Waller Creek Conservancy
Waller Creek Conservancy Waller Creek has been a source of major flooding for the city of Austin, Texas since its founding. The city is installing a stormwater tunnel that will significantly reduce flooding and improve the Creek’s water quality. In addition to this new tunnel, Austin decided to revamp Waller Creek through the Waller Creek Conservancy Design Competition. This design will re-shape Waterloo Park, enhancing the city’s ecology, water quality, and create a new place for the public to enjoy music outdoors. The goal of the project was to restore the creek’s ecology, as well as give it a new image that will attract visitors.

Waller Creek Conservancy
This design was influenced by Austin’s musical culture. The terraced river banks were derived by overlaying the sound wave footprints of songs from a variety of music genres. The new Creek bank design will make it easier to control storm runoff. The new path system around the park showcases the unique topography. This plan will ensure increased use of the park and provide enhanced opportunities for music festivals.

Waller Creek Conservancy Re-structuring the Creek side with Gabions will decrease erosion, as well as, allowing the removal of certain concrete and impermeable surfaces. By being closer to the water, visitors can better experience the riparian flora and fauna.

Waller Creek Conservancy ▪Tree of Heaven- Ailanthus altissima Will sprout in sidewalks, parking lots, streets and alleys. It will grow rapidly and produce toxins that prevents other plants from becoming established. ▪Heavenly Bamboo- Nandina domesticai Will be located on forest edges and under forest canopies. This plant will spread via seeds and root sprouts. ▪English Ivy- Hedera helix On the ground it will spread and create a dense monoculture that will outcompete native species. It will also climb up trees and cause branch dieback. ▪Giant Reed- Arundo donax Will spread along riversides and stream channels taking over the habitat of native plants. It also hinders flood control efforts. ▪Johnson Grass- Sorghum halepense Can be found in fields, roadsides and ditch banks. When Johnson grass is stressed it produces toxic amounts of hydrocyanic acid which can be poisonous to animals when eaten. ▪Chinese Privet- Ligustrum villosum Is an aggressive plant that will form dense thickets in bottom-land forests.
▪Elephant Ears- Colocasia antiquorum Will colonize stream and lake banks altering the habitat and outcompeting native species.
Waller Creek Conservancy To restore the riparian ecological zone, all invasive plants will be removed and replaced with native and non-invasive plant species.
▪Crape Myrtle- Lagerstroemia
▪Bald Cypress- Taxodium distichum
▪Montazuma Cypress- Taxodium mucronatum
▪Live Oak- Quercus virginiana
▪Texas Ash- Fraxinus texensis
Equinox Brewery Bike Park
Equinox Brewery Bike Park Equinox Brewery is one of Fort Collins’ local breweries that are setting a precedent for sustainable brewing. It is from this key ideal that the owner decided to replace most of his car parking spaces with bike racks. The concept for this design was inspired by beer kegs, as well as, the warm and friendly interior environment of the brewery. SketchUp 2015 + Photoshop + Twilight

Sky Mark Apartments
Sky Mark Apartments The Sky Mark Apartments is a new multi-family site that is located on the county line between Denver and unincorporated Arapahoe County. Since the project was divided by two counties there were two city codes to consider during the design phase, which added some difficulty.

Sky Mark Apartments Plant selection and placement was an important part of the project. I had to consider the location of flowering plants in relation to heavy traffic areas. As well as selecting plants that would stand up to winter conditions, road salts, and snow removal.

Colorado State University Google Earth Model
Colorado State University Google Earth Model I was selected for an internship at Colorado State University funded by The Morgan Library. The project generated a Google Earth Model allowing incoming students to virtually tour the campus. I was in charge of modeling seven buildings on campus. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7.
SketchUp 2015
SketchUp 2015
The Lake Street Parking Garage The University House on Remington The Glover Building The Environmental Health Building The Pathology Building The University Greenhouses The Plant Sciences Building
Colorado State University Google Earth Model For each model, I generated a specific building footprint from aerial photography. Using the Photomatch tool in SketchUp, I was able to scale each building within approximately two feet of its actual height. After I generated the models, the actual building photo textures were applied. The plant material was removed using Photoshop.
