Located in beautiful Vancouver, BC, Canada, Langara College provides University, Career, and Continuing Studies programs and courses to more than 19,000 students annually.

I am pleased to welcome you to a very special post-secondary educational institution. We are easily accessed by bus, bicycle, or car, and the imminent completion of the Canada Line on Cambie Street will soon provide swift access to our campus, either from Richmond or the Downtown core.

Providing access and equity of access to a post-secondary education are major guiding principles at Langara College.

Two facts are clear: the majority of grade twelve graduates are unable to gain access to traditional universities because of their graduating averages; and, students who have been out of school for some time need assistance to reintegrate themselves into the learning environment.

For these reasons, and because colleges provide more personalized services in addition to education delivered by teachers whose focus is teaching, and they offer smaller classes to learn in, the first choice institution for postsecondary education should be a publicly funded College like Langara College.

Arts and Science (University Transfer) Program Langara College provides the most comprehensive Arts and Science (University Transfer) Program in a college setting in BC – more than 200 first- and second-year university transfer courses give students the freedom to explore a variety of subject areas before making a seamless transition to university.

Concurrent Studies Interested in getting a head start? BC secondary students entering or currently in grade 12 who have demonstrated academic excellence may apply for admission to Langara College to take university transfer courses while attending secondary school.

Students may choose to study any Arts and Science course provided the prerequisites are met. Langara College also offers many courses that allow students to complete prerequisite requirements at the grade 11 or 12 level.

Co-operative Education Co-operative Education enables students to integrate academic studies with practical career-related work experience. We encourage all students to maximize on their learning experience and focus their education and talent by participating in Co-op.

Students may choose from more than 30 programs of study that result in an Arts and Science Diploma, Associate of Arts Degree, or Associate of Science Degree. By offering three semesters each year, students can study at their own pace and enjoy more flexibility.

ESL Studies Short Term English Proficiency (STEP) and Langara English for Academic Purposes (LEAP) are intensive English and academic skills programs designed to prepare students for University Studies. Also offered are developmental and ESL courses for students at the post-secondary level who require additional training in the fundamental skills of reading and writing.

Online Studies For flexibility and convenience, we offer a range of courses online. Students can interact with instructors and classmates while navigating through course material from anywhere in the world. Examples include courses in Business Management, Communications, Computing Science & Information Systems, English, Food Service, History, Marketing, Nutrition, Political Science, Psychology, Recreation, Sociology, and Statistics.

Guided Independent Studies Students whose work, college, or home schedules make it inconvenient for them to attend regular, on-campus classes may be able to do much of their course-work off-campus.

“I was interested in learning math, so I decided to take a university course. Upon application, I was told “you will have to go to college for two years.” A bit taken aback, I applied to Langara College.

I enjoyed my course so much that I returned the following year for a full course load. I initially thought I would stay only as long as necessary to qualify to enter university, but then I met these amazing instructors who were not only interested in their subject matter, but interested in teaching. I chose to stay and continue learning from these exceptional people rather than becoming another anonymous student in an auditorium-style classroom.

Career Programs Langara College currently offers more than 30 career programs leading to one-semester citations, one-year certificates, two-year diplomas, and four-year bachelor’s degrees. Career programs are developed with the co-operation of communitybased advisory committees.

Bachelor’s Degrees Langara College currently offers two Bachelor’s Degree Programs - the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA). The BSN equips students with a broad base of knowledge and skills necessary to provide professional nursing care in an increasingly complex health care system. The BBA provides a solid foundation of theory and practical knowledge, with specializations in the fields of accounting, business management, international business, and marketing management.

International Friendly Most of Langara College’s career programs are open to international students. Meet with an International Student Counsellor to explore options.

Most career programs have limited enrolment, providing a sense of community amongst students and instructors. The programs combine a strong academic core with state-of-theart marketplace skills that lead to careers in the arts, business, industry, and community service. Most programs offer practical experience via internships, practica, and co-operative education opportunities.

Online Studies For flexibility and convenience, we offer a range of online study options. The Nutrition & Food Service Management Program and its courses are delivered online. Many other programs have courses that are offered online.

Co-operative Education Co-operative Education enables students to integrate academic studies and practical career-related work experience.

Students alternate terms of classroom studies with terms of paid, full-time employment with a participating employer. The goals of Co-operative Education are to help students develop hands-on skills, build professional networks, and gain work experience. Many Langara College career programs offer a Cooperative Education option.

“Since I was a young girl, I considered a career in nursing. After working for several years fundraising for various health-care organizations, I became even more enticed by the relationships caregivers had with their patients. I finally decided it was time to return to school and fulfil my dream of becoming a nurse.

