KALIASOT RIVERFRONT DEVELOPMENT URBAN DESIGN STUDIO PROJECT,

BHOPAL

An illustrative view of the proposed developments on the Kaliasot riverfront.

The identification of zones for development on the stretch with linkage and connectivity.

The Urban Healing The act of healing developed on several fundamental levels in the transformation of the site. Healing Nature - Psychological Healing - Quality of Life - Health and Pollution. The approach is to improve the connectivitiy of the region, increase the local self esteem, stimulate community participation snd belongingness, provide adequate spaces for interaction. Creation of linear parks, open spaces for commercial business, sitting spaces, revitalization of the stream to rejoice the healing process. The conversion of riverside into usable public spaces will allow the participation levels and improvement of connectivities will allow the river to gather outside attraction which in turn will allow the commercial zones developed in pocket forms. Presently the reach of local people to the river is null as there is no connectivity with river through raod networks, Enhancing more use of the back side of the built forms will generate a sense of responsibility between the people towards the riverfront. thereby psychologically it will impact the society to communicate more with the river side. physically we can try to set up social interactive spaces and provide emphasis to pedestrian spaces. strengthen the link between cycling tracks and other streetscape elements. For any urban locality to be redesign or brng to its actual meant form, the self esteem and belongingness of the local people towards it has to be rediscovered or given more value. Understanding the influence of the nature and inter-dependency, measures need to be sought, nurtured and processed for a healthy society.

The restoration and improvement of linkage and connectivity in the region to provide healing effect from the initial years to further. Then identifying of pockets and spaces that could be developed into potential public amenity zones allowing public participation and incereasing self belongingness.

The Challenge Incorporation of multi income groups in a single gated housing system is a challenge in itself, as the typology of services vary with the income group. Efficiency & Accessibility, Private space, aesthetic quality, Services and Amenities. The modern day challenge is to provide quality living spaces that satisfies and stands out perfect to the need of the society be it a higher middle income group or Economically weaker ones. The performance of the living space should talk from the very beginning as it becomes the selling point of the structure. With a multi income group residential campus there is a lot of effort that needs to be made towards the distribution of open spaces, parking, privacy, access roads and community activity spaces. Facilities that ensures maximum exposure to the open environment, provides easy reach to parking and other amenities, enough spaces that could be enjoyed within, enough no.s of visitor parking, accustoms a healthy society through community centers, health centers, play areas, and recreational spaces well enjoyed. Here, 204 units of 220 permissible units have been achieved with given city bye-laws, that is 33.3% of ground coverage (11522) of the overall site area of 34571 m2 and a permissible floor area ratio of 1.5 (51856 m2). Thereby, 30% of overall development of the site is HIG, 40 % of overall development of the site is MIG, 20 % of overall development of the site is LIG, 10 % of overall development of the site is EWS, Pre settled or Pre decided HIG Plotted and MIG units, Community center, Fitness complex, shopping center and services with a floor area of 7975 m2 and ground coverage of 3925m2. VERNACULAR ARCHITECTURE DESIGN STUDIO PROJECT I 6TH SEMESTER

KUTIYA KANDHA TRIBAL HOUSE, ODISHA, A Vernacular Architectural documentation of The Kutiya Kandha Tribal Hut of Odisha.

Architecture and Tribal Huts. Vernacular architecture study so performed here is to schematize the understanding of various materialistic functions and their importance in the overall construction of the tribal huts. it provides a basic knowledge of conventional approach made in building shelter in a well economic and natural way. Which in turn promote a lot in the local architectural techniques, at the same time it becomes a great tool in the tourism industry, thereby documenting it. KONDHS or KANDHS (Odiya) are an aboriginal tribe of india. They inhabit the tributary states of odisha and srikakulam in the vishakapatnam dsitrict of andhra pradesh. Although they are scattered throughout the odisha but their main concentration is the central region of eastern ghats. Their main house is generally comprised of a small hall, narrow bedrooms, storage areas (open and hidden) other than this it had one cowshed, one sacred space, one birds house and open area for the sacrificial ceremonies. There is no in built toilet system within the hut and its compound. Traditional carvings like human and animal figures with tribal designs were done on the wooden columns, walls, and utensils.

The Main House

The Main House is where the family resides, the mainframe of the built structure is the bamboo and wood joineries which then has added mud plaster all over. The carved columns run through all sides, followed by an inner layout of columns with an offset of 750mm that merges with the exterior wall. The wall on the front side are painted and designed with traditional paintings. The whole structure is then covered with bamboo frames and thick layers of hay.

The Kutiya Kandha Tribe tend to have set of houses meant for different activities carried out daily, inhabited by people, their cattles and birds. The Cowshed and Bird house are a great example of bamboo and thatch works. Also different joineries are used for the bird house to provide an elevated stay for the birds. Carvings on wood is a common approach on the vertical support elements. The Cowshed also comes up with an elevated look of about 300 - 500 mm high from the ground level so that the maintenance of the shed could be done easily.

A 3d top illustration of the whole Convention Center.

Conventions and Exhibitions With modern day advancements and large scale meetings for addressing a good number of people, there is a must need of spaces that could facilitate conventions of qualities, luxury, management. Be it a small level conference to address 100 people or to adress 500-1000 people, the quality of services and its delivery to the clients is one of a major task and an important one as it is one of the prior selling point of such commercial spaces. Usually what we see is such spaces come up with or next to the hotels and resorts so that businees meets can be facilitated with hotel and stay services, guest and executive suites or vice versa. But in the case of Convention and Exhibtion center at Bhopal, the building is mostly meant for conferences, exhibitions, meetings that could be hold for the government officials, delegates, and similar conventions or local public events and ceremonies. As it is seen at the 3d image that the whole site is under a heavy sloped and contoured level, the space planing and arrangements neede to be played with both vertical and horizontal ways. Thereby providing the use of levels in the built form is must and considerable. With the certain set of different types of spaces such as semi-open exhibitions, covered exhibitions, open air venues, pre-functional space for banquets, auditiorium, conference rooms and halls etc. An effort has been made to come out with the following results through the following illustrations.

Entrance Lobby, Reception and Waiting Lounge

Convention centers attract large number of conferences and meetings at different scales which allows a high amount of crowd gathering and interactions. Thus, Entrance lobbies have a stretched free space with triple height ceiling or atriums that are meant for large public movements.

The Executive Lounge and Collaboration area.

With coferences and exhibitions happening in large numbers, lounge and collaboration spaces allow delegates, officials to have a much more open, free and interactive sessions when sought for. This in turn makes the space much viable and productive for conversations to happen.

Mineirao Football Stadium, Brazil, SketchUp Work Academic Studio Assignment A stadium which demonstrates tremendous balace, structural integrity and a massive blend of colour, form, scale, shape comes up with the stadium. With new renovation works that took place for the FIFA World Cup 2014 at this stadium at Belo Horizonte, the Stadium assures a heavy and great architectural character for itself which attracts a lot of tourist attraction. To support which there is a lot of open space for public sit outs all around the stadium .

Cafeteria Academic Studio Assignment With an idea of providincg a commercial space within the urban chaos that could be fiitted within a landscaped park, allowing a space to be well enjoyed with food, leisure, nature and becomes an attractive point to hang out in the city. However the whole form emereges out from the basic oval shape, and the steel elemental columns are followed with the shape throughout followed by the fiber deck that rests on top of it.

In a strange way, architecture is really an unfinished thing, because even though the building is finished, it takes on a new life. It becomes part of a new dynamic: how people will occupy it, use it, think about it. - Daniel Libeskind
