FRED ODEK — CHAIRMAN KENYA ASSOCIATION OF TOUR OPERATORS (KATO)
IT IS WITH GREAT PLEASURE THAT I PRESENT THE 2024-25 KATO ACCREDITED SAFARI OPERATORS GUIDE
Many travellers to Kenya seek a credible and fully registered safari operator. I am pleased to say that, as an organisation, KATO works to ensure that visitors to Kenya experience extremely high ethical standards by all our members – from the biggest to the smallest operator.
Kenya’s tourism sector is undergoing remarkable post-pandemic recovery and visitors once again get the opportunity to enjoy all that Kenya has to offer.
The country has further witnessed very good achievements in the conferencing segment and has managed to attract very highprofile meetings. These efforts have been further supplemented by very good progress made in opening new inbound markets.
KATO remains committed to its close collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and other key industry players – both public and private – to ensure that the country remains on a positive trajectory. We will continue playing a prominent role in marketing the country as well as providing an exemplary visitor experience.
The role of the tour operators in helping to grow visitor numbers into Kenya cannot be overstated. KATO members have over the last 45 years continued in the tradition of offering quality services to visitors and these currently account for almost 75 per cent of Kenya’s tourist arrivals.
I take this opportunity to welcome all intending visitors to Kenya and as you book your safaris to come and experience the beauty of Magical Kenya, be sure to select a reputable tour operator such as the wide selection of bonded operators listed in the KATO Accredited Safari Operators Guide.
Karibuni Kenya.
JUNE CHEPKEMEI CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, KENYA TOURISM BOARD
PARTNERSHIPS TO GROW TOURISM BUSINESS
As I invite you to the Kenya Association of Tour Operators (KATO) Safari Operator’s Guide 2024-25 Edition, I am excited to report the growth in tourism numbers showing a full recovery from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last year, the number of international visitor arrivals grew by 35.4 per cent to record 2,086.8 thousand, this was an impressive growth reaching a recovery rate of 102.5 per cent compared to 2019.
Further, initiatives such as increasing the portfolio of diverse tourism offerings through Magical Kenya Signature Experience (MKSE) programme, domestic tourism campaigns, enhanced marketing and promotions in the African markets, partnership with the airlines and other travel agencies to promote the destination have contributed to this growth.
Our strategy is to continue to position Kenya for MICE tourism by bidding for more conferences and events. This year, we expect to host about 3,000 delegates for the 14th edition of Magical Kenya Travel Expo (MKTE) set to take place between 2-4 October 2024 at the Uhuru Gardens National Monument and Museum in Nairobi.
As pointed out, partnership with the industry is pivotal and KATO has played a critical role on this front. Together with other players, I take this opportunity to salute KATO for its immense contribution to the tourism business. This Guide is one of such contributions and I invite everyone to read on and savor what the destination has to offer.
Finally, as a tourism marketing agency, we continue to welcome all prospective visitors to our beautiful country to enjoy not only the wonderfully diverse tourism products and experiences on offer but also to appreciate the warm hospitality of the Kenyan people.
Welcome to magical Kenya Karibu Nyumbani.
FRED KAIGUA — CHIEF EXECUTIVE KENYA ASSOCIATION OF TOUR OPERATORS (KATO)
AS A DESTINATION, KENYA WITNESSED TREMENDOUS VISITOR NUMBER GROWTH IN 2023 AS THE WORLD BOUNCED BACK FROM THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND TWO YEARS OF PENT-UP TOURISM DEMAND WAS FINALLY SET FREE
Iam pleased to say that Kenya remains a highly popular tourism destination with a wide variety of attraction for visitors – not just safaris to our incredible national parks and reserves but also to our coast.
Using the services of a reputable ground handler remains the most viable option for many travellers. As such, KATO continues to set and maintain high standards among its growing members. Our ever-watchful Ethics and Standards Sub-Committee continues to play a crucial role of overseeing enforcement of the Code of Conduct for members. This ensures that the positive image of the Association, and by extension its members, is upheld. Trust is a crucial element in decision making and it is that trust that KATO continues to foster.
Increasingly visitors to Kenya do so independently, yet to maximise the experience it still makes sense to engage the expertise and services of an accredited safari operator.
Aside from setting standards, KATO is also active in lobbying Government and being a key part of the tourism sector’s overall voice and go-to organisation for advice and comment.