The Nursing Program at Langara College provides students with a huge amount of clinical practice experience which allows for the consolidation of all the theory and skills in a real-life environment.

Langara provides so many great things, including small class sizes with access to instructors with many years of nursing experience.

It is a bonus that Langara is connected to the largest tertiary hospitals in the province, including St. Paul’s Hospital, Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) and BC Women’s and Children’s Hospitals.

Each instructor I had, imparted an important piece of experience for my career puzzle, each one of them sharing personal nursing stories and work experience which helped establish a strong foundation of support and knowledge. During my final preceptorship at Langara I had the opportunity to apply for the Vancouver Coastal Health Perioperative Nursing Program. After 5 gruelling months of training I completed my Perioperative Specialty and now work full-time in the Operating Room at VGH. Overall, the Langara Nursing Program provides the knowledge and experience you need to pursue a fulfilling calling in nursing.”

Display+Design This dynamic program is for highly motivated, creative students who will learn a combination of design and problem-solving skills Starts September that encompass 3D design for retail, exhibit and special events, drafting and graphic presentation, as well as communications, advertising, marketing, and small business management.

Graduates are prepared for careers in visual presentation and merchandising in the display and special event industries.

Students may choose from three streams of study, all leading to the production of festivalquality films and gaining on-screen credits: Acting (focus on screen acting techniques, script analysis and voice work), Writing (focus on writing features, shorts and television drama), and Directing (focus on visualization techniques, directing actors, script analysis, HD camera operation and non-linear editing).

Fine Arts This is an intense study of visual arts and design, providing students with a wide set of studio skills, as well as the opportunity Starts September to specialize in one or more of the studio disciplines. The program includes 35 to 40 hours per week of studio practice plus course work in art history and English. Most course credits are transferable to fine arts programs at post-secondary institutions in BC and Canada.

Nursing Transition The Nursing Transition Program is for Licensed Practical Nurses Program (NTP) and Registered Psychiatric Nurses who want to become Registered Nurses. Upon completion of this program, students may proceed to register in Term 4 of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Nutrition & Food This accredited online program prepares students for Service Management management careers in the food service industry. Students apply basic concepts of management and supervision through a variety of food-service-based practicum and fieldwork experiences.

Starts any semester Graduates are eligible for membership in the Canadian Society Online of Nutrition Management (CSNM) and related provincial associations. All food service and nutrition courses are offered fully online and most are transferable to university dietetics programs.

Provides a general business education for students who want to focus on financial management but are not planning to pursue an accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA). This program includes a variety of business and non-business elective courses.

Provides a strong business management foundation, including the knowledge and skills to become an expert in systems analysis, programming, computer networks, software support and Internet technology. A university-transferable co-op work term is available.

Langara School of Management

The Langara School of Management offers a variety of interconnected programs with a core focus on management. Students should apply to the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program and may then choose to complete the full BBA Degree or to exit after two years with a diploma, or to earn both the BBA and a diploma. All programs offer co-operative education options. Student who have already completed an appropriate two-year diploma or 60 appropriate credits of university or university transfer courses may apply for admission into the 3rd year of the BBA.

Develop the leadership skills, competencies and values for a career in recreation. Courses address leadership, program and event development, facility operations, budgeting, human relationships, community and business development, and management.

This concentration provides the versatility to work in a variety of management careers. Graduates are able to draw upon their solid business education to tackle business opportunities and problems. Application Information All Programs

All students must possess a level of English sufficient to support studies at the college level, as well as one of the following: nn BC Grade 12 or equivalent nn successful completion of the Adult Basic Education Program nn Dean’s Admission (19+ years of age on the first day of the semester in which you wish to enrol)

Provisional Acceptance

Students currently in Grade 12 who submit an application to the Arts and Science program at Langara College, will be admitted on a provisional basis. Your admission will be confirmed as soon as we receive your final official transcript in July indicating that you have successfully completed Grade 12.

Langara College welcomes applications from Canadian citizens, permanent residents and international students.

Career and LE Programs

Application to Career and Limited Enrolment (LE) programs may require specific supplements such as letters of reference, interviews and/or portfolios. Please refer to the College website for specific program requirements.

Concurrent Studies

BC secondary students entering or currently in Grade 12 who have demonstrated academic excellence may apply for limited admission to university transfer or open career courses while attending secondary school. For more information, please contact the Registrar’s Office.

Diagnostic Tests

Diagnostic tests in English (LPI, LET), Mathematics/Statistics, Chemistry and/or Physics may be required for admission into some programs and courses. Tests should be written well before registration. Check the College website for more information.

Transfer Credit

To obtain credit for courses taken at another post-secondary institution, complete a Transfer Credit Request Form and submit it with supporting official transcripts. Apply for transfer credit at least two months before the semester begins.
