It was fitting that Max Thomas accepted a 45 years of membership certificate for Australian Native Landscapes from Landscaping Victoria Master Landscapers at Chadstone Shopping Centre, a landscape which Max was involved in developing over 35 years and a legacy he is incredibly proud of.

Having started ANL from the back of a ute in 1975, he held positions as Landscape Contractors Assocation of Victoria Vice President in 1983-84 then President from 1984-1988, while also having held the position of President of the National Landscaping body.

Max was integral in working with fellow Board members at the time to bring about change in the way landscaping was viewed within the construction sector – as a legitimate trade, with massive reform in training one of their legacies.

He actively promoted landscaping professionalism to other states, encouraging the setup of interstate Associations based on the Victorian model and was subsequently invited to judge many State Award programs. ANL themselves won many awards over the years in the Victorian competition.

Max's legacy was recognised with his life membership in 2001. In reflecting on his retirement, Max expressed heartfelt gratitude towards his colleagues, friends, and the many hands that helped bring his visions to life, and the lasting friendships that he had made across different industries throughout the years.

On behalf of all Members, LVML Board and Management wish Max an enjoyable and well-deserved retirement! Well done Max and thank you for your continued commitment to Landscaping across many decades.