In this updated Guide we have presented the accredited tour operators who are bonded by the Association. It is highly recommended that intending visitors to Kenya use services procured only from licensed tour operators and preferably members of a reputable trade association that offers the protection of a Code of Conduct for members.
We look forward to welcoming you to the spectacular beauty of Destination Kenya.
The Kenya Association of Tour Operators (KATO) is one of Kenya’s leading Tourism Associations, based in Nairobi and caters for the interests of the member tour operators in Kenya. Since its formation in 1978, the Association has empowered hundreds of professional operators to curate unforgettable experiences for clients seeking to immerse themselves in the wonders of Kenya. Working closely with other tourism bodies and the Kenya Tourism Board, KATO diligently promotes Kenya as a dream destination for global travellers.
Becoming a KATO member involves a journey of its own. Companies onboard as “Associate Member”, then after a year, based on their annual turnover, are allowed to graduate to one of five full-member categories (A to E). KATO also allows applications from non-tour operator entities who help to enrich the association’s
broad network. These are admitted in various special categories which include:
AFFILIATE: Targets local businesses such as tourist attractions or academic institutions.
CORPORATE: Targets supporting companies such as banks, vehicle manufacturers and hospitality providers.
APPRENTICE: A very recent category that targets start-ups eager to grow within the KATO membership.
Every KATO member adheres to a strict code of conduct, whose primary purpose is to ensure that the services provided by members, in each safari, meet the highest possible standards.
Those wishing to organise a safari within Kenya are highly encouraged to contract the services of a KATO
member as this helps to ensure they are using a legitimate, professional, and experienced tour operator. Contact details for each member can be found in the second half of this publication.
Aside from safaris KATO members offer a variety of exciting tours and activities that showcase some of Kenya’s other wonders. The coast, for example, is a haven for sun-seekers, water sports enthusiasts and those in pursuit of cultural immersion. There are also excellent opportunities for mountain climbing, birdwatching and golf elsewhere.
With KATO as your guide, any Kenyan expedition promises to be safe, reliable, and brimming with unforgettable memories. So, pack your bags, choose your KATO partner, and get ready to be captivated by Magical Kenya!
WILDLIFE WONDERS, PRISTINE COASTLINES, AND CONSERVATION
Kenya is home to some of the best national parks in the world, offering visitors a wealth of extraordinary experiences. The Masai Mara National Reserve is undoubtedly Kenya’s most famous park, home to the annual wildebeest migration – one of the world’s natural wonders.
In addition to the migration, the Masai Mara is home to the Big Five (elephant, buffalo, leopard, lion and rhino) along with dozens of other mammal species and hundreds of different types of birds, making it one of the most wildlife-abundant areas in the world. Visitors will also find a great selection of lodges and camps throughout the Masai Mara.
While the Mara might be the most famous park in the country, Nairobi National Park has a unique status as the world’s only national park within a capital city. Game drives can be done in a day, or even half a day, so it’s a very convenient way to sample the wildlife of Kenya without leaving Nairobi.
Together, these iconic parks, separated by a highway, offer a diverse and unforgettable safari experience. Tsavo East, the larger and older brother, is renowned for its iconic red elephants, a testament to the unique iron-rich soil. Visitors can capture incredible views from the Poachers Lookout, while the powerful white-water rapids of Lugard Falls offers a thrilling experience. Tsavo West, though smaller, boasts an equally impressive wildlife population, from majestic lions and cheetahs to a range of thriving birdlife. From the hidden oasis of Mzima Springs teeming with life to the visually stunning safaris through diverse terrains, Tsavo West leaves a lasting impression.
Against the backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro, Amboseli National Park is a photographer’s paradise. Renowned for its vast herds of elephants, including the iconic big tuskers, Amboseli offers unparalleled opportunities to witness these gentle giants in their natural habitat. The park’s landscape, encompassing dry plains, acacia woodlands, and swampy areas, also supports a variety of wildlife, including lion, zebra, giraffe, and cheetah.
Unlike national parks and reserves, conservancies are privately owned tracts of land, set aside by a landowner, community, or corporate body, that have a focus on conservation. There are conservancies of various sizes across Kenya. Many of them have played a successful role in helping to conserve the environment, protect endangered species and create sustainable tourism.
For example, Ol Pejeta has been instrumental in protecting rhino. As well as being the largest black rhino sanctuary in the world, it is home to the last remaining northern white rhino. And the Laikipia Conservancy is the only place in Kenya to see chimpanzees.
