The Morning After and the Night Before One New Change speaks to five head bartenders to find out their favourite festive tipple and their go-to hangover cure… Illustrations by Raj Dhunna

Perfect Christmas Gifts for the Outdoor Enthusiast in your life. Madison — Mulled Wine Classic Jorge Franco, Madison Bar Manager will be keeping everyone warm with Madison’s range of Winter Warmers. Look out for the twist on the Mulled Wine Classic, Hot Buttered Whisky and Winter Pimms. Hangover Cure: A Sunday Roast and a signature Bloody Mary at Madison!

Wahaca — Mexpresso Martini Matt Naylor, one of Wahaca’s most experienced bartenders recommends the Mexpresso Martini, containing an espresso shot, Kahlua and Tequila, which gives you a long lasting kick. Hangover cure: Anything on their Christmas sharing menu, will make you feel human again the next day. Searcys— Taittinger Champagne Alex Pedzinski the Head Bartender at Searcys recommends a glass of Taittinger, their Champagne of the month this December. Hangover cure: Ginger ale, Alex swears by it.

Barbecoa— Ryed Mulled Wine Spencer Large, Head Bartender recommends you try their Ryed Mulled Wine, a classic mulled wine fortified with rye whiskey which lends an oaky, spiced depth. Hangover Cure: A simple, massively effective hangover cure is home made banana milkshake sweetened with honey. You just need a banana, milk, and honey to taste, but at least a teaspoon to help quickly replace sugars. Banana helps calm the stomach, while the honey builds up the depleted blood sugar levels. Milk soothes the stomach and rehydrates. Bananas are also packed with important electrolytes (magnesium and potassium), which are destroyed when drinking. Talking through first-hand experience many times, this is a genuinely good cure, adopted by many.

Bread Street Kitchen— Two Smoking Barrels Head bartender Toma recommends Two Smoking Barrels - a rum based cocktail that doesn’t fail to pull any punches. Hangover cure: Bottomless Bloody Mary’s from their Grey Goose Bloody Mary trolley, which provides guests with a bespoke or DIY Bloody Mary buffet that is wheeled to your table to help heal any night-before excesses. Available on the weekends at brunch, between 11am — 3pm.

The White Company

At the time it was quite difficult as there was either high street, which was cheaply manufactured and poor quality, or designer which was beautiful quality and design, but so expensive. I also found the sales assistants at this higher end quite snooty and unhelpful. This was the moment I decided to launch The White Company, to bridge the gap. To supply simple yet beautiful white items for the home that were fantastic quality and affordable, whilst being a company that was passionate about giving great service.

In 1994 Chrissie Rucker invested £6,000 of her savings to produce The White Company’s first collection - all in simple and classic white, naturally. Just over 20 years later and she is now in control of the UK’s fastest-growing multi-channel retailer, which has expanded globally, most recently to the US. We speak to Rucker about her Christmas pop-up at One New Change.

which sold out last Christmas in a week. They are brilliant for windowsills and I also love putting them in bedrooms too. Our exciting and new Fir and Berry Christmas Scented candles, they are really warming and cosy. ONC What is next for The White Company? CR We are very excited to be working on our expansion plan into the US market, following the successful launch of our US website.

ONC Did you ever expect for it to become as successful as it has? CR Not in my wildest dreams!

ONC What do you have planned for Christmas? CR Christmas Day always involves having lots of fun with family at home. A trip to church on Christmas Day, far too much eating and drinking, and then we all collapse in front of the Downton [Abbey] Christmas special on TV.

ONC Why do you think The White Company has become so well-loved? CR We are really obsessive about detail and it’s this that can make or break a great piece. It’s not uncommon for us to reject many samples, because we don’t think something is quite right. We are passionate about offering the best possible quality for the price. Our customers often tell us that our products really are worth it. We are not about ‘fast fashion fixes’, because we believe that timeless pieces to wear and for the home must have great longevity, both in style and quality. We really understand that life is busy, so we strive to provide simple, stylish solutions that can help save time, yet look fantastic, be used and enjoyed every day.

