“Plant Based” is a restaurant adjacent to O Street in Lincoln, Nebraska. Our main concept for this restaurant was to grow and produce all the plants used in the meals inside the building. To create an ideal indoor growing environment, purple grow lights not only provided light for the plants but also created a unique atmosphere. Through this design experience, it is apparent that when designing, it’s important to think outside the box and push the limits to create a great design that considers all aspects of the architecture.
To understand the definition of libraries in today’s context, we need to recognize that the purpose of libraries has evolved. Although technology has made resources more accessible, specialized libraries have emerged to cater to specific needs. For example, this library focuses on the arts, including drawing, painting, pottery, baking, and more. The primary focus of this design is to create an inspiring environment for artists to work on their future projects by optimizing lighting and views. Overall, this semester project taught the importance of thorough research to provide users with what they need to succeed. Library of the Arts
To begin the design process, data was first collected by visiting the site and gathering information. It was discovered that the site had an elevation difference of more than ten feet, was surrounded by busy roads, had a large building to the East, and an empty lot to the West. Additionally, we conducted online research to uncover the site’s history, and it was found that this area of Lincoln was where the city was originally established. The lot and its surrounding area were initially occupied by housing. Finally, examining the patterns of sunlight, wind, topography, and codes completed the analysis.

An important design feature of the Library of the Arts is an open atrium connecting the basement floor to the second floor. This design feature serves as a connector between each level of the library while also providing a communal space for artists in the building to interact.

A-frame Apartments
Location: Steamboat Springs, CO
Professors: Zeb Lund, Emelia Avis
Partners: Aaron Gust, Lydia Kramer Spring 2023
The A-frame apartments are situated in Steamboat Springs and provide an affordable living option for locals with a view of the mountains. The housing project comprises multi-family buildings that have been adapted from a traditional single-family A-frame dwelling. The A-frame’s traditional geometry has been maintained while modernizing it by straightening one wall and adjusting the top angle.
These buildings are located in a prime location, surrounded by a ski resort, restaurants, and shopping centers. The apartment complex provides various programs to the residents to create a sense of community. These programs include an amphitheater, pizza parlor, bar, arcade, and gym.
An amphitheater is a space that community can gather for bigger events such as concerts, comedy shows, and presentations. When the space isn’t being used for large gatherings, it provides tiered seating to read or hang out with friends.
Pizza
Pizza is a cheap easy way to feed a family. It is widely liked and pairs well with the arcade and bar. It provides an alternative to waiting in line to eat at the resort and skiers are able to ski right up to the pizza parlor to enjoy a hot meal after a long day on the slopes. It also encourages visitors who come for pizza to wander throughout the building to enjoy the bar, arcade, and ice skating as well.
Bar
The bar creates a space for adults and couples to hang out and enjoy their time together. It caters both to the pizza parlor and to the arcade. Residents from other buildings or vacationers from surrounding communities can hop right on over for pizza and drinks. This will pull in outsiders into the building to create revenue streams to support the businesses there.
Arcade
Arcades are a family-friendly activity that bring people together. It fosters a fun competitive environment, creates a shared experience, builds relationships, and creates a social hub and repeat-ability between people.
Gym
Promotes physical activity and a healthy lifestyle. A gym negates the need for residents to own a gym membership, creates opportunities to connect with others, compete, encourage one another to reach fitness goals, and build community. It is also a sought after amenity and increases apart-ment marketability.
04 Alliance Recreation Center

Summer 2022-Spring 2023
The ARC is a small-town recreation center that is motivated to expand and create a place where people can build a healthy body, mind, and spirit. The current facility, which was built in 1980 and renovated in 2002, requires some maintenance and expansion. To secure the necessary funding for the project, a 17page document was created that contains data all the way from the Alliance demographics to the performance of each space in the ARC. Collaboration with the town council, the ARC, and the entire community was essential to ensure that the project met the needs of everyone. This undertaking taught valuable skills such as community engagement, map-making, photography, data collection, and infographics.