In addition to helping protect the environment and care for endangered or injured
animals, many of Kenya’s conservancies are keen to welcome visitors who would like to know more about conservation. They arrange walks and game drives so that visitors can experience the work being done by the conservancy.
Kenya is also home to several marine parks and reserves at the coast. Watamu Marine National Park & Reserve has about 600 species of fish and is known for its many species of turtle and its magnificent coral reefs.
Just down the coast, Mombasa Marine National Park, located between Mtwapa Creek and Tudor Creek, is easy to reach from nearby hotels. Thanks to its location, Mombasa Marine National Park is arguably the most visited of Kenya’s marine parks and offers an ideal environment for snorkelling and diving. If you prefer not to get your feet wet, there are trips in a glass-bottomed boat.
Towards the Tanzanian border, Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park & Reserve is a popular choice for divers and home to exciting marine life including dolphins, whales, turtles and over 200 recorded fish species.
So, whether you’re looking for a classic safari experience, a chance to see some of the rarest animals on Earth, or to explore the underwater world of the Indian Ocean, Kenya has something for everyone.
Kenya’s incredible diversity of landscapes, cultures, wildlife and activities makes it a truly unparalleled destination for travellers of all interests. From the magnificent savannahs of the Masai Mara to the pristine beaches of the Indian Ocean coast, Kenya offers something for everyone.
KENYA’S SCENERY is as diverse as it is stunning. Lush tropical forests give way to vast savannahs, snow-capped mountains rise above the Great Rift Valley, and sparkling lakes dot the landscape. This incredible variety of habitats is home to a wealth of plant and animal life, making Kenya a paradise for nature lovers.
Kenya is renowned for its incredible wildlife viewing opportunities. The Big Five – elephant, lion, buffalo, rhino, and leopard – are all found in abundance in Kenya’s National Parks and Reserves. But the list doesn’t end there. From giraffe and zebra to monkeys and colourful birds, Kenya’s wildlife is a never-ending source of wonder.
Whether you’re seeking adrenaline-pumping thrills or peaceful relaxation, Kenya has something for you. Hike to the summit of Mount Kenya, the second-highest mountain in Africa. Go whitewater rafting on the Athi River or kayaking on Lake Victoria. Take a hot-air balloon ride over the Maasai Mara and witness the annual wildebeest migration, one of the greatest natural spectacles on Earth.
The Kenyan climate is ideal for golf all year round and there is a wide range of courses, many of them featuring top-class facilities. Little wonder that Kenya is one of the world’s top golfing destinations.
Kenya is a cultural melting pot, home to over 40 different ethnic groups. Each group has its own unique traditions, customs, and languages. Engage in the culture
of the Maasai people, known for their traditional warrior dress and intricate beadwork. Visit a local village and learn about the way of life, or sample the urban culture in Nairobi, Kenya’s bustling capital city.
After a day of exploring the wonders of Kenya, you can unwind and experience the country’s nightlife. Kenya’s nightlife caters to all tastes and preferences, from trendy nightclubs and bustling bars to traditional music venues and rooftop lounges with stunning views.
Activity holidays are more popular than ever, and Kenya offers the kind of challenges that are guaranteed to get the heart pumping and the adrenalin flowing. There are opportunities to reach the summit of Mount Kenya, or go paragliding in the Kerio Valley, or ride a bike through Mount Longonot National Park or climb the rocks of Hell’s Gate. Away from the vast savannah grasslands, Kenya offers amazing landscapes dotted with adventure trails, especially in the Rift Valley and Central Kenya.
No trip to Kenya would be complete without indulging in its delicious cuisine. From fresh seafood at the coast to hearty stews in the highlands, Kenya’s food is a fusion of flavours that will tantalise your taste buds. Be sure to try “nyama choma”, grilled meat that is a Kenyan staple, and wash it down with a cold Tusker beer – Kenya’s award winning malt lager.
KENYA COAST
Kenya has a pristine coastline with white sandy beaches and stretching for 1,700 km along the Indian Ocean - a paradise for those seeking sun, sea and stunning views. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing post-safari getaway or a two-week adventure, the coast region caters to all preferences.
Kenya’s second city, Mombasa, pulsates with a mix of cultures, with influences from India, Arabia, and Africa blending seamlessly. The 16th-century Portuguese Fort Jesus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stands sentinel over the harbour and offers a glimpse into the city’s history.