Words by Becky Davies

ONC Do you know what you will be wearing on Christmas day? CR I usually wear a dress with a loose waistline. ONC What are you hoping to find under the Christmas tree? CR My mother always used to say to me I just want good children, now I have four children of my own, I really understand what she meant. I always love anything that one of the children has made. ONC Who do you find it hardest to buy presents for? CR My husband Nick, because he’s just read this dreadful book on why we should throw everything away if you haven’t used it in the last six months. I think I will be trying to come up with an “experience” for him this year.

ONC How did you become involved with One New Change, and why did you decide to open a pop-up there? CR There is a strong demand for The White Company in the City, but the availability of larger premises in suitable locations, in line with our full offer is scarce. This seasonal pop up is an excellent opportunity to offer existing and new customers a taste of the brand by bringing them an edit of the most-wanted Christmas products in a new location in the popular shopping destination that is One New Change.

ONC What is your favourite day out in the City? CR Every Christmas we try and spend 24 hours in London with my children and Godchildren. It’s become an annual tradition. This usually involves a fun lunch, a trip to the theatre to see a show or ice skating at Somerset House, a visit to Winter Wonderland and lovely good old-fashioned tea at somewhere like Fortnum & Mason.

ONC What can we expect from the store? CR An amazing edit of gifts that we are so well known for. From our unrivalled fragrance selection to must-have cashmere socks, beautiful sleepwear, all absolutely perfect as presents for loved-ones and those all important treats for yourself.

ONC What was your last shopping splurge? CR My mother recently gave me one of my grandmother’s rings which I have always coveted. I’ve just had it re-set by my friend Annouska Ducas who has resized it so I can wear it along with some of her layering rings.

ONC What do you think will be one of the best sellers this Christmas? CR Our Winter Signature Candle will surely be one of our top sellers as for many its return to store signifies that Christmas is round the corner and demand is always high, but I’d also expect to see our beautiful cashmere socks doing very well, as they are so luxurious.

ONC Before you set up The White Company in 1994, what did you do? Chrissie Rucker I worked across both fashion and beauty on revered British titles: GQ, Brides, Vogue, House & Garden and lastly Harpers & Queen. It was incredibly valuable to have had five years of experience on some of the best magazines in the UK.

ONC Could you tell us the story behind you setting up The White Company? CR My boyfriend Nick (now my husband), had bought his first house and didn’t have a clue how to kit it out. I often joke it was because I was trying to show him what excellent wife material I was. I went shopping, but because I wasn’t very confident, I decided to keep it simple. I chose to buy all white: white towels and robes, white bed linen, white china and white napkins. 20

ONC

ONC The last book you read? CR Eat. Nourish. Glow. By Amelia Freer. ONC Film you watched? CR The Theory of Everything with Eddie Redmayne. ONC Show you saw? CR Dear Lupin at the Apollo with James and Jack Fox.

ONC If you could pick five personal favourites throughout The White Company ranges this winter, what would they be? CR I love our new lanterns, especially our Large Grey Vintage Lantern. I am really proud and completely hooked on our new Twenty One scent. It’s just such a fresh and happy scent. A pair of our new pale grey marl Cashmere Ballet Slippers. Our new Provence range of linen hemstitch bedding which has this wonderful vintage feel. The white faux fur bedspread, it looks and feels amazing and is a great way to make a bedroom feel instantly more cosy. And our small (3ft) Christmas trees ONC

dictated my way of life for the next seven years with rehearsals before school every day and a service at the end, and another three over the weekend. It sounds like a lot, but for a young child to commit to something with such dedication is very important, and it offered me an extraordinary grounding in music. Inspired by hearing it played every day at the Cathedral, I wasted no time in starting organ lessons at the age of eight.

ad nauseam: Widor’s Toccata (now a wedding classic) and the Toccata and Fugue in D minor by J.S.Bach. These are the two pieces that make people think ‘organ!’, which is great – they’re wonderful pieces – but there is a huge catalogue of equally good and approachable music for the organ that deserves a wider audience. Another favourite, and guilty pleasure of mine, is Saint-Saëns Symphony No 3 ‘Organ’. It features as the theme music in the film Babe!

