The Marlowe Project The project consists of 12 adaptations of plays by Christopher Marlowe or connected with him. The twelve plays are: 1. The Spanish Tragedy, by Thomas Kyd 2. Arden of Feversham 3. The Jew of Malta 4. The Paris Massacre The Marlowe Trilogy, dealing with the case of Marlowe in three dramas: 5. The Plot 6. The Ghost Writer 7. The Dishonour 8. The Lost Duchess, adapted from “The White Devil” by John Webster 9. The Duchess of Amalfi, adapted from “The Duchess of Malfi” by John Webster 10. Appius and Virginia, by John Webster 11. The Bride’s Tragedy, adapted from “The Maid’s Tragedy”, by Francis Beaumont and John Fletcher 12. The Royal Cousins, adapted from “Two Noble Kinsmen” Only two (3 and 4) of these twelve plays can be safely attributed entirely to Marlowe, in the first two his hand is almost certain to at least some degree, the authorship of John Webster was always doubtful, while there are many elements in these three plays of Marlovian character, “The Maid’s Tragedy” was published in the name of Francis Beaumont (deceased since three years) and John Fletcher in 1619 (300 years ago) and is perhaps the most original in the whole Shakespeare canon for being entirely without sources, while the last, attributed to Shakespeare and Fletcher, is very Marlovian for being related to Canterbury by being Chaucerian. All these play adaptations were written in Swedish between 1998 and 2009, and it is these adaptations that have been translated by the author to English in this winter of 2018-19.