Mombasa’s Old Town, another UNESCO site, is a labyrinth of narrow streets lined with intricately carved doors and historic buildings. For a taste of modern luxury, head to Nyali, an upmarket residential area on the north coast connected to Mombasa Island by a bridge. Nyali boasts some of the finest hotels and resorts in the region, along with a beautiful beach popular with locals and tourists alike.
From the northern outskirts of Mombasa to the enchanting Lamu, the North Coast is the perfect destination for beach lovers and culture enthusiasts.
Kilifi County, north of Mombasa, offers a laid-back coastal experience. The town of Kilifi itself exudes tranquillity, with its emerging tourism scene and lush greenery. A traditional dhow ride on Kilifi Creek is a must-do for nature fanatics.
Further north lies Watamu, renowned for its stunning marine national park and chilled-out atmosphere.
Malindi, with its sophisticated charm and excellent beaches, attracts European tourists and locals too. This historic town welcomes visitors with open arms.
At the northernmost tip of the coast lies Lamu, a unique island town famed as one of East Africa’s best-preserved Swahili settlements. Narrow streets, too narrow for cars, are traversed by donkeys, adding to the island’s timeless
charm. Lamu’s heritage and Swahili architecture make it a must-visit for those seeking an authentic East African experience.
While shorter than the North Coast, Kenya’s South Coast packs a punch when it comes to luxurious accommodation and award-winning beaches. Diani Beach, with its powdery white sand and crystal-clear waters, is consistently ranked among the best beaches in Africa, if not the world. Surfers, sunbathers, and everyone in between flock to this idyllic stretch of coastline, which offers a range of accommodation options, from budget-friendly hostels to opulent resorts.
Whether you’re seeking cultural experiences, aquatic adventures, or simply basking in the sun on pristine beaches, Kenya’s Indian Ocean coast is not to be missed.
Kenya is a country that has long been a popular tourist destination, and for good reason. The country is home to stunning natural beauty, from the savannahs of the Masai Mara to the beaches of Mombasa. But in recent years, Kenya has also become a leader in sustainable tourism.
This is due in part to the work of like-minded organisations such as KATO and Ecotourism Kenya (EK). EK is a non-profit organisation that works to promote sustainable tourism practices in Kenya. This is achieved by providing education and training to tourism businesses, as well as by certifying businesses that meet its environmental standards.
Since 2018, KATO and EK partnered with the European Centre for Eco and Agro Tourism (ECEAT) under the EU Funded “Greentour Kenya” Programme. The main objective being to replicate tourism industry sustainability best practices into the Kenyan and wider African tourism supply chain through an integrated business led approach. The programme has been successful in raining the level of awareness about the need for sustainability in the tourism value chain.
In addition to the above, EK promotes sustainability through its eco-rating system. This system categorises businesses on a scale of gold, silver, and bronze, based on their environmental performance. Businesses that achieve a gold rating must meet strict criteria, such as using renewable energy, conserving water and reducing waste.
The eco-rating system has been very successful in encouraging businesses to adopt sustainable practices. In fact, to-date over 100 Kenyan businesses, including KATO members, have attained an eco-rating award.
But EK and its partner Associations do more than just rate tourism businesses. They also work to educate tourists about the importance of sustainable tourism. This is achieved through a variety of means, such as providing educational material to tourists and working with tour operators to offer sustainable tours.
Sustainability efforts in Kenya are paying off as the destination is attracting more and more tourists who are looking for a way to experience its beauty while minimising their environmental impact.
Here are some of the ways that Kenya is leading the way:
Using renewable energy: Many Kenyan businesses are now using solar power and other renewable energy sources to reduce their reliance on fossil fuels.
Conserving water: Kenya is a country with limited water resources, so businesses are taking steps to conserve water. This includes using low-flow fixtures and recycling water.
Reducing waste: Businesses are reducing waste by composting food scraps and recycling materials.
Supporting local communities:
Many Kenyan businesses are working with local communities to provide jobs and other benefits. This helps to ensure that tourism benefits everyone in the country.
For first-time visitors, a Kenyan safari is an unforgettable adventure. The thrill of spotting lion, elephant and giraffe in their natural habitat is unparalleled. But for those seeking an extra dose of excitement, Kenya offers a plethora of activities beyond the classic game drives.
Mountain Biking: Conquer the rugged trails of Hell’s Gate National Park, where adrenaline meets awe-inspiring landscapes. The annual 10 to 4 race, an international favourite, will test your mettle as you weave through volcanic gorges and take-in panoramic views.
