PRESENTED BY REPUBLIC RANCHES, LLC

The Dios Rios Hunting Preserve is an incredible live water hunting and recreational paradise located along the banks of Pulliam Creek (really a river, and also known as the middle prong of the Nueces River) a few miles west/northwest of Barksdale, Texas. This high-fenced ranch offers river frontage, a spring-fed creek, two stocked fishing lakes, diverse hunting for both native wildlife and exotic game, extremely usable and fertile bottomlands, awesome trees, forever views from the mountaintop gazebo, an excellent road system and comfortable improvements.

Location

The entrance is off of County Road 24, about 3.25 miles from Barksdale, Texas. The property is about two hours and 20 minutes driving time from the San Antonio International Airport.

Water

Pulliam Creek makes up the ranch’s easterly boundary for about 1.25 miles with both deep holes and flowing rapids providing endless recreational opportunities.

Spring Creek enters the ranch on its southern perimeter and travels through the ranch for about a half-mile with the lower reaches providing year-round flows and a beautiful small lake behind a concrete dam.

There are also two constant-level stock ponds that provide exceptional fishing opportunities for kids and adults alike. These two ponds are kept full with nearby electric submersible wells, and both have fish feeders. A third small pond is being developed as well that is supplied by a solar well.

There are four operational water wells: three with electric submersibles and one solar. There is an old windmill as well.

Topography, Rangeland and Habitat

This western Hill Country ranch is mostly bottomland with one major mountain in the northwest quadrant creating 400 feet of topographical relief that provides incredible views of the Nueces River Valley and surrounding hill country.

The fertile bottomlands offer incredible trophy specimens of revered Texas native trees, including live oaks, native pecans, cedar elms, Spanish oaks and several of the most incredible mulberry trees we have ever seen. The bottomlands include several wet-weather creek drainages and elevation variations as the country transitions toward the river, adding to the diversity of the wildlife habitat.

Juniper management, with both native and exotic wildlife in mind, has been in place on the ranch for years, allowing native rangelands to establish while at the same time maintaining significant cover acting as a wildlife sanctuary.

Wildlife, Hunting and Fishing

The ranch is high fenced except for the river frontage.

The ranch is home to thriving populations of managed native white-tailed deer, turkey and varmints, plus exotics including scimitar-horned oryx, axis deer, blackbuck antelope, fallow deer, red deer, a few aoudad and feral hogs. In addition, this area of Texas is a known destination for birdwatchers!

The ranch has eight blinds (not including multiple bow stands), eight corn feeders and eight protein feeders that will convey with the sale.

The ranch participates in the Managed Land Deer Program under the conservation option allowing for a more tailored management program and extended seasons. During the 2019–2020 season, the ranch operated with approximately 70 deer tags total.

There are two adjacent soft release pens for the healthy introduction of new hoofstock to the ranch as necessary.

Improvements

The river house is a three-bedroom, two-bath home located just above Pulliam Creek on the northeast portion of the ranch. This home has a carport, deck and nearby covered outdoor kitchen/bar with a fire-pit patio.

On a bluff overlooking the river is a quaint gazebo for relaxing and enjoying the sounds of flowing water.

About a quarter mile from the river house is the hunter’s cabin. The hunter’s cabin is a three-bedroom, two-bath cabin with its own fire pit and outdoor cooking area. This cabin also has a detached cantina with a bar, television and billiard table.

High on the mountain in the northwest portion of the ranch is a gazebo and fire pit for enjoying a sundowner and watching the stars.

Operationally, back toward the south boundary, is the foreman’s home, a relatively new doublewide in good condition. In this same area are several sheds, storage structures, the shop/barn and the cleaning shed with a walk-in cooler.

Also in this area, overlooking Spring Creek, is a well-preserved, period log cabin awaiting its next purpose.

Road Infrastructure

The accessibility and usability of the ranch is greatly enhanced by an extensive and excellent road system that provides easy access to all areas of the ranch. °