ONC What’s your professional background then before St Paul’s? PH I took a gap year as an organ scholar at Southwell Minster. I should explain, an organ scholar is a sort of apprentice – most Cathedrals offer this role, which vitally recognises the need to train young musicians through practical opportunity. I moved to London in 2009 to undertake undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the Royal Academy of Music, which I combined with organ scholarships at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea, St Albans Cathedral and Westminster Abbey. I was appointed SubOrganist at St Paul’s in 2014.

ONC Do you have an organ at home? PH No, I’ve got to get away from it occasionally! Seriously, an organ is made as much by its space as it is it’s pipes. My living room isn’t a patch on St Paul’s Cathedral.

ONC What are your career highlights? PH One that immediately springs to mind is the opening of the new organ for the Royal Academy of Music Duke’s Hall, which had largely been funded by Elton John. He attended the launch event, at which we played together on the new instrument. That was fun! Working at Westminster Abbey and St Paul’s Cathedral sees involvement in a great number of state occasions, from celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the Coronation of HM Queen Elizabeth II to Nelson Mandela’s memorial service, and from marking the 10th anniversary of the London bombings to leading the nation’s thanks to all those involved in the Battle of Britain. This is a significant part of our work and I consider it a huge privilege.

St Paul’s Cathedral Much like Santa himself, Christmas is no holiday for Peter Holden, Sub-Organist at St Paul’s Cathedral. Luckily he spared a few hours to talk to us about his career so far, Christmas at St Paul’s and what he is hoping to find under the tree this year. Photography by Clark Franklyn Words by Becky Davies

ONC Describe your role at St Paul’s Cathedral. Peter Holden My principal duty as Sub-Organist is to accompany the Cathedral Choir in the daily services, at concerts and events of national significance. I also assist with the training of our choristers.

as I have, I like to think he has re-lived a little of his life through me – whatever the case, it’s meant I’ve received a tremendous amount of support and encouragement (and crucially without any pressure), now I have career in a field I am truly passionate about.

ONC Are you from a family of musicians? PH I’m not actually, not at all. My grandfather who I never knew was a piano tuner, so that may be how I have inherited a musical ear, but it was really my father’s infectious enthusiasm for music that’s motivated me to reach where I am today. Having not been afforded the same opportunities

ONC How did your music life start? PH I began lessons in piano and violin when I was just four, and joined the local church choir with my brother and father soon after. It was there that I first encountered the pipe organ and quickly became quite fixated on it. At six, I auditioned successfully to be a chorister at Worcester Cathedral. This 22

ONC Do you like popular music as well? PH Yes, absolutely. I’m struggling to think of a genre that I don’t enjoy. I think it’s particularly important for musicians that work in a very specific field, to know and appreciate what else is around.

ONC

ONC What’s different about St Paul’s at Christmas? What have you got planned for this year? PH There are too many highlights to list, to name a few, there’s our annual performance of Handel’s great oratorio Messiah on Dec 2, the choristers sing Benjamin Britten’s stunning Ceremony of Carols on Dec 12, we have our Cathedral Carol services on Dec 23 & 24, and finally Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve, and a number of services on the big day itself. These services are really the icing on the cake, though. ONC What do you personally have planned for Christmas? PH A quick escape on Boxing Day. I’m hoping to get to Scotland – London moves so fast, just occasionally I feel the urge to rebel, seeking a slower and more solitary place.

ONC What are the most difficult services to prepare for? PH It’s easy to hone in on the great state occasions, in the presence of the Royal Family and senior politicians, and under the watchful eyes of those across the nation tuning in on the Beeb - it is scary, believe me – who wouldn’t know if I played the wrong note in the National Anthem?! But, in reality, it depends on the music chosen for any given occasion. Our day-to-day work is in the daily round of worship, training the choristers, making music in this extraordinary space, inspiring visitors from the world over, and ultimately safeguarding our precious musical tradition. This glorious heritage we enjoy cannot be taken for granted. The cost is considerable – to give you an idea, annual maintenance of our organ costs in excess of £20k, while the boarding costs for the choristers is close to £300k annually.