Balloon Safaris: Imagine floating above the savannah as the sun rises over the Masai Mara, casting long shadows across the golden plains. That’s what you can experience on a hot-air balloon trip. These hour-long flights are a truly unforgettable way to see the wildlife and landscapes of Kenya.
Camel Safaris: For a unique and off-the-beaten-path experience, try a camel safari in the arid northern regions of Kenya. Camels are traditionally used to carry equipment and supplies, but they can also be ridden in certain areas. It’s a great way to get a different perspective on the Kenyan landscape.
Horse Riding Safaris: In some areas, such as Mount Kenya National Park, you can explore the bush on horseback. Even novice riders can enjoy this thrilling activity under the guidance of experienced guides.
Walking and Climbing Safaris: For the ultimate challenge, try a walking or climbing safari. Experienced operators can arrange treks to Mount Kenya, Mount Elgon and the Aberdares. These treks are not
for the faint hearted, but the rewards are immense – incredible views, stunning scenery, and a sense of accomplishment.
Self-Drive Safaris: If you’re feeling adventurous, why not rent a 4x4 and explore Kenya on your own terms? Self-drive safaris are a great option for experienced travellers who want the freedom to go where they want, when they want. Just be sure to do your research and plan your route carefully.
Big Game Fishing: For the ultimate adrenaline rush, head to the Kenyan coast and go big game fishing. Malindi and Watamu are popular spots for this activity, and the waters off the coast are teeming with marlin, tuna, and other trophy fish. Ernest Hemingway himself was a fan of Kenyan big game fishing, so you’re in good company!
White-Water Rafting: Plunge into the churning rapids of the Athi River, navigating through gorges and past lush rainforests. This exhilarating adventure is perfect for those seeking teamwork and camaraderie, as you paddle in unison to conquer the river’s might.
Golf: Kenya has a climate that is perfect for golf, and there are over 40 courses to choose from, ranging from mature colonial-era courses to modern championship layouts. Nairobi is home to three of the country’s best courses - Muthaiga, Windsor, and Karen - while other gems like Limuru and Sigona are located just outside the city.
Running: Kenya is a world leader in middle and long-distance running, and the town of Iten, near Eldoret, is a renowned training ground for elite athletes. Many runners come to Iten to take advantage of the high altitude and excellent training facilities.
Yoga Retreats: Find your inner peace in the heart of the Kenyan highlands. Secluded yoga retreats offer the perfect setting to reconnect with yourself and nature. Practice asanas overlooking misty mountains, meditate amid the chirping of exotic birds, and indulge in spa treatments that utilise indigenous ingredients.
There are other sports becoming increasingly popular in Kenya with opportunities for road cycling, rugby, cricket, basketball, and of course, football. The Kenyan Premier League is a major draw for local fans.
Whether you’re looking for a relaxing safari or an adrenaline-pumping adventure, Kenya is a truly unforgettable destination.
For travellers seeking an experience that goes beyond spotting wildlife, Kenya’s strong culture provides a deeper understanding of the nation’s soul. From age-old traditions to the warmth of local communities there is so much here to discover.
MAASAI AND SAMBURU:
Witness the iconic Maasai warriors and the intricate beadwork of Samburu women in their manyattas (traditional compounds). Learn about their pastoral way of life amid the landscapes teeming with wildlife.
TURKANA:
Travel to the far north and meet the Nilotic Turkana people, who continue to thrive in the arid plains. Their unique customs and resilience paint a fascinating picture of adaptation and survival.
VILLAGES:
Explore the El Molo villages on the shores of Lake Turkana, home to the nation’s smallest tribe, or pay homage to Barack Obama’s ancestral village of Alego Nyangoma Kogelo in western Kenya. In the south, delve into the mysteries of the Gede Ruins, remnants of ancient Swahili settlements.
Engage in the authentic charms of Kenyan life by staying in unspoilt villages. Learn about daily routines, participate in traditional activities, and witness the warmth of community spirit first-hand. This is a chance to truly connect with
the people and understand the essence of Kenya’s tribes.
TURKANA WEDDINGS:
For couples seeking an extraordinary wedding experience, consider a traditional Turkana ceremony. Live among villagers, participate in the rituals, and create memories that will last a lifetime. Importantly, your presence directly supports the local community.
