be made into useful products. Design and print by Pagefast Print & Publishing | www.pagefast.co.uk

Your collected recyclable materials are delivered to Middleton waste transfer station.

Compost is made on site from the food and garden waste.