ONC What do you love about the city? PH I think it’s quite incredible just how much we have on a plate here. Museums, concert halls, countless wonderful restaurants, historic architecture vs. skyscrapers, and never ending change and investment. What’s not to love? ONC Have you been onto the roof of ONC? PH Yes, certainly. It offers an amazing view of the city and it’s particularly incredible of St Paul’s. I can’t escape the workplace, I suppose, but it feels somewhat better with champagne in your hand...

ONC Do you have any fun or interesting facts about St Pauls? PH In no particular order: • Part of Harry Potter was filmed here: the ‘Divinity staircase’ is in fact our Geometric staircase. • Sir Christopher Wren’s tomb can be found tucked away in a quiet corner of the Crypt. On it, the inscription reads: ‘Si monumentum requiris, circumspice’ (‘If you are seeking his monument, look around you’). • Sir Christopher Wren once said, “I am going to dine with some men. If anyone calls say I am designing St Paul’s.”

ONC What music do your friends always ask you to play? PH As an organist, there are two pieces we are asked to play ONC

OFFICE Rebecca Pearson joined OFFICE four years ago. We catch up with the Head of Female Buying before the Christmas rush. Words by Becky Davies

ONC How does the One New Change store customer differ from other London stores? RP Our One New Change customers are going for our classic workwear styles, but also looks that work from office-to-bar. She clearly has very chic taste picking up on our classic Cecilia Ballets and On Tops Courts, she’s quite brave with her heels. Our notoriously known Parisian heel is a best seller here.

ONC Who do you find it hardest to shop for? RP My son – mainly because he constantly changes his mind all the time. I lose track of what the children’s current trends are, it seems to change weekly.

ONC What do you think will be one of the best sellers this Christmas? RP Over-knee-boots still continue to be the seasons big winners – we predict that our styles Eden, Ellie, Neve and Elemental will do brilliantly. With regards to heels, Totter is our new season super high court and new shaped styles, Tangle and Trance are looking to be party favourites.

ONC What is your favourite day out in the City? RP I love brunch. Either with my husband or friends. There is something magical in that mid-morning few hours on the weekend when you are not required in meetings and at your computer. Time with loved ones is precious – especially over food.

ONC Do you have a go-to hangover cure? RP A run will clear my head every time.

ONC What was your last shopping splurge? RP It’s yet to happen. But plan to buy a pair of the ‘bunny shoes’ from Minna Parikka and a fabulous pair of Dries Van Noten boots that we have in our Poste Mistress store. My husband doesn’t know this yet.

ONC What do you have planned for this Christmas? RP I love Christmas and the build up. Hopefully I’ll be spending some time with my family. My husband and I try to take the same time off for a change, rather than juggling the childcare so we will have a few days together with our son. Last year we went to Edinburgh for a few days between Christmas and New Year which was lovely, so we will probably try to do something similar...somewhere that an eight year old will also enjoy, whilst mummy gets some time to do a little cheeky shopping...perhaps Paris.

ONC How did your career start? Rebecca Pearson I did a design degree, but I sort of fell into buying, it suited me more. I worked my way up from a Buyers Administration Assistant through to where I am now. Passing through Etam, Shelley’s and then spending a larger part of my career at Arcadia mostly as footwear buyer for Topshop.

ONC Who is the OFFICE female customer? RP We don’t have just one customer, we appeal to so many women. However I think our core female consumer is fashion led, she wants to be modern but at the same time has an independent view on her own style. She expects quality and good design which we strive to promote in all our product and designs, from OFFICE own brand, to the external brands that we stock. We target different customers with our vast offering. Originating from London, some OFFICE styles are designed with a younger, street style customer in mind – however you will now find a very wide range of styles for all tastes.

ONC If you hadn’t have become a buyer, what do you think you would have done? RP I was always interested in fashion, at one point I dreamed of being a fashion journalist. 70

ONC

ONC The last book you read? RP Running Free by Richard Askwith. I love to run and this book is about Richard Askwicks relationship with running and how its changed through his life. ONC Film you watched? RP I last got to watch a film on a plane so nothing too serious! The Age of Adaline and Far from the Madding Crowd were my choices.

ONC Do you know what you will be wearing on Christmas day? RP We usually eat out on Christmas day (cooking not being my speciality), so I like to be fairly smart without making a fuss. My ‘go-to’ is usually a silk shirt, trousers and a good pair of heels.