WORKSHOPS:
Take part in guided walks through village development projects, lend a hand in farm work, trek through scenic landscapes, shop for handcrafted souvenirs in local markets,
or participate in interactive workshops

AMREF Flying Doctors is a leading name in air ambulance services within Africa. This non-profit organisation, established in 1957, operates under the umbrella of AMREF Health Africa, the largest health development NGO on the continent. AMREF Flying Doctors plays a crucial role in delivering critical medical care to patients in remote and under-served regions.
FOUNDED BY SURGEONS , The seeds of AMREF Flying Doctors were sown by three visionary surgeons – Sir Michael Wood, Archibald McIndoe and Thomas Rees. Witnessing the devastating impact of limited healthcare access in East Africa, they recognised the need for an innovative approach. With vast swathes of the region lacking adequate medical facilities and plagued by challenging terrain, a traditional ground-based approach proved insufficient. Their solution: a flying medical service that could bridge the geographical gap and deliver essential care directly to communities.
Over the past six decades, AMREF Flying Doctors has emerged as a dominant force in African aeromedical transport. Headquartered in Nairobi, the organisation operates a diverse fleet of aircraft capable of serving a wide range of needs. From short-field Pilatus PC-12s for accessing remote bush airstrips to long-range jets like Citation XLS and the Citation Sovereign C680 for international repatriation, the fleet offers unmatched flexibility. Beyond its air ambulance capabilities, AMREF Flying Doctors boasts a network of Advanced Life Support (ALS) ground ambulances and a dedicated 24/7 Operations and Emergency Control Centre (OECC) ensuring a seamless response.
The organisation’s commitment to quality is reflected in its international accreditation by the European Aeromedical Institute (EURAMI) and
their two prestigious ITIJ Air Ambulance Provider of the Year awards. Any surplus generated by AMREF Flying Doctors directly supports the humanitarian work of AMREF Health Africa, furthering its mission of achieving lasting health improvements across Africa.
Understanding the vital role of timely medical intervention, AMREF Flying Doctors offers a comprehensive Air Ambulance Scheme designed to provide affordable and high-quality evacuation services within East Africa. Individuals and organisations can access these services through various channels, including:
• Maisha Air Ambulance Cover: This subscription-based service allows for quick activation for those with a valid Maisha cover, operational across Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, and Ethiopia.
• Ad-hoc Requests (Fee-for-Service): This option caters to immediate needs, with medical evacuation flights launched upon receipt of necessary payments and documentation.
• Service Provider Agreements (SPA): Applicable to corporate entities, this allows for activation by organisations with pre-existing air ambulance service agreements with AMREF Flying Doctors, functioning outside the standard Maisha coverage area.
• Client Insurance Cover: Medical evacuation insurance providers can directly contact AMREF Flying Doctors to guarantee medical evacuation services for insured clients.
Through a combination of vision, expertise, and unwavering dedication, AMREF Flying Doctors continues to play a critical role in ensuring equitable access to healthcare across Africa.
THE LIFESAVING MISSION OF THE FLYING DOCTORS SOCIETY OF AFRICA
In the vast expanses of Kenya, access to medical care can be a journey of hours, FDSA stands as a beacon of hope. Established in 1971, this non-profit organisation is dedicated to delivering critical medical aid precisely where it is most urgently needed. From emergency medical evacuations to essential healthcare outreach, FDSA plays a pivotal role in safeguarding lives across Kenya.
At the core of FDSA’s operations lies a 24/7 emergency call centre, ensuring swift response to evacuation or medical advice requests. Working in tandem with local medical facilities and patients, the team swiftly coordinates the dispatch of aircraft to transport its members from the point of injury to medical facilities in Nairobi, offering a lifeline in times of dire need.
FDSA’s commitment goes beyond mere emergency interventions. Recognising the significance of preventive care and community education, the organisation conducts outreach programs with a special focus on addressing Obstetric Fistula. This debilitating condition disproportionately affects impoverished rural women and girls, particularly those in early marriages or communities practicing Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). Obstetric Fistula manifests as abnormal communication between the urinary bladder or rectum and the birth canal, resulting in uncontrolled leakage of urine and/or stool. Through treatment, training, and advocacy, FDSA strives to empower these marginalised communities and eradicate the scourge of FGF.
FDSA understands that a resilient healthcare system hinges on a well-trained workforce. By nurturing local talent and expertise, FDSA endeavours to create a future where emergency evacuations become less frequent, and cases of fistula are consigned to the annals of history.