These two maps show how much different sports teams have to travel to play games in Alliance and how much Alliance teams have to travel to play at other tournaments. From the maps, it is evident that the people in Alliance have to travel a lot to play sports, which not only makes it difficult for them to participate in games but also has an adverse economic impact as more money goes out than comes in. Although Alliance has many baseball and softball fields, there aren’t enough facilities for swimming, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, or gymnastics. One possible solution to this problem is to build more sports facilities to host more tournaments.

Workout Spaces
The final stage of the project was to review all the gathered data and develop a basic program that meets the ARC’s requirements. It was crucial to add three additional gym spaces for tournaments and other activities. The weight room and fitness room were the second most frequently used spaces in the ARC. Additionally, creating a space in the ARC where child watch can occur was important as there is a shortage of childcare facilities in the Alliance community. After analyzing the data, we expanded the space with the necessary features that the community will use. Overall, this is what the ARC requires to meet the community’s needs.

Study Abroad Observation
Spain: Madrid, Leancres, Barcelona Professor: Brian Kelly Summer 2023
During a study abroad trip to Spain, there was an opportunity to immerse in the country’s rich culture, indulge in delicious food, and admire magnificent architecture and artwork. The program included a drawing and workshop course where various quick drawing techniques were learned to capture the essence of different spaces. The workshop offered a range of skills, such as ceramics, embossing, screen printing, and resin, that could help enhance designs and create physical models.
As someone who is passionate about photography, the stunning beauty of the architecture we visited was a top priority to capture. Gaudi’s architecture, in particular, left a lasting impression. His work is truly a masterpiece, starting from his earliest buildings to the most famous project, Sagrada Familia.

LOW END
Location: Omaha, NE
Professor: Jeff Day
Partners: Zeinab Albusharif, Drue Bower, Ry Gaughan, Gianna Jergovic, Eden Nigelow, Fall 2023
The groups mission was to activate the pre-event space to Bemis’ LOW-END performance venue into a welcoming and comfortable area for both artists and patrons. Our team worked to elevate this space into a comfortable, easy to navigate, inviting area for patrons and artists alike. The dramatic changes in ceiling heights split the space into different programs. The design includes several additions to enhance the experience of visitors to the performance space. These features include way-finding lights, a check-in station, ample seating, and a merchandise display wall for artists. In addition to providing an area to showcase merchandise, the display wall will also act as a sound barrier to minimize the noise from the HVAC system. To maintain consistency with the existing design, archways will be incorporated to create a rhythmic flow along the linear path. It will also echo the materiality of past design solutions through plywood, the precise use of color-existing and addedpatterns such as slats and pegs. Ultimately, the aim is to create spaces where visitors feel comfortable pausing and inhabiting the space.

Nebraska Healthcare System & Expansions - GIS Map
Partner: Alexi Caines Fall 2023
Lincoln’s population growth, marked by a combination of downtown mixed-use development and continued suburban sprawl, has spurred a pressing need for expanded healthcare facilities. The city of Lincoln is currently supported by 14 urgent care centers and eight hospitals. Urgent care facilities cater to immediate health concerns, while hospitals offer more extensive services, including specialized and emergency care. Supporting the hospitals and urgent care centers are the ambulances carrying people between emergency sites and hospitals. Smaller wellness and family practice centers further add to health coverage to meet Lincoln’s needs. However, a combination of the city’s ongoing labor shortage, aging population, and increased number of people in need of after-hospital care has led to the need for increased or improved systems. The research done in creating the following maps investigated this increasing demand and what the city is doing to address the need for more hospital space.

TACK Architects Internship
During my internship with TACK Architects, I have acquired new skills while refining existing ones. These two maps represent a campground and a school currently in progress. While creating these maps, I focused on adding material layers, integrating natural elements, highlighting key features, and more.

Another project I worked on during this internship was a stair study. I referenced the IBC to gather dimensions and repositioned the stairs to best fit the new requirements. This project involved extensive use of Rhino3D for modeling and Illustrator for creating floor plans. This method of illustration allowed for clear presentations, making it easy to gather feedback from clients.