ONC Show you saw? RP Do school plays count?

ONC What are you hoping to find under the Christmas tree? RP I have a couple of Annoushka stacking eternity rings that I wear all the time – there is a sapphire one that would go perfectly with my current collection. Although I think my husband will need some prompting. But I do love the little things that my son makes... every year he surprises me with some creation that I treasure.

Hobbs

No7

Senior Brand Stylist Lucy Alston, talks us through some key looks at Hobbs this festive season.

Boots No7 Advisor Megan Kemp gives us the lowdown on beauty shopping at Christmas.

ONC How did your career start? Megan Kemp I actually started my career as a No7 advisor.

ONC If there was one piece of advice you could tell people when it comes to skincare and makeup, what would that be? MK For makeup I would say always use the right shade of foundation for your skin, then add colour with bronzers and blushers. This always looks more natural. And make sure your skincare is suited to your skin type (e.g. normal/oily/dry), and use products that complement each other.

ONC What is a day in your life? MK I help new and existing customers find the right products for them. ONC How would you describe the Boots No7 customer? MK Our audience ranges from women aged 25 to women in their 80s and 90s! But their attitude to beauty is not defined by age. When women find a beauty solution that works they feel great, and when they feel great, they look great!

ONC If you could pick five personal favourite products this winter, what would they be? MK No7 Beautiful skin Hydration Mask. No7 Protect and Perfect Lip Care. New No7 Moisture Drench Lipstick in Tawny Rose. No7 Airbrush Away primer under my No7 Airbrush Away foundation, part of the Match Made foundation range. No7 match Made Powder blushers – my match is Apricot Blossom.

ONC What are your most frequently asked questions, when helping a customer in the lead up to Christmas? MK Would this product be suitable for my friend/family member? Is this for everyday wear or a special occasion? What products do you personally currently use?

ONC Who is the Hobbs ONC customer? Lucy Alston She’s an elegant and classic dresser; she’s a professional but loves to be feminine.

Go to boots.com for more details.

ONC Who do you find it hardest to buy presents for? LA My partner!

ONC What is the most requested look that people ask for when shopping in the store? LA Our customers love figure-defining tailoring and workwear.

ONC Do you have a go-to hangover cure? LA Sleep, or failing that a brisk walk. ONC What is your favourite day out in the City? LA I like being a tourist in London and enjoying my city; I love going to exhibitions.

ONC What do you think will be one of the best sellers this Christmas? LA The Gabriella faux-fur scarf and our black lace dresses – ideal for the festive season.

ONC What was your last shopping splurge? LA The beautiful Owen cape from Hobbs.

ONC If you could pick five personal favourites throughout Hobbs this winter, what would they be? LA The faux-fur Valentina coat, Tegan ankle boots, navy Francesca trilby, black kick flare Carmel trousers and the red Lara roll-neck sweater; they’re the perfect wardrobe updates this season.

ONC The last book you read? LA Style Forever by Alyson Walsh – it’s full of great style tips for real women. ONC Film you watched? LA I rarely watch films; I’m more of a TV series sort of girl.

ONC What do you have planned for Christmas? LA Spending time with my family at home and relaxing.

ONC Show you saw? LA I’ve just got into Game of Thrones, so I’m working my way through the box set. I love it!

ONC Do you know what you will be wearing on Christmas day? LA I’ll definitely be wearing the Hobbs glittery block-heel ballet pumps with jeans and a cashmere roll neck for a comfy yet festive look. ONC What are you hoping to find under the Christmas tree? LA A new handbag and hopefully a finished kitchen!

ONC

Angelica Malin

Writer and Editor-in-Chief at About Time Magazine

ONC How was your blow dry? Angelica Malin It was absolutely amazing. I think every girl loves a blow dry, just being pampered and having someone do it for you. It always looks so much better than when you do it yourself. I went for a ‘Half and Half’, which is very sleek.

AM I think lots of little foodie things is quite nice, so I’d go to M&S Simply Food to get them and maybe a little bottle of champagne, or some chocolate footballs, those are always really popular in my family; and then Oliver Bonas for a few little gifts here and there, and finally Pandora for a little charm, or two.

ONC Can you run through a typical day in your life? AM A day in my life is very varied, it involves a lot of editorial; so loads of writing and editing, and often, with my job, there’s no real method to it - so there’s lots of different things on at once, like travelling and press trips.

ONC What are you personally hoping to find under the Christmas tree? AM I have a real problem for stationary, I really love nice stationary, so I’m hoping for a nice notebook, something personalised with my initials on, that would be the dream.

ONC How did you become involved with One New Change and the Style Council? AM Land Securities approached me last year, we went out for breakfast and, when I was discussing what I did, they thought we could work together, and it kind of went from there. It was all quite natural.

ONC Who do you find it hardest to shop for? AM My boyfriend, because he has quite a distinctive sense of style, which is quite continental. He’s very particular about what he wears so for him it’s always quite difficult - but Reiss is always quite good. ONC What is your favourite day out in the City? AM Definitely Borough Market, to go there on a Saturday and get loads of nice produce; and maybe have some street food for lunch, it has a really amazing vibe to it and it’s always really buzzy.

ONC If you were to spend a whole day at One New Change what would you do? AM I am quite a foodie so I think I would do a food tour: I’d probably start with a glass of champagne at Searcys; then I really love Wahaca - so I’d go to Wahaca for brunch, or go up to Madison and have a drink up there; and then probably Pandora - because I feel like after a few glasses of champagne you can make some good jewellery decisions.

ONC What was the last book you read? AM US by David Nicholls. It’s beautiful, he also wrote One Day. It’s slightly soppy romantic, but it’s a great holiday read.

ONC What is your go to hangover cure? AM I don’t have a go to hangover cure, but I find that anything really salty helps, so when I have one, Marmite is my first port of call: egg and Marmite on toast soldiers is absolutely perfect! And then hair of the dog, a Bloody Mary is the best cure.

ONC Film you watched? AM Gemma Bovery, I only watched it because it was at The Everyman in Hampstead; and any excuse to sit on the sofa, and have wine delivered to your seat, is good enough for me to go to the cinema.

ONC What do you have planned for Christmas? AM For me Christmas is very relaxed with lots of family; we just tend to take it very easy at home in London, eat lots of nice food. But I think Christmas day itself is a really nice excuse to get ‘glammed up’ for no reason - because you don’t really go anywhere. I tend to put a little sequin dress on and go for a family lunch, which is really nice. ONC Where would you go in ONC for Stocking fillers?

ONC Latest shopping splurge/indulgence? AM It was actually this shirt (that Angelica was wearing). It wasn’t so much of a splurge - but it was on a whim, yesterday.

Kaye Holland

Stylist and Musician

ONC If you had a whole day to spend at ONC, what would you do? KH I like browsing the food market and finding a few bits for the weekend; I also love a pamper session - I haven’t been for a blow dry before, but I will definitely go back to Hershesons again; and I love lunch at Bread Street Kitchen.

that likes to go into the chaos of certain streets in London, I want to come here, do my shopping and then enjoy a nice glass of champagne at Searcys Champagne Bar. ONC What is your go to hangover cure? CK If I had that and it worked, I would be a millionaire. I think I’ve tried everything in the book, none of them work, but I think preparing yourself before is key. So eat lots of carbs and drink a pint of water between every cocktail. That tends to work, somewhat.

ONC What is your go to hangover cure? KH A Bloody Mary - and the one at Bread Street Kitchen is fantastic.

ONC What do you have planned for Christmas? CK I will be seeing my parents in Bournemouth, Dorset. We do that every year; and sit together as a family. Eat lots, drink lots, probably like most people.

ONC What do you have planned for Christmas? KH Every so often I think it is fine to ditch the family at Christmas, so if I have my way I am going to be away this year hopefully tango dancing in Buenos Aires.

ONC What will you be wearing on Christmas Day? CK The Kavanagh family are very glamorous, we always dress up for Christmas. It’s usually something red: so completely over-dressed for Christmas dinner.

ONC What will you be wearing on Christmas Day? KH Red. It has got to be red, sparkly and festive - Topshop always has fun pickings. ONC Where would you go in ONC for stocking fillers? KH I noticed today, when I was having my blow-dry, that Hershesons has some great little stocking fillers, especially their hair accessories, which would be great for my girlfriends.

ONC Where would you go in ONC for stocking fillers? CK Oliver Bonas is a great shop, it’s so great for little gimmicky gifts, little trinkets, jewellery, scarfs - a myriad of different accessories. It’s great for women, and men - so I tend to go there.

ONC What are you personally hoping to find under the tree? KH Something I wouldn’t treat myself to, and I am travelobsessed, so anything travel related.

ONC What are you personally hoping to find under the tree? CK Without sounding like an expensive wife… a really nice holiday.

ONC Can you run through a typical day in your life? CK It is different everyday. I do a myriad of different things in the creative fields. I play instruments, I write music, I also work in set dressing in TV commercials, and do personal styling. Yesterday, I was working for a company called Dressed for Success, they’re a charity that supports women in troubled situations. I go to their offices in Brick Lane and supply them with a complete outfit, so that they can go for job interviews and feel good about themselves - because these ladies quite frankly can’t afford to buy outfits. ONC How did you become involved with One New Change and the Style Council? CK One of my dear friends Lisa Vickery, who works for the BBC as a journalist and is also on the Style Council, she recommended me to ONC, and that’s why I’m here today. ONC What’s your favourite thing about One New Change? CK It has everything I need under one roof. I’m not someone

ONC Who do you find it hardest to shop for? KH My mum, because she thinks she is easy to buy for, but anything you do buy she says: “You shouldn’t have bought that,” or “I already have it”.

ONC What is your favourite day out in the City? CK It is never one place: it’s about being spontaneous and stepping outside my door with my husband and looking for an adventure. ONC What was the last book you read? CK Return To Your Natural Colours by Christine Scaman, it’s basically about colour analysis and how wearing the right colours can really help us in our day-to-day lives, and help us present ourselves in the best light we can. ONC The last film you watched? CK I watch films all the time, I’m a movie buff. The last great film I fell in love with was Interstellar; and I have to say I am a little bit obsessed with that movie - and the soundtrack. I think it’s one of the greatest sci-fi movies ever made. Controversial. ONC Show you saw? CK The last show I saw was The Never, and that was a few months ago. The Never was a very successful rather small show in the West End and the set design was unbelievable in its simplicity. It’s very hard to explain to you now, but the simplicity of the set design was something I’ve never seen before. The lighting was amazing and the premise was very dark and very thought provoking, so yeah.

ONC How was your blow dry? Kaye Holland Fantastic. I love it, I am feeling really glam and ready for Friday night.

Photography by Ben Breading, Make up by Tracey Baden

ONC How was your blow dry? Charlotte Kavanagh My blow dry today at Hershesons, by a lovely chap called Sean Paul, was wonderful. He gave me the ‘Big and Brush’, and as you can see it’s pretty big and it’s lovely and shiny, which I love because I have naturally curly hair, so I don’t normally get that.

Journalist and Curator of Haute Living

ONC What style did you go for? KH I have short hair, so it didn’t fit into the normal options, but Sean Paul went for this style, which is loosely based on the ‘Half and Half.’ ONC Can you run through a typical day in your life? KH It is varied, sometimes I might be office-bound, others I work from home. I am often on magazine shoots, out and about doing interviews; and from the travel side of my job I tend to be away for two weeks of every month. ONC How did you become involved with One New Change and the Style Council? KH A couple of years ago I was writing a lot about One New Change openings - mostly new restaurants and shops. I absolutely love the concept and love the place so when Claire Armstrong invited me to join the Style Council, I of course said yes. ONC What is your favourite thing to do at One New Change? KH That is pretty easy, I would like to say a glass of fizz at Madison.

ONC What is your favourite day out in the city? KH I love wandering around and getting lost. Spitalfields [Market] on a Sunday is always good, followed by a cocktail at Madison, so I can enjoy the view. ONC What was the last book you read? KH I’ve just come back from Savannah, Georgia where I read Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, which is a true crime thriller - a fantastic read. ONC Film you watched? KH Selma - a moving story. ONC Latest shopping splurge/indulgence? KH I’ve recently returned from New York, where I always love a good shopping spree.
